My concern is that he identified the issue last season and did nothing to rectify it over the summer. We’ve wasted preseason by playing weak opposition (apart from Rangers) and playing the players who he already said weren’t good enough. We needed to be giving a new back 4 a good run of games. We can’t afford to throw away points with a tough few games coming up. We really had to hit the ground running.

Well I dreamt 5-1 last night. Travis was one of the names on the score sheet. For the life of me I can’t remember the others.

I think we definitely need one but agree we could do with two ideally. It’s a shame the players will have to come in with no pre season games to get up to speed. Every point is priceless in the championship and we can’t afford to drop points while players get used to playing together.

If you’d told me 10 years ago that Mellison would be a mod I would have thought you’d lost your minds Good luck to all of the mods. I did it for around 10 years in the end. Look at the players Derby got on loan and the difference they made. They seem to be getting the Waitrose players and we’re still shopping in Lidl.

Mowbray has had a massive brain fart with his comments about our defence last season. Coming out and saying he would be signing defenders as our existing ones weren’t good enough has backed him into a corner. He thought Bauer was a done deal and it’s bitten him on the arse.

Now announced that Charlie Adam has gone to Reading.

The worrying thing for me is that we are about to play our third game of preseason and we still don’t have the keeper sorted. We need time for the defence to gel and that will only come with match time.

I thought he was decent for us on his last loan so I’m optimistic about this one. There’s something about him. Would be nice to now look at sorting out the shambolic defence and obviously get a decent keeper through the door.

I like Jedinek but he’s 34 now so I dont think he would be a good option.

Definitely the type we should be going for. Young and coming towards the end of his contract. They would want a fee for him but it should be within budget and wages shouldn’t really be a problem. Only worry is that his performances will have attracted interest from others so not sure if we would get him or not.

Really good post that. I would like us to go for Matt Clarke as well. I work in hampshire and some colleagues are Pompey fans and rate him very highly. Not getting promoted may mean he wants out. Jarod (Bowen) will probably end up at Everton who have been monitoring him for a long time.

I would be happy with any of the three. I thought Gallagher was decent last time he was here but some people who watched him more weren’t so impressed. Out of the three linked I have to say Austin would be my preferred option. Would fit straight into our system and take the pressure off Danny Graham.
