  1. I think it's a good squad having thought about it, or at least I think I can understand most of his less obvious choices. I don't think he needs to add a fifth striker anyway on the basis that 3 keepers must go then there's space for 2 players for every position and Joe Cole can cover as a 5th choice striker better than any english striker left out the squad (with the exception of Defoe). I can't really find fault with his selection of keepers - I hate David James, he's one of the most inconsistent I've ever known of but I can't think of a better english keeper who has had plenty of regular football all season. I think I'd rather take Scott Carson actually. Theo Walcott above Jermaine Defoe: Well he's a new player, he's a good player for sure but definitely a surprise, Defoe was the obvious choice BUT... Owen had his best time for England when he was very young and noone knew him or knew how to defend against him and likewise did Rooney - Walcott could be a master stroke by Sven! Hargreaves: Has to be included for his versatility. In a small squad to have a player capable of playing (admittedly not that well at times but never-the-less capable) anywhere across the midfield or in either fullback position is a very useful card to have. Rooney and Owen: Would not have been selected if their physios and doctors had said they would not recover in time therefore we can assume they are expected to be fit for the world cup - no problem with that then. Crouch: Has to be included as an alternative dimension to throw on if we're struggling to break down a defense with pace and through balls. Central Defense: Assuming Campbell is over his personal problems and is fully concentrated on football oncemore he is preferred by me above King, and likewise is Carragher for his versatility across the defense. ACole and Bridge are no brainers at left back as are Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard and JCole in midfield. Stewart Downing is the best naturally left footed english winger we have in my opinion and is a very good 2nd choice to have. I also agree entirely with Carrick who has tremendous passing ability (I almost considered comparing him to Tugay) and could really bring the best out of Owen, Rooney and Walcott! Hargreaves is an obvious 4th choice central midfielder for his versatility in being able to cover other positions. Lennon or Wright-Phillips: Well I have never thought Wright-Phillips was worth half of the 21mil Chelsea paid for him. He has pace and bags of it as he showed against us recently. He can go from 0-60 faster than Schumacher but I don't feel he has much else. He always looks lucky to me - the ball seems to bobble around his feet with him often having little or no control over it. In my opinion Lennon has much much more to his game and is also fairly fast. Gary Neville is another no brainer at right back but I'm worried that there is no natural cover for him should he break his leg or more likely his metatarsel (god forbid - touch wood) early in the tournament. Carragher and Hargreaves are both 'capable' of covering but not well. Hargreaves can be inconsistent and Carragher is useless going forward, something which a good fullback does regularly. The one yet to be mentioned is my only problem with this squad: I don't rate Jenas as a great footballer like some and I see him as surplus to requirements in this well rounded squad. I'd much rather see him replaced by a natural right back as cover for Gary Neville. I'm sure there's some people who will read this and agree and I know there will be many more who don't but I'm on Sven's side with this one. It's a great squad besides Jenas!
  2. When I saw the team sheet I was worried but I think the result says wonders about the quality in depth we have in some areas of the field! Fantastic to win at home on the final day and what a season. The last few years this has been a marvellous occasion with feelings of relief having finally finished and avoided an upset but this year it's a massive shame we won't be seeing them play again for so long!
  3. John Terry believes Chelsea deserve more recognition: http://www.fansfc.com/frontpage/frontpagen...p?newsid=151885 Doesn't he understand that we do 'just' shrug our shoulders when they win a trophy now. Infact the bigger surprise is when they fail to win a trophy. Maybe I'm too much of a cynic but the reason I don't recognise them winning the league as an achievement (or being so close to winning it at least) is because they bought it.
  4. I wouldn't want to sell MGP and the 1.5mil figure that has been thrown around a lot here is an insult to the lad. He was the difference between us and the bottom three at the start of the season. He is a very gifted player though he is without doubt absolutely bloody knackered! How many games has he missed all season? It does take it's toll! He'll be magic after the summer break and all you unforgiving Scrooge's out there will have completely forgotten the way you're slagging him off at the moment!
  5. The last four games have left us with a lot to do now just to stay in European contention. For some reason the players seem to have taken the foot off the gas and if they don't turn this run around then we could slip out of the European qualification places. That would be a bitterly disappointing end to the season! I think we are really going to have to go for 6 or 7 points. There are no guarantees now and we must approach each of the 3 remaining games as cup finals. Admittedly at the start of the season I would have taken 8th but after the way the team has developed and some of the exceptional performances that have been put in this second half of the season it would be a failure to fail to qualify for Europe (particularly given our position a month ago).
  6. Everyone is valid to their opinion but regardless of mine concerning MGP I see him as our own decent left footed midfielder who can cross a ball. Who do you suggest should have been playing on the left wing since January?
