  1. I think I heard the theory was that Bairstow bats better with the lower order.
  2. Not too bad a day for us. The Aussies will be pleased to have seen the back of Cook and Root so cheaply. We need to dig in in the morning session tomorrow. On the subject of Stokes do you think the Aussies would have left him at home ?
  3. Me too Jim, I smelt a rat as soon as I discovered their background, or more accurately, their complete lack of background.
  4. I can't see him being any more successful the either Moyes or Grayson there. They're set up to fail, just like we are.
  5. Coleman leaving Wales to take over at Sunderland apparently.
  6. From what I've seen so far Carbide will take some beating. The one with the flails is interesting though.
  7. Although I was born in Blackburn we left when I was about 5. Obviously I've been back to Blackburn hundreds of times to watch the Rovers but I'd never really been nearer to Darwen than Ewood Park. I had a small problem with my watch a few weeks ago so I looked around for a local watchmaker who was authorised to repair " Rolex ". I noticed there was a watchmaker in Darwen called " Ian Walsh " who had the necessary qualifications. I dropped my watch off in the car so I didn't hang around the town but when I had to retrieve it the car was in the garage so I went by train. I got off the train and walked down the hill through the town to the guy's shop. He's on that curve facing the " Spitfire " in the little square. What a really nice little town. I couldn't help but be impressed, especially with the " Weatherspoons " on the way down from the station. How long has that been open ? I'd phoned a watchmaker in Cheshire that quoted me £125 to do the job, " Ian Walsh " did it for £50. " Rolex " would always want to completely service the watch no matter what the problem is. Last time I had it done it was about £550 ! He'll be getting my business in future.
  8. Nobody like " Robot Wars " ? Maybe you need to be an angineer to get the bug. " Snowfall " on BBC 2 on Sunday night is good in my opinion. It's about how cocaine was introduced to L.A. back in the Reagan era. Pretty violent but it keeps you guessing.
  9. All of my contemporaries that had tattoos done years ago bitterly regret what they did now. I don't know one that is still happy with the way they look. It's the " dado rail " of fashion, but at least you can get rid of the " dado rail " when it goes out of fashion.
  10. Just seen it on the BBC news. The ref's eyes must be painted on.
  11. Cheers for that. I remember seeing Doyle and Tomlinson play for the youth team , they caught my eye as having something about them. I liked their attitude. Having a good attitude will take you a long way in all walks of life, not just football.
  12. I'll be going on Tuesday to watch the game at Rochdale. I can't wait to see some of these lads play. If it was the usual first team I'm not so sure I'd be bothering. Any of these young players seriously knocking on the door Parson ? Of course they'll find it really difficult getting in given the scintillating form of the senior players ! I like how they function as a team in spite of the chopping and changing caused by the first team call ups. It's really difficult being a reserve team manager most of the time for that reason.
  13. They probably don't know who he is or what he does but they'll know how much he's paid, you can bet on that.
  14. We need this guy more involved coaching the first team ASAP.
  15. From what little I've seen of Tomlinson I think there's a decent player there. I'd give him a game tomorrow instead of Evans if he's fully fit.
  16. Mm, it's certainly going to a lot of it over.
  17. My point is Shankly suspected that Francis would be prone to these sorts of injuries throughout his career and he was right.
  18. Players like Chapman that rely on bursts of pure pace are always liable to that sort of injury. I remember when Trevor Francis, a similarly quick wide player, signed for Forest for a British transfer record somebody asked Bill Shankly why Liverpool weren't interested in signing him. He said " Because he'll spend as much time on the treatment bench as he will playing ". He wasn't far wrong, Francis was plagued with similar injuries all his career.
  19. Boo Hoo. That's a massive blow to Rovers and the player.
  20. Let's hope we can hold onto him. His efforts won't have gone un noticed in the football world.
  21. I'd vote for that as long as I can bring my shotgun with me.
  22. There'll be a reason why no other club does it. See if you can guess what it is. April the 1st is next year now.
  23. Sorry to keep banging on about times past but we threw the 17 year old John Byrom into the old First Division team when we were struggling for goals. He came up with the goods. When you're that age you play without fear.
  24. Downing only played in the first place when Champagne Charlie was injured playing for Scotland.
