Where on earth did that come from? Unbelievable performance and such a fantastic effort. Defended heroically and kept a brilliant shape all match and managed to have an attacking threat. When you look at the shambles of the past 2 months and given the tough recent schedule, the performance was exceptional! JE has converted us from a defensive horror show to a defensive masterclass in a few short weeks. Finally something to be proud of!

John Eustace - our head coach
Gamst replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Given the complete shambles that was December and January, I think Eustace has done really well to make us competitive again. Some wins would be nice, but its certainly refreshing to not go into each game expecting to concede at least 3 goals. -
Given the complete circus that is Rovers at the moment, this seems like a remarkably decent appointment. Fingers crossed he helps arrest our rapid decline.

We can’t sign a player or sack a manager without delays and confusion. We are absolutely useless at everything.

The way I see it is that we have a manager who wants to be sacked but a club who are too tight/disinterested to pay him off. We absolutely mustn’t go into a crunch match in this position. It’s looking increasingly likely that we will though. Sleepwalking to relegation. -

I know the board are busy finger pointing and buck passing, but at any vaguely functional club there would be some attention given to the current form. You either back or sack the manager. It would show that they had a vague interest in the club's fortunes. I can't see anything other than defeat given that we have a manager who doesn't want to be here and players who presumably would leave given half a chance. This degree of apathy is only going to lead to relegation. -

I am not the suspicious sort. I generally don’t give much credence to a conspiracy theory. I’m truly dumbfounded though (and aghast ) by our 3rd transfer related administrative error of the year. If reports are to be believed, we supposedly finished the paperwork at 8pm. I’m assuming you receive some kind of receipt from the EFL to confirm the paperwork is received and then some notification of a successful registration? At 10.30pm having not had any EFL reply, rather than calling the EFL to check on the status of the transfer, instead we take some pics of GB and the player and just announce the signing nevertheless. If this is genuinely incompetence and not willing negligence then the incredible lack of safeguards and oversight is beyond belief. We were reported to be interested in McGuire in early December I think. We have obviously been working on this deal for a long time and you’d think one of the many adults in the room might double and triple check the paperwork and the submission. When you submit an important essay or you transfer a large amount of money for a tax bill you triple and quadruple check. It really doesn’t add up and despite my generally trusting disposition I smell a rat. -

I have a suspicion we may have signed the player but not actually registered him to play. -

It has to be the Newcastle match on BBC 1 for maximum impact. It seems like the perfect opportunity. Something peaceful, law abiding and poignant. Maybe 20 000 people clucking on 17 and 85 mins. I dare say the Newcastle fans would join in. Chicken based arm actions optional. -

You are completely right. It has all the hallmarks of owners who don't care. Every decision seems to take aeons. Theres just no accountability and indecision at every turn. We are just completely paralysed by incompetence. If the owners had a vague interest they would sack all the board and JDT tonight. We clearly need a completely fresh start but this will just drag on for weeks like it did with Kean and Shaw and the outcome will likely be relegation and the shrinking of our club and its reputation. I'm grateful to JDT for shining a torch on the chaos and subterfuge behind the scenes but the toxicity is spilling over onto the pitch and any board worth its salt would act decisively. -

Im just really struggling to fathom how they could have got it wrong again? I suppose if you don't sack the responsible parties due to a complete lack of interest in events at Ewood park then you can't be surprised when it happens again? Surely you triple and quadruple check every last detail after what happened last year? Its just inconceivable that this could have happened again! Im still reeling from the O'Brien debacle and joked on the transfer thread on deadline day about the flashbacks I was having. Its just outrageous. How are these people still in handsomely paid jobs? -
The board are probably trying to annoy JDT so much that he resigns so they don't have to pay his severance package. I love JDT, but I do think he needs to leave as its clearly become toxic at the club to the extent that its becoming untenable. If he doesn't leave now, he will leave in the summer so he may as well go now so the club can plan for the future (I don't have much confidence in their ability to do this well). We need a strong character to come in to galvanise the players. Even Sammie who seems to be a very positive person looks crestfallen. This has translated into a complete lack of confidence on the pitch and we are in free fall. This only ends one way and that's with JDT leaving so it may as well be now. Im sure he will do really well at a more functional club.

Im having awful flashbacks of the O’Brian debacle. -
We have all the hallmarks of a collapsing club. On and off field. The only logical explanation for why they would stick around at this point would be to sell whatever assets remain. If a fire sale brought about their departure I would be on board with that. If they still don’t go then I suppose we just continue to shrink as an entity.

