  1. It's fugly. Why do clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United get sponsors which fit in seemlessly with their shirt design? Hell, I would even like the rectangle AMD Processors or HSA sponsors back. The current one looks way out of whack. I hope it is changed next season. Anyway, I dislike the first home shirt. The red at the top looks tacky. It's hard to choose because I don't really like the funny things they are trying to do with the curvy designs these days, but number two just gets the nod. I like the red and black halves a lot, but I have to choose number one because I love the black and sky blue combination. It looks really pleasing on the eye and it may well be one of our best away shirts for me. I'm not a fan of orange, but I'm not set against it. It would be good to have it in honour of Ooijer, as someone said above. To reiterate: 2 & 1.
  2. Got an unofficial mirror up if any of those websites are congested or slow. PC and Mac downloads.
  3. I think the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in 2004/2005 has to rate up there with one of the results that I would change. It's one of two matches that season (including the Arsenal semi-final) that saw us dragged through the mud for being a dirty team. I just wonder whether things wouldn't be so bad with the media and the football world in general if we had won that day. The focus would probably have been more on how Chelsea and Mourinho were sore losers and perhaps things wouldn't be going so bad with the referees today, who are no doubt a bit more willing to not give us the benefit of the doubt. It also would have put a huge dent in the Chelsea psyche as well and it would have had possibly huge ramifications on Chelsea's future successes. Mourinho saw the victory as passing some sort of special Premiership fitness test. Now that I've written that, I'm starting to think that those who name the Arsenal match would be hitting it right on the money. The FA Cup final is one of the most famous and well-known football events in the world and, apart from the Champions League final, no other cup competition is telecast live in Australia. It is certainly given a lot of hype and analysis on the broadcast too. The instant worldwide recognition that the club would receive just by participating in the FA Cup final would be hugely beneficial to its reputation and worldwide supporter base and beneficial to the bottom line these days: in terms of finance. But I have to pick one, so it would be the Chelsea result I would change. We weren't ready for an FA Cup final that season, really, and would probably only be making up the numbers. We might not be swimming in goals at the moment, but not so long ago we looked almost completely toothless up front and very rarely looked like scoring anything.
  4. You scored 5 out of a possible 10 Average. You're a journeyman pro who needs to work hard to earn a new contract. 1, 4, 5, 9, 10.
  5. Sven Goran Eriksson interview. In it he is asked for some of his opinions on the state of football in general and some questions on his time in England. The interview takes a while to warm up, though.
  6. That Mario video was brilliant. Metal Gear Solid MGS3: Crab Battle
  7. He did a job chasing the win in the Man City game though, Blueboy. Anyway, Mokoena is a squad player who plays a bit-part role in the first eleven (unless there are a whole host of injured players) and there's nothing wrong with that. He's content to play off the bench, he is probably on cheap wages, he is an international captain, and he provides a defensive option. I'm happy enough with him if Hughes is.
  8. An email from "Jon Obi Mikel". I found the commentary on his fellow Chelsea players funny, at least.
  9. I would really like to know what the hell was going through the minds of those referees. All three of them fluffed it today.
  10. What the (Please don't use that word again)??? No contact from what I saw.

  12. Far out!!! It was a brilliant goal! Just as good as his other screamer!!! On the volley from a clearance too!!!
  13. Yet a thread appears singing his praises. http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=15376 Anyway, I pushed this topic back up in light of that thread. Firstly I would like to clear up that this topic's description was edited by a moderator/administrator. It originally read "Jose Mourinho, Is An Arrogant Prick". The edit makes it sound like I have a problem with mere arrogance, which is simply not the case. Very belated correction, I know. Secondly, it is sobering to read a recent history of Mourinho and his antics. Not just what he did to harm the reputation of Blackburn Rovers, but what he did to destroy the career of a referee and the other less-than-admirable antics that Chelsea have been getting up to post-Ranieri.
  14. Emerton had a cracking game for Australia against Ghana in London midweek. He played at right back in a 4-3-3 formation and wore the captain's armband for most of the second half after Vince Grella was injured. He had a solid game at the back but looked very good in attack. He made many driving runs with the ball at his feet out of defence, distributed his passed to the flanks wells, and nearly scored himself from the right hand side of the box, his shot forcing the goalkeeper into a very good save early in the second half. He was essential to many of Australia's attacking moves, but due to poor finishing up front and the superb performances of both of Ghana's goalkeepers, only a 1-1 draw was managed, which really didn't tell the whole story. He's on fire at the moment for both club and country, but with Bentley loathe to bring the right back into the game (it was the same with Neill), we're not really utilising him properly.
  15. Amazing what a good-looking defence was back then! These days it would go something like Emerton, Ooijer, Nelsen, and Neill. Neill is still in our best four, but Todd and McEveley are languishing in the reserves and Johansson is long gone. Sorry to bring an old topic back up (apologies to the mods especially), but considering our recent poor form in the league I thought it would be interesting to re-read a topic or two by searching "Hughes out". I think reading the old threads it goes to show just how much the availability of players of decent quality is important to a club's short-term to medium-term success, no matter the quality of the manager. It's looking like he is powerless to stop the rot at the moment, but I doubt Hughes is doing anything different to when we finished sixth. Once we get our injured players back, Sparky will surely start pulling off miracles again.
