v Oxford United (a) - 18/1/25

Not sure if Harris is out injured or not, he didn’t play in their weekend loss in the FA cup but he scored a screamer past us at Ewood. I know we were linked when he was at Cardiff. He’s a player I’ve seen a lot of as he played in the same Cardiff youth team as my nephew. -
Cantwell having another poor game. Expect a lot more from him.
-
This really makes no sense Chaddy. It’s like saying why would we sign Jude Bellingham and then loan out John Buckley. I’m not having a go but I don’t think you’ve thought through the statement. If we can sign a better player than we currently have then it shouldn’t matter if they are the same age as one of our existing squad. It’s about improving the team. If we can bring someone in who is better than what we have then surely we should do it.

We’re an injury or suspension away from being in a sticky spot at CB. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Sanderson is a key part of the squad by the end of the season. I think it’s a sensible signing. Clearly a leader as he was Eustaces captain at Birmingham. Right age profile as well as he’s got experience but plenty of years left in the game. Hes also saying all of the right things. My concern is that we’re leaving it too late to bring in a quality forward. Winnable games coming up and I’d much rather have someone through the door.

Couldn’t have been too much of an issue if he’s currently the top scorer in the league.

And to think we had Maja pretty much sorted and managed to fuck it up. I didn’t realise Riis was out of contract in the summer. Would make sense for PNE to move him on for a fee now. We need a bit more up front and I think that’s something that we can both agree on. I’d be quite happy with a top half L1 loan for Leonard and a permanent and a better striker in on loan. I’d be very happy if that ended up being Riis and Danns.
-
Why sign Zinedine Zidane when we’ve got Tim Sherwood?? In short, I believe Danns is a better player than Leonard. I also believe that he’d come straight into the team and score goals. I’ve spoke to a lot of Liverpool fans who really seem to rate him. I don’t care about his age tbf, just if he’s good enough. I may be wrong, but I think he is good enough to do well in the Championship.

How many of those have happened since Park left? You’ve missed, or ignored, the point. The point made was that Park was Nixons leak. You’ve then quoted a load of things that Nixon got right while Park was still at the club.

I actually quite liked Wallace when I’ve seen him previously. Just not sure he’s what we need at this time. Bamfords finishing is awful, as mentioned previously. Phil suggested investing in some very good loans. Im not against that idea at all. Bring in some top quality for the second half of the season. I’ve mentioned Danns already, that’s one I’d like to see us go for. I know he’s young but I think there’s some real quality in there and he could score goals at this level. Was keen for us to look at Barry as well but I think he may have gone to Derby.
-
Leeds fans really don’t rate Bamford. Statistically he’s recent performances have made him one of the worst strikers in European football.
-
Jayden Danns post match interview was excellent today. Very level headed and the boy can certainly play! I’d like to think his dad might put a word in for us as well. He’d be an excellent signing on loan. Young but a real talent.

Buckleys just gone from an attacking move to pass the ball backwards to Tronstad, tronstad was 2 yards away and he missed the past and had Tronstad running backwards to recover the ball. Just looks like he’s lacking any confidence at all. -
The Forshaw signing is more of a worry for me as it’s a position where he’s likely to need to play and arguably hasn’t been good enough. Unlike the Birmingham fans who seem to rate Dion, the Plymouth fans couldn’t wait to get rid of Forshaw. He’s a downgrade from Baker IMO.

More yellow cards than goals and assists combined this season .

So you wouldn’t have been happy if we’d signed Stansfield then, based on him playing for a relegated team. Birmingham conceded less goals than us last season too. Im not against this signing at all. Nobody expected Batth to come in and play as many games as he has. Also many didn’t expect him to be as good as he has been based on him not playing much and not really being rated by the fans of his previous team. Blues fans I know seem to like Sanderson. Asked this morning and one comment was ‘some of Dions best performances were under big John’ and ‘he’s been very good at times but seems to have lost confidence’. I mentioned at the start of the window that I thought we may bring in CB cover and think that’s what we’ve done here. Wonder if he’ll replace Batth for next season when we have Carter and Wharton back as well.

Sunderland signing a midfielder from Roma with a promotion clause of £20m while we’re looking at a lad who can’t get a game for Cov 😄
-
Wonder if Stockport have asked about Leonard. They’ve just lost a loan forward so could be looking for one.
-
What’s quite good is that you can use two ticket from your allocation in any one game which makes it attractive to couples or friends. Split it between a couple of people if you are planning on doing a couple of games and there could be some value in it. Im coming up for Preston but that’s probably my only home game. If I could do a couple more it would be tempting to split it with someone.

Spot on Josh. They can spend but if they choose to spend is another matter. It’s typically a bad time to try to strengthen in one of the most important areas of the pitch (striker). You haven’t got the out of contract players to target and teams won’t want to sell players who are scoring for them bang in the middle of the season. I think we’ll struggle to get the quality we need for a promotion push. We’ll be ok and end up in mid table as we’ll add a couple of new signings but I can’t see us being able to bring in the quality we need.
-
Plymouth not scoring enough goals and went and spent £1.5m on a striker as early as they could in the window, didn’t even use the excuse of waiting on the new manager, just went and got it done. According to our resident transfer expert he wouldn’t have improved our squad though. Scored 5 goals in the europa this season against top flight teams, but wouldn’t improve our squad…. You couldn’t write it! Schlupp only comes if a contract is in place for him at the end of the loan. That’s event mentioned on the Nixon post. He’ll be looking for a final payday and I’d be avoiding it. Not against the Sam Surridge suggestion from Chaddy. I’m sure there are others out there as well but we do need to act quickly as we could waste 5 league games before the window closes otherwise. Those 5 games are all against teams that we should be beating and will define our season. We can’t afford to stumble through those matches and pick up draws and defeats. We really need to be active now and getting some real quality in, I quite like the suggestion of Kent but there are questions about his attitude. He’s a better age than Sclupp and would potentially be a better investment but he’s also been out of the game for a while

Should have scored the header
-
I think Cantwell has a lot to offer still. I just think he’s been off it since the suspension. Today he was poor but there’s a player in there. He wasn’t the only poor one today but he should have been hauled off after an hour but it probably highlights how thin our squad is that he stayed on.

Kicking off at Parker at full time

Couple of really bad set pieces so far. We won’t get a load of chances, we need to make those count.
