  1. people are being extremely harsh on peter, gally and nolan. they'll only improve and get used to the pace by playing games. on neill, i like everyone else wasn't happy with his comments (& thought he should sign out of loyalty if only to ensure we get a decent fee), but, as i said back in June... you have to look at things logically. he is a foreign professional footballer who has no ties to the area, or the club, and like it or not, blackburn rovers aren't viewed as a big club (by players). his performances have been patchy, but the same can be said for a lot of players. his professionalism and commitment to the cause cannot be questioned (unlike a few others) and anyone who says otherwise hasn't been going to the games, or are looking for a 'Judas' figure. on the poor performances, relax. i'm confident that the deficiencies will be sorted out in January and in the meantime, I'd prefer playing poorly and winning, rather than playing well and getting beat.
  2. sums up my feelings perfectly. i also go because watching rovers is always unpredictable and i love football in gerneral.
  3. i applaud your optamism, presty! i'm gonna go for 2-1 rovers. bentley and nonda for us. we'll race into a 2 nil lead, newc will score in the last 10 minutes and set up a nervy finale.
  4. unbelievably, the BBC are deciding the 'team of the year' by having a text vote. purely a money making exercise, as we all know who'll win it. it's between RC team, St. Helens and Sussex.
  5. me too. Calzaghe never gets the recognition he deserves. his record is sensational. 42 fights, 42 wins, 31 KO's.
  6. yes his finishing was poor, but i dont think roberts displays were as bad as they've been made out to be. IMO both nonda and benni would perform better with roberts/ jeffers as a partner, than they have with each other.
  7. every cloud.... FLB. ii think MH is reluctant to play 'the axe' in games that are seen as winnable, but i'd expect to see him in away games against the top teams. i was extremely disappointed with last nights display. the performance against fulham should've acted as a springboard. i think we are far to easy to play against, especially away from home . we play infront of teams and very rarely get in behind them (unless emerton overlaps) due to bentley and ped not being the quickest. the benni and nonda partnership is not working. it seems obvious to me that both players need a pacey partner to bring out the best in them. their lack of effort in away matches leaves a lot to be desired, and has been rightly criticised, although the service they usually get is poor, it shouldn't be used as an excuse. our defending of set-pieces is abysmal, with ooijer probably the main culprit last-night, and we are conceding a ridiculous amount of poor goals. the switching off moments and lack of judgement have been addressed on the training pitch, but sadly nothing seems to be sinking in. i'd hope to see a change in personnel, but i think we'll stick with 'tried and trusted' and it could ultimately be to our detriment.
  8. and..... you get spat at and coins thrown at you by the scum in the upper tier. got a feeling it'll be chosen as the BBC sunday night game.
  9. i agree, pick. apologies if it's been mentioned previously, but i'm sure adu played with the admiral at DC utd ?
  10. good comfortable win. could’ve easily been 5 or 6, but burt, ped and benni missed absolute sitters. fulham offered little. rovers only had to contend with a couple of free-kicks (and they were dubious). benni, burt (he looked as confident as i've ever seen him, on the right wing) and henchoz were superb, but bentley was exceptional and ran the game from the centre of the park. good to see matty derbyshire. i think he should be given a game against 'nancy and lorraine'. i could comment about the abysmal crowd and referee, but it's all been covered before. lets hope today's game is the start of something. our next 3 lge games (charlton, newcastle and reading) are certainly all winnable.
  11. 'Ricky' post='463154' date='Nov 28 2006, 11:59 ' Earnshaw could be worth a shout as well as Eastwood. I'm still not sure why Earnshaw didn't make it at West Brom, his goalscoring record is excellent and Hughes knows him well from their time together with Wales. not sure about ernie. he's a decent goal-scoring record, but always seems a bit of a 'head-down merchant', to me (although, jansen was too- until christmas of the promotion season). he doesnt seem aware of those around him, his link-up play is poor and is always offside (saying that, so is benni). I've watched Eastwood a few times and I have been impressed with his movement and all round contribution. He will make the step up soon. burnley'd be a step up from southend! celtic have recently been linked with him. if i was him, -i'd want to get out of southend sharpish - seriously i'd go celtic, bang the goals in and then move to the prem. a word of caution though, we should remember he was playing in lge 2 not so long ago.
  12. sadly, we'd be wasting our time. most of the league are after him; including southern giants: spurs- (chelsea's are pointlessly trying to use him to try and get lennon), arse, wham. pompey. now, he'd prefer to stay in london, especially since his brother has gone to southampton, but other teams like villa, newcastle and boro would also be able to offer him substantial wages. as i said at the time, we shouldve gone for him this time last season (on loan). he was more than keen.
  13. nonsense thread. i'd like to ask the people who think we are in danger of going down - do you also believe bolton, portsmouth and villa will qualify for the champions league? thought not. the same logic applies to the bottom 6 or 7. have some faith. good job hughes doesnt join in the pessimism. imagine him saying: "we're fighting for our lives. these next 25 games are all cup finals for us !"
