  1. The thing is Biz I think giving Mowbray 5/10 for his signings so far isn't unreasonable. People point at Dack and say what a great signing. Yeah, dead right, he's been brilliant for us and he's probably worth 20 times what we paid for him. What about the rest of them though ? Reed - good signing, Smallwood- good signing, Downing - good signing, Chapman - good signing. Bell- in and out of the team, can't replace Williams who's really a centre back. Antonnson - not good enough. Samuel - another one who was in and out of the team before he got injured. Armstrong - blows hot and cold, another one in and out of the team. He needs to play up front with someone like Graham to get the best out of him but we don't play that formation. Palmer, Rothwell, both ,are in and out of the team, Mowbray seems not to trust them. Brereton, a mystery to me. Then you have Davenport, Gladwin, Hart. What's happening with those three ? Llast seasons marquee signing Whittingham - paid off to get him out of the door. Caddis- signed as a squad player but did he really need a two year contract ? Another one we had to pay off. When you look at it in it's entirety it's not great is it ?
  2. I agree, Bowyer or whoever was advising Bowyer did very well in the transfer market.
  3. I'd sign the lad on loan if he's available. He's go so much potential he's worth a gamble. I wouldn't be prepared to take him on permanently though.
  4. I saw something in the paper today that Lukaku is blaming his poor form on him building his upper body up.
  5. If I'd have been told in July we would be playing this season with more or less last seasons team I would have delighted with the position we are in at the moment.
  6. Wether you like it or not managers live or die by the success or otherwise of their signings. Mowbray is no exception to that rule. Having said that no manager in the history of the game has got by without cock ups, that's why eventually they all get shown the door. I would suggest successful managers get about 75% of their signings right, average managers around 50%. Below that and you could be skating on thin ice. Of course in the parallel universe that is Chicken Choker Land the normal rules don't always apply.
  7. I think results wise we're doing better than I expected. The football we're playing is roughly about what I was expecting given we're playing almost the same team as last season.
  8. I think you'll find that Rovers paid Barnsley 750,000 pounds for Steve Agnew in June 1991. Sherwood signed the following year. Agnew played 4 games for us.
  9. Err, if I were you I'd leave Jordan Slew out of this argument. Just saying.
  10. As long as the team scores goals our strikers don't have to be scoring every week. Trouble is not enough players are chipping in with goals apart from Mulgrew.
  11. I remember going to a game at Ewood one day when the weather had been just the same as yesterday. They gave it a go but it was ridiculous, there was more standing water than grass. it lasted till the 40th minute when the ref said he'd had enough. We were losing 1-0 at the time so we weren't too bothered, and no we didn't get our money back.
  12. Me, I wasn't excited, I didn't think he'd have the required mobility for the Division we were going to be playing in and that's just how it turned out. One of two other posters on here thought the same and that's before he turned out to be a flop.
  13. I agree, if our coaching staff were that smart they wouldn't have sign Whittingham last season only to have to pay him off this season.
  14. I'd prefer Joao also, he scored two more yesterday.
  15. I can only remember one headed goal in all the games he played. He was first to the ball in a crowded goalmouth and he headed the ball in from almost a crouching positin. The lad had a good leap but where the ball went after that was anybody's guess.
  16. Now you're talking, Rudy could head the ball better than most. Unfortunately quite a long career is starting to catch up with him injury wise.
  17. How many headed goals did he score ?
  18. Good pay day again for Accy when the game is re-played.
  19. That's what being a good header of the ball entails. You've got to risk getting nutted from time to time, some players can't handle that, just like some don't like being on the end of an heavy tackle. Other guys thrive on that sort of stuff. People used to tell me MGP was a good header of the ball - until the Chelsea game at Old Trafford. Lots of very tall guys are poor headers of the ball, it's not unusual.
  20. The video's proved he headed it about three times. How many flick ons did he contribute for players to run on to down the middle ? How many times did he out muscle an opposing centre half under a high ball ? He got shunted out onto the wing for a reason. Same thing happened at Big Club apparently.
  21. There's an unwritten rule in the rugby league team I support. They have a booze up immediately after the last game of the season. The pub of choice is slap bang in the middle of town near the Town Hall. Any player who hasn't scored a try in the course of the season has to strip naked, run out of the pub, do a lap of the Town Hall and run back in again. I've seen it happen several times. Normally it's on a Sunday night in September and they wait while it's almost dark. Maybe we should adopt a similar rule ?
  22. Playing 6 at the back isn't going to lead to a glut of goal scoring chances very often. But we still leak goals most weeks. When did Evans last score a goal ? Anybody know ?
  23. I think that's pretty obvious seeing Big Ben never gets a chance there. I'm waiting for the headline when he does get a goal - ' Big Ben Strikes ' or better still ' Big Ben Strikes Three Times ' !
  24. That's just my opinion, if he signs we'll see. My memory of him is him being consistently out jumped by centre halves. I don't think I'm the only person who mentioned this last time he was with us.
