  1. He chose other clubs over Manure twice, but sadly he never told Fergie to fuck off. I think I'm right in remembering that some poor followup from Manure, dawdling on pulling the trigger, is part of why he ended up here. Then he was all set to sign for them from us until his boyhood club came in. Jack Walker quite possibly wasn't going to let it happen anyway, but according to Martin Edwards a contract was already agreed and Shearer was happy to go there. He deserves to be lauded as a legend here for many reasons, but his refusals of Manure's advances are frequently overstated.
  2. We did, we had Patrick Gamble on the bench. At the time he got the knock we were only one up, so I admit it would have been a gamble (eyyy) at that time, but after the 2nd or even 3rd goal, surely he would have been brought on for Carter if we had any doubt about Carter's knock. Even a few minutes of being taken off can make a difference.
  3. If we made 3 of our subs after Carter took his knock, and after we went 3-nil up, and he wasn't one of them, I'm going to assume he will be playing on Wednesday.
  4. This seems to have been handled shambolically by the club as many things have been lately. Apologies if I've missed it, but I don't think they sent an email about this? I saw a post on FB about it from the club account, but that's not going to reach everyone. They would have saved themselves and a lot of fans a lot of hassle by just sending a mass email to everyone explaining what was happening and how to sort it.
  5. I was referring to Carter btw, with that first part about him staying on, and asking if we had made our 5 subs at the time he got injured.
  6. We could do to rotate occasionally though, think not doing could be why we pick up so many injuries. It's a thin squad, so options are limited, but I feel like Garrett has done enough this season to warrant some starts. Great exploits in the cup, uncompromising tackler, lovely assist for the third on Saturday and what I like to call a semi-assist for the second. Causes problems for opposition at both ends. I know he may need to work on his decision-making at times, but that's what senior games can do. I see he came on for Dolan, where did he play?
  7. Thanks, I didn't get to see the game, ironically because I was working a gig 6 miles away from the stadium! So I wasn't aware that happened. He stayed on though, had we already made our 5 subs when this happened? Interesting, I knew we got one, but I didn't know the other team got an extra sub too if we used a concussion sub. I suppose he could still be concussed, and because we weren't sure if he was at the time, we didn't use the concussion sub, to avoid having to follow the full concussion protocol if it turned out he wasn't. Which I assume you still need to do even if on later inspection there are no signs of concussion, since it bought you an extra sub. Now, if it turns out we do think it was concussion, I don't know if the protocols are enforced but we would probably be careful with him anyway and maybe follow them out of a sense of duty to the player's safety.
  8. Might be worth mentioning too that 'club-trained players' probably applies to the players who have trained at a club for 3 years between the ages of 16 and 21, which last I knew was the rule for club-grown players in European competition. This might mean players bought at 18 who were essentially Championship-ready would count, if they've been there 3 years, even if they cost a lot. I could imagine that might be the case for some players at Leeds and Boro, but I don't know. I suppose to a lesser degree, that would also include Dolan though, albeit he wasn't seen as breaking into the squad right away like he did.
  9. Why would Carter not be fit? Didn't he just play the full match against Stoke? Not sure if I've missed something there. If Wharton got concussion, yes he has to sit out for a certain period of time. I'm not clear on how long, although the FA's guidelines say the first stage of recovery is 14 days unless in enhanced care settings (which we probably have). Then there are 4 more stages before returning to play, although I imagine something like 7 days is probably the total process with modern professional clubs of our resources. But I've not read anything that says he actually got concussed, just that he collided heads and needed bandaging. He walked off the pitch and didn't go to hospital, so it doesn't really sound like he got concussed, and JDT never used the word. I expect he might miss Brum as a precaution if he's still sore, then be back for Sheff W.
  10. Not sure where you've both got that notion from. You lose momentum so it reduces your ability to put it in the box with pace. Yes your body will be naturally lifting backwards, but you can just, ya know...tilt backwards on a normal corner spot, without losing momentum.
  11. I'm actually surprised we're not top of that, and by some distance. Didn't realise Bristol, Boro and Leeds had so many, though I don't pay much attention in fairness.
  12. Thank fuck. Be nice if it's in January not the summer.
  13. Surprisingly little mention of Hendry in here.
  14. Although worth pointing out that last season when he completed 90 mins just 4 times, he scored 13 goals. If he were at least making cameos he could probably be contributing, but we've barely seen him at all. I hope his wage isn't high.
  15. I'm curious why we played every single fit striker at the club in a midweek u21 game
  16. Easy to forget he's actually still our second top scorer in the league even though he's not played much. Has he completed 90 minutes for us yet? Personally I'll try to wait til he looks fully fit before judging fully.
  17. With a loan contribution no higher than we were willing to make his wage on our last contract offer, and with no loan fee, yes. Which wouldn't happen. But on principle I'd be very loathe to give Villareal any money when they got our £7 million player for free and distracted him from the top of his game at a critical time for us, by courting him for over a year. No, I don't care if anyone here thinks that's petty, Villareal had every right blah blah blah so please nobody bother with that shit.
  18. Christ that's embarrassing. It doesn't really matter, but it's so basic a thing to get wrong. Amateur decade (and a bit).
  19. I think the most impressive thing about Tyjon is he has gone from being 16 in the summer, to being 15 now! As long as he's in control of that and it isn't some sort of Benjamin Button situation, he can have a career for as long as he wants...
  20. At his age, could still get a little quicker yet.
  21. 5-3, a goal from a corner into the box (imagine that). Game thoroughly over.
  22. 4-3 to PSV. Michalski saw it late.
  23. 3-3, deflected in just like PSV's second.
  24. Think our best players so far have been Edmondson, Tyjon and Bloxham. Bloxham has tidy feet, although he is sometimes a little over keen to show them off. Commentator just said again that Tyjon is 15, everything online seems to say 16 back in June though. Either way, at that age he could be one to watch, but especially if he's only 15.
