He’s done fantastically well considering he has to work with a lot of young lads and a bottom half wage bill. So ergo you will have inconsistent performances. Whereas those down the road , with no budget worries, can bring in footballers that can hit the ground running at this level.

Inconsistency is the issue, you never know what kind of performance we will put in. Be that intensity, the press or individual displays. But at the end of the day it’s what you have to expect with a lot of young lads and the generally middling second tier footballers that our budget allows us to bring in.

Who cares if we had a better ‘team’. The point of a club like us paying for a Cat A academy is to have a conveyor belt of players coming through. Diamonds amongst the rough. Hardcastle and Tomlinson?! They ended up playing in non league (after getting a chance in league football). The players coming through in recent years have dozens to hundreds of Championship games under their belts, 17/18 year olds not looking out of place. Of course this is a golden era for the academy.

No he just likes being a contrarian these days (well I hope that’s the explanation or he has even less of a clue than I thought). Like a game for a club already champions and having a late season kick about is ‘far bigger’ than for one still chasing promotion, a promotion that could fundamentally transform BRFC.

Though as a counter to that, away from this board the owners aren’t particularly unpopular these days from what I can see…

My father in law comes over from Lytham, he’s getting on a bit and he’s thinking about knocking it on the head… and he’s been a regular since the early 60s. He has Sky and dragging himself over to Blackburn when pretty much every game for months is on TV? Three home night games in ten days coming up - all on Sky. It’s obviously not normal (and probably wouldn’t be repeated again) to have so many home games shown live in half a season, but those fans that have to travel decent distances (which is ever increasing with our fanbase), you imagine a fair few will be weighing things up…