  14. most on this messageboard mustve become more liberal. i'dve been hung, drawn and quartered for a comment like that! ooijer is looking far more accomplished, but still makes a few mis- judgements. i'm impressed by his composure and technical ability, on the ball. when he comes out of defence with the ball, i wish he'd lay the ball off, just after the halfway line. impressive, but also a worry.
  15. i agree. MH and SAV had to say that. i was both suprised and pleased to see todd on the bench, as i bet the man himself was. this illustrates rovers were cautious, rather than negative.
  16. sad to hear about the stewarding problems. sounds like bolton and birmingham's jobs-worths have been moonlighting! on the game itself, we went for a point and got one. Feyernoord had a few good chances, but luckily their finishing was even worse than our defending. bentley was poor, (tugay picked him out 4 or 5 times in the 1st half, he shouldve made of the openings) as were and mccarthy and nonda,- the game plan was built around getting men behind the ball, maybe that explains it. MGP did brilliantly defensively and jeffers looked lively (probably due a starting role in place of nonda). my final thoughts are on the coverage and in particular- tim sherwood. he was less than complimentary, being kind and kept having sly digs at savage and our playing style. rovers need to employ a PR guru and quick, even our title- winning capt hates us! his quote "rovers are waiting to get beat" was absolutely outrageous. now we know where kinghorn gets it from!
  17. wegerle is almost a forgotten man now. his last-minute solo goal, against newcastle in 1993, remains one of my favourite rovers goals ever. back to tugay- words cant really sum the guy's talent up, but bazza has just about managed it.
  18. probably holds a grudge, pretty sure mark hughes replaced him in the chelsea side and he was flogged to QPR the following season. i've heard he's a born again christian. if his is, i hope he went to confession this morning.
  19. i think it's a blatant attempt to seduce him, so that he'll sign for spuds in january. lets face it, they're always on the look-out for midfielders.
  20. i was having a joke, with a play on words, fife. poor, i know.
  21. robot refs for me, or get the women refs to do it. they couldnt be any worse. at worst- refs are corrupt and at best -gutless. penalty or not, (although, my spurs and burnley fan mates all reckon it was harsh) the sending off is a staggering piece of officiating. in the very least refs should be made accountable. it's a closed shop and very cloak and dagger. the refs association will never agree to it, but refs should be hauled in front of the cameras to explain their decisions (immediately, not when they've had a chance to view incidents or think up an excuse). also, linesmen are becoming redundant. they never make their own decisions. referee's should go and find a sol and the linesmen grow some balls and use them. on the game itself, we were more or less comfortable, at 1-0 and 1-1. however, if we keep getting decisions like this, we'll struggle to stop up. a conspiracy- to get a small club out of the prem, is looking increasingly believable, as the weeks go on.. I’d also like to see the fans sing and chant support, at the same level of volume they raise to barrack officials. we need a twelfth man - to try and balance things up. also, amo doing the HT draw ??? who dreamt that one up ?
  22. let him back on and off the leash. whats wrong with free speash ?
  23. not sure about your selections, stella. we'll end spurs' dominance of ewood fixtures, dawson and king will be as shambolic as they were at reading, and rovers will win 2-0- nonda and mccarthy.
  24. CASINO ROYALE. SPOILERS AHEAD! Saw it a couple of hours ago. I was blown away and I’m still struggling to recover my composure. I apologise in advance for my ramblings, but my brain is absolutely frazzled (in a good way). Firstly, Daniel Craig, How does he rate ? Craig is, simply, fantastic. He delivers an absolutely flawless performance. Relentless, ruthless, violent, vulnerable and believable. This guy is actually BETTER (yes better) than the big man himself, Sean Connery......I never thought I would ever say that, but it is true. Bond, at last, is entirely believable and, because Craig has (for want of a better description….) such a broad range ,anything and everything is possible. Audiences will be put through the mill a bit, because the film and performances take in every conceivable emotion. When DC finally gets to deliver HIS "Bond... James Bond" he had me going "Blimey. You really are, mate!" *He is surely one of the best actors Britain has EVER produced. i'd strongly recommend layer cake, sylvia and the mother. Eva Green is stunning, in looks and execution (no pun intended) and she left me mesmerised. The film is brilliantly shot, edited and cast. everyone plays their roles superbly and it contains some of the best actors pieces I’ve seen It’s very well- written (although what paul haggis improved, from the original 2006 screenplay is probably the decisive factor). Surprisingly..... for a bond film, there are some incredibly moving moments. CR is my favourite book and the movie is almost entirely faithful to it. I think Fleming would approve If you're a DIE ANOTHER DAY or MOONRAKER fan, leave your expectations at home and forget everything you've seen before. It’s not faultless, but the gripes I have with the film are minuscule (not to spoil the film..... but mainly the scene where bond is poisioned and his quick recovery) I never thought I’d see another great bond movie, but it’s all there. I havent even discuss the breath-taking action sequences. This is a whitewash of the series which will, doubtless, usher in a whole new generation of Bond films, and ensure that the franchise reclaims its place as THE most successful,, influential and popular of all -time. For anyone with a knowledge of Fleming's character as he wrote it, this is the film you've been waiting for.