  7. What sign is there of rising crowds? Obviously there is more interest (represented by larger crowds when a top side comes to Ewood) but we are still getting pitiful crowds against teams like Portsmouth. Our crowds are very low and when you consider how cheap our tickets are in comparison to other premiership clubs it is embarrassing unless you consider that there is simply not enough support in Blackburn. Half the population of the town is made up of people of other ethnic origins with no interest in football (I am certainly no racist but just trying to explain low crowds) and half of what is rest can't afford to pay for premiership football regularly even when it is good value in comparison. We are a small club in a small town and with so many other clubs in our neighbouring towns and cities it would be very difficult to draw crowds from the surrounding areas. It is a very bad situation - I fear there are simply too many football clubs in the north west in relation to the size of the population.
  8. Oh how quickly the daydreamers are silenced... come on lads this is still a good season! Just because we're not going to finish 4th doesn't mean it is not a massive achievement for us to finish 6th!
  9. I've encountered many problems playing the game over a network since downloading the new patch (and yes everyone on the network has the same updated patch and data files). I'm even considering uninstalling it and going back to the original version when I had no problems previously. I had a game against my mates team for example and on my computer we were drawing 1-1, but on his he was losing 2-0 at half time. We were both seeing different games. After, both computers displayed my scoreline in the results but this meant that all his players had complained about unfair team talks and such because he'd given them a rollocking when they'd been losing at half time (as they were on his computer) but infact it seemed the real scoreline had been 1-1. Anyone had similar problems?
  10. Bellamy has looked like a player who should be in the Champions League and some of the goals Pedersen has scored makes them my top two with Nelsen very close behind. I think it would somehow seem more appropriate for one of our attacking players to get 'player of the season' because of how much our attack has improved over the season.
  11. greggyk I'm really not sure what you're trying to say because it's so off the wall so please make it easy for me... Do you think Rangers are a good football team compared to the large majority of other teams in the CL?
  12. That was a game we really should have won (and not just because we were previously aiming to finish 4th). Alright we were away from home but we were playing a bottom 5 club! I'm very disappointed with the result.
  13. Are you comparing every team in the competition to Rangers? Are you 5 years old or deluded?
  14. A decent team (mmmm an example... LIVERPOOL) would tear us to pieces if we play like we have in the last few games. The only reason we've managed to dig in and grind out draws is because the opposition is poor!
  15. I have given up hope of finishing 4th after today and to be honest we're just not ready for the Champions' League anyway, we'd be destroyed. Finishing 6th (as I expect we will provided we stop dropping easy points) would be a major achievement for us given our position 12 months ago. We should never look back at this season and say 'we missed out on the CL' but we should be saying 'we progressed fantastically as a team and made the UEFA Cup'. Fingers crossed (and I know we're good enough) to finish 6th!
  16. I previously didn't pin this as being one of our most important remaining games but having failed to have beaten Wigan this is truly a must win game! It is essential we throw our away form out the window now and pull off a masterstroke. Pompeii have been improving a lot lately and if we can dominate them, taking all three points, it will do wonders for confidence and help us to perform more consistently in the remaining matches.
  17. I wouldn't play Emerton above anyone! I think Bentley has a lot of promise and is already better than Emerton - a constant disappointment who has constantly failed to perform to his said ability.
  18. That result was not good enough and nor was the performance. Not upto the recent high standards we have set ourselves and unfortunately its a massive blow to our Champions League hopes but as I said before, the UEFA Cup would still be a major achievement for us and we should not be disappointed if we do fail to finish in the top four. Oh yeah, and as for Kuqi, I know non-league players who could make him look like a little boy. He is still way out of his league!
  19. Come on, you can do better than that... Where do you think the slang term "Pub" has come from? PUBlic House! So I guess that defines a pub as a public place.
  20. Buy from DELL!!! By far the cheapest option for PC's or laptop's - also a lot cheaper than building your own!

  22. Mate the smoking ban has nothing to do with them taking away our "rights and liberties". It is a very encouraging sign that democracy is infact working well! The vast majority of people (in England) believe smoking should be banned in public places and have made their feelings known to the government through various channels. You've got it completely wrong - the government is not taking away our rights but is infact noting our rights, opinions and beliefs and acting on them! They have handled this situation superbly and I know many smokers who are in no way offended or upset that their rights to smoke in public places is becoming limited. They accept it is their vice and non-smokers should not have to go out their way (find anothere restaurant/pub or another football stadium to attend) to avoid the dangers of passive smoking! P.S. If later all of our rights are taken away from us, it has nothing to do with the smoking ban but I will allow you to tell me "I told you so" because I know it will make you feel better.
  23. Given our current situation in the league this is probably our biggest game of the season so far (I expect I'll be saying that a lot though between now and the end) and I am very confident of our chances. The way we have played recently, I believe we are unstoppable and I can't wait to play Liverpool soon. I really think we will show Wigan that our previous meeting was no freak occurrence!