  16. Vidic (foul) and Rooney (dissent) both have yellow cards.
  17. I would only play Bentley in a central midfield role out of all of those players. Arguably none of those players are natural (attacking) centre midfielders either, and Peter and Gallagher are simply not good enough to play in that position (why would Hughes be starting Mokoena in a four-man midfield then?).
  18. My predictions: - 4-3 to the Rovers. - Blackburn End sings "Rio is a Rover!"
  19. I'll go out on a limb here () and say he might be an attacking midfielder who can also play up front. We're in short supply of that kind of midfielder, so if that is correct he might be a welcome signing (provided he is good enough).
  20. That's probably the reason why the South American and African nations do so well in the youth tournaments: more often than not their players have experienced a significant amount of street football. It hasn't translated to success in the World Cup for Africa (probably due to lack of development of the game in general), but it has paid off for Brazil and Argentina. Europe does a lot of catching up at the senior level due to the general affluence of their nations; they can wait on footballers to develop.
  21. Khizanishvili has been our weakest link in central defence this season, save for Ooijer's horrid introductory period to English football. He's looking a class act now does our Andre. As for the team I would select, I would probably gun for the following. Friedel Todd Neill Ooijer Emerton Gamst Mokoena Bentley Tugay McCarthy Nonda I am not a particular fan of 3-5-2, at least for the Rovers, but it is the only formation that I think best fits our players at the moment, considering all those injuries. I have a bit of time, so allow me to play around with a few formations and line-ups in a game I call "(very) amateur football manager". Friedel Todd Neill Ooijer Bentley Emerton Tugay Gamst McCarthy Jeffers Nonda The two central midfielders would play as box-to-box players, helping out in both defence and attack to make up for the lost defender, and I've seen Emerton play this role with Australia well. He is a player who bases his game on athleticism so I think he would do a rather good job at it as a temporary measure. I'm hardly confident that Tugay would be up for it, but he can be replaced by Mokoena when he gets tired, so obviously the roles of the central midfielders would change with one defensive-minded player and the other more attack-minded. McCarthy and Nonda would drop back a bit to more of a wing position when defending and then push forward when attacking. These are very much Guss Hiddink-inspired formations so I will revert to a couple of 4-4-2 line-ups. Friedel Emerton Todd Ooijer Neill Bentley Mokoena Tugay Gamst McCarthy Nonda Khizanishvili could very well be in place of Todd, if you like. He has been the weakest link in defence, in my opinion, but I am not confident that Todd would do a better job of it. Zura could very well replace Todd in my three-man defence line-ups as well. Similarly, I consider Peter a direct replacement for Gamst. Anyway, alternatively, if you are not a fan of Mokoena, we could try the following. Friedel Khizanishvili Todd Ooijer Neill Bentley Emerton Tugay Gamst McCarthy Nonda I think we are too weak defensively at the moment to play a 4-4-2, but that might not necessarily have much to do with the formation. We have clearly been lacking that bit of "bully" that the media were hanging us out to dry for two seasons ago. Perhaps Hughes has eased off that fight, either consciously or unconsciously, to appease the media and improve our reputation? Whatever the case, I would like to see the return of a tougher style, even if we are missing a couple of our hard nuts through injury and the "get into 'em" Savage. I am in two minds on our best 4-4-2 formation, which is why I listed two preferred line-ups. Finally, I will list a 4-5-1. I have shied away from this formation because I do not think that putting Benni up field will toughen the team up, which is what the whole point of a 4-5-1 is. I would actually prefer this formation, though, strangely enough (although not in Europe), but not the line-up. Friedel Emerton Todd Ooijer Neill Mokoena Bentley Tugay McCarthy Gamst Nonda The following could work if we have a midfielder or two push-up into more forward positions, because McCarthy, as others have already mentioned all over the message board, drops back into midfield far too much to play as a lone striker. Friedel Emerton Todd Ooijer Neill Mokoena Gallagher Bentley Tugay Gamst McCarthy I don't think Hughes is one to change his formation these days, so I expect that he will play a 4-4-2 and continue to put faith in the current squad and wait for players to return. He might feel a combination of the results in Europe and referees screwing us over means that the current poor form with the recent 4-4-2 line-ups will eventually change in fortune in the league.
  22. What exactly was his reaction, if you don't mind me asking?
  23. FFS, your main concern with PES6 is that you're utter crap at it! It's pathetic. It's even more pathetic that you indulge in a game because you never lose. Veteran Pro Evo players have absolutely no trouble competing at the highest difficulty. And that is the whole point of a game: competing; to pass some time with a bit of mental stimulation, not mind-numbing repetitive and unchallenging gameplay. With a little bit of motivation, no fear of a challenge, and a bit of patience, and I'm sure any new player can master the game. (What is with the young 'uns these days? They never want to put in a bit of work and expect everything to be put on a plate for them! ) Like Cocker said, there are tutorials to ease you into the game if you give the game a proper chance, and no-one is obliged to start at the highest difficulty (there is no shame in using the easiest level to start with).