It’s ridiculous that our captain is lining up for a promotion chasing team this evening. He did well too in a vital win by all accounts. We appear to have brought in 2 unproven youngsters as replacements. What on earth are we playing at? -
It saddens me to say this, but I think JDT has to go. I think he is a great coach and a good guy, but sadly he's the right man at the wrong time. I'm sure he will go on to do well when he is supported financially. He persists with an ambitious attacking formation despite not having the necessary personnel. We need to do the basics right now to gather enough points to keep us in the Championship and he is unwilling to do this. I suspect he is making a point to the owners/directors by stubbornly playing his expansive style, but his protestations are now just becoming obstructive and it appears the players heads have gone and the wheels have come off. The amount of goals shipped is pathetic considering the decent defenders and holding midfielders we have and JDT has to take responsibility for this. The real nail in the coffin was the cut backs last summer and that's not JDT or GB's fault. Prior to that we wanted to adopt the 'Brentford model', but this requires decent financial backing otherwise you end up with the recruitment team having to perform miracles and take risks on unproven bargain basement talent like Leo and Semir and in reality its unlikely to work out. We are adopting more of a Crewe Alex model now and we are heading down either this season or next. I think we need a Nathan Jones character to reinvigorate the squad and work on a shoestring. That being said, we are just delaying the inevitable whilst the owners continue to orchestrate our managed decline.

If we truly serious about adopting the model of signing for cheap and selling for a profit then selling Wharton and using the funds to buy several recruits is exactly what we should do. However, we are not a normal club and our owners need a high court date just to pay the electricity bills. 95% of the proceeds will just disappear into the ether. Given the above, we must keep hold of our assets. -
Personally the most lamentable part of our very rapid demise is watching my 6 year old son losing interest. He was so keen last season and cried at Brammall lane and when we missed out on the playoffs. Our current lot are not keeping him interested and I have a job on my hands stopping him having his head turned by the ‘big’ teams that his friends support. We are a really hard sell and it’s getting harder every week. He did enjoy the 8-0 win at Harrogate though, so all is not lost this season!

v Rotherham Utd (h) - 1/1/24
Gamst replied to wilsdenrover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Not sure where we go from here. This squad managing to Arrest our drop down the table feels unlikely at the moment. If you cannot beat Rotherham at home with their catastrophic away record then it’s a very gloomy sign. I suppose resting and getting injured players back should be a priority as I have very little confidence in our January recruitment prospects! Not feeling especially positive. -
We finished outside the playoffs on goal difference last season. You can’t then set expectations at mid-table and expect anyone to take you seriously. It’s reasonable for a newly promoted club to aim for survival or mid table with the aim of then progressing in subsequent seasons. Waggot’s statement suggested mid-table mediocrity is our actual long-term strategy. This is never going to motivate your staff to succeed. Utterly flawed strategy from management sets the tone.

JDT has mentioned it several times. Our lack of ambition is holding us back and creating a malaise amongst everyone at the club including the fans. You just cannot have a club/business strategy that aims for mediocrity. It’s a recipe for disaster and Waggot’s comments are really coming home to roost now. JDT should be under pressure at this point and I suspect he would like that. Instead we have apathy from the club hierarchy. Not having much money is not an excuse for aiming for mediocrity…it might be an excuse for being mediocre, but the intention should always be to achieve. I doubt Luton had such lowly expectations last season despite their meagre wage budget. This isn’t just a football thing either, in any walk of life you should aim high and to aim low will result in a self fulfilling prophecy.

Gamst replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I suppose the positive aspect of our recent dive in form is that JDTs stock will be falling. I love JDT and think he will manage at the top, but I can’t help wondering if we’d be better suited to a Nathan Jones type of manager given how little money we have. I also wonder whether JDT is realising that the club is damaging his reputation as he is pretty well stifled by the lack of support he’s had. I suppose ultimately the choice of manager represents rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Our overall trajectory will always be downwards with our owners. Roll on 2024! -

Gamst replied to We Are The Rovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Really feel for the lads today. Great effort again but let down by the small inexperienced squad again. It would have been an impressive win and a lovely boost at Christmas .They are clearly knackered and the fixture congestion is only going exacerbate this. We have several injuries to key players, but a stronger squad could absorb this. The cost cutting in the summer is really hitting us hard at such a busy period. Comparing the 2 squads today and last week shows a startling disparity and the fact we are somewhere near the middle of the table is testament to the manager and players. Imagine what JDT could achieve with the necessary support. Give JDT and Broughton a chance and back them in January….if the Venkys are unwilling or unable due to their financial indiscretions to fund the team then please please please sell up and give us all some festive hope! -

One of the weakest subs benches I’ve seen in a long time. We don’t have the squad to cope with our injury list. Beaten by a poor opponent due to chronic neglect by the Venkys.
