  1. When we play the new kid on the block up front with Armstrong and with Dack just in behind the grafting teams will be dominating us in midfield be cause of sheer weight of numbers. 5 grafters will always dominate 3. I'd love us go back to having three up front but that's not how football is played now. There's a reason for that.
  2. Not really, Onuha's been a good pro but time is not on his side. Ireland could be the new Danny Murphy. Kirchhoff I don't know much about ?
  3. So when we sign him you'd expect him to play at centre forward for us then ?
  4. We're not buying a picture to hang on the wall here. We're looking to strengthen the team with a view to staying in this division and possibly even vying for a play off position. Watching the video this lad likes to play out wide yet he's not a winger. He very rarely appears in a central position so he's not a centre forward. In that video I don't recall seeing him win challenged headers or even scoring a headed goal. What does he bring to the party that Armstrong doesn't ? The way we're set up to play I can't see us fitting both of Armstrong and this lad in the same team, anymore than I can see Armstrong and Gallagher in the same team. Maybe his fan club can educate me as to a possible line up with him in it ? I'd be delighted if we had real money to spend but I'd expect it to be spent in a sensible fashion and not a speculative gamble. We've got enough experience in the team, if we have got some money we want the sort of up and coming players that are emerging in this division. The Lenehans and Dacks of other teams.
  5. I agree regarding the back 4 , we're a bit thin on the ground if we get injuries. I like it when no one is guaranteed a place, makes 'em realise if they don't perform then there's other lads who will.
  6. I don't know anything about Baldock but I would have signed any of those other players in that list before I would be signing Brereton.
  7. I think that's fair enough regarding transfer issues. The local press needs to work in the best interests of the club and not sabotage our efforts.
  8. The deal was being done behind the kid's back as far as I can see. That's not how things work in today's football. It just doesn't hang right for me. The last thing we want is another Barry Ferguson scenario were the lad gets here under a bit of pressure and suddenly doesn't really fancy it.
  9. That's my thinking also. It'd took us a while to get to where we are now. It'd be disasterous for us to return to the days of selling our best players. I'd like a reliable centre half who can push our regular pair really hard. A genuine top class ( at this level ) central midfield player who can direct traffic in the middle of the pitch ( this is where we need to splash the cash ) and a reliable target man who has some presence. We're all getting giddy with Armstrong doing well up front. We were playing away in the last two games. Teams play a higher line at home. Wait while you see how much room Reading give him to run into on Wednesday night. That's when you need the guys with Graham's link up skills.
  10. I was chuffed we got the three points. I expected more from Hull to be honest, I thought they'd give us a tough game. Reading between the lines they're in a similar situation to the one we were in a year or two back. Low morale, lack of direction through out the club, fans disaffected etc. They could really struggle this season if they're not careful.
  11. I haven't really the energy to go over it all again. In brief he's a young unproven player that we want to lump a huge amount ( for us ) of dosh on. He could be the next Alan Shearer, but he could be the next Kevin Davies. It's too big a gamble that we don't have to make. You're making a lot of assumptions about this deal on no evidence at all. I like Mowbray as a bloke but he's far from infallible in the transfer market. If he was he'd be managing at a much higher level than Rovers. I think the bottom line is there's something about this deal that doesn't smell right.
  12. I thought our referees might have smartened themselves up after watching their colleagues in the recent World Cup. I thought most of the refs in that were excellent. Sounds like our guys are still giving cards out for nothing.
  13. That Henderson at Rochdale scores a lot of goals considering he's playing for a very average team. I'm surprised he's still there.
  14. Oldham away last season. He did brilliantly to get in up the bye line, took it around the keeper -then hit the post from about four yards out. My mum could have scored from there. Cost us a point for sure, maybe three as it was 0-0 at the time.
  15. That's a good result to top off a very good week for the club. It sounds like we played a lot of good football but failed to take advantage. We need to get better at finding the back of the net.
  16. If he's better than them, why not ? Follow that template and we're limiting our options a lot.
  17. The history of football is littered with boy wonders who just never developed. Big clubs have splashed out for them with very mixed results. Some times you get a gem, sometimes you waste your money. We had a couple years ago with Jimmy Corbett and Simon Ireland. Did either of them ever play for our first team ? We aren't a big club anymore and we can't afford to gamble. If Venkys have broken the piggy bank two of three top class championship players would do us more good than a speculative signing. You'd think that one of those two or three would be a success.
  18. Regarding b) we've already got two in Whittingham and Gladwin.
  19. I'd always take an away draw. I think we might get one today. edit . That was before I saw the team. I don't fancy us with that line up, losing by one now.
  20. Yes but are they any better than what we've already got ? If they are they should be playing . If not why did we sign them ?
  21. Neither of Evans or Smallwood are going to be good enough often enough in this league. That's why I'm scratching my head as to current transfer policy.
  22. At the moment we'd be lucky to get our money back on Samuel.
  23. If Armstrong repeats his Bolton performances his value won't go up at all. Let's see what happens out on the grass, paper talk is meaningless.
  24. It doesn't really matter how we pay for the fee. If it's all we've got I'm not happy splurging it out on one young player.
  25. We were a different club then. If Shearer had have flopped here we would have sold him back to Southampton at a loss and Jack would have got the cheque book out for another top striker. The current team needs strengthening in several positions and we're planning to blow most if not all of our transfer budget on a young lad who doesn't really play in any of the positions that need strengthening. I watched the video and I'm thinking he isn't a Graham replacement and if this lad comes here where does Armstrong play ?
