This bloke , who I spoke to very briefly , told me to to move my car simply because it was parked outside a resident's house (apparently they'd been complaining) . It wasn't on a double yellow . Like I said the conversation was brief ..... Two minutes later , I had second thoughts and relented ; the fact that the queue was a mile long and I had the world's worst bout of flu had nothing to do with it ....

What self respecting Chief Executive would work on the principle that there is going to be no demand for his product for decades into the future ? Hell ; I'm hoping there's going to be a similar demand as early as the next fortnight . Let's hope it's better organised ....and if it means a couple of employees working a night shift on the phones , then so be it ...

I was informed today that at one stage yesterday a grand total of one person was on the phones....It seems that they've only about seven people at any given time to man the phones and windows.....Wonderful .

That presumes that Labour voters in Blackburn buy newspapers for their political content , and that the Mirror is representative of these voters . Unfortunately the campaigning days of the Mirror when "proper" journalists like Paul Foot were employed are long , long gone . The Asian Image has a large circulation round these parts , I've heard , probably because it's cheapish - well , free actually .... and they only mention the Rovers because we sponsor the rag .... The great playwright Arthur Miller sadly died a few days ago , a wonderful writer and a brave man who stood up to be counted during the McCarthy era , a time when those holding unpopular and unfashionable views found their freedom of expression suppressed . Some things it seems never change ....Miller famously challenged the prevailing attitudes with , amongst other writings , his masterpiece The Crucible , a play that is as relevant today as it ever was - and which appropiately has lately been shown as far afield as China . Maybe it would find an appreciative audience in our own Birmingham ... On a similar theme I recently finished The Crucible in History and Other Essays - recommended a couple of years ago by Ade who used to post on here . Whatever happened to him ?

He most certainly is . I've seen him at a junior football awards presentation and he was excellent with the kids . Gave a good speech too .
