  1. The Clog and Billycock has been sold and is closed for refurbishment till October 6th. The Royal Oak at Riley Green is good but I'm not sure it matches an anniversary nosh up. It does offer very good pub food and service. I haven't been, my wife has, but I hear the Butlers at Pleasington is very good. Other than those there isn't much around Blackburn at the moment. The Ribble Valley has a lot of choice. The Assheton Arms at Downham is tremendous but you might need to stay overnight!!!!!!!
  2. And only six clubs, outside the PL, in the UK enjoyed a higher attendance than Rovers.
  3. Excellent game of exciting and absorbing football which I really enjoyed. We out played Villa for much of the game, I'd say we were on top at least 60/40 and possibly 70/30 - not dominant but on top of the game as a Villa goal was always a possibility. We dropped points because of a stupid free kick beautifully executed. We'd have been singing Charlie's name all night if it had been one of his Lenihan was far better than most are suggesting with just the two poor errors in the space of, what, a minute? Credit to him for recovering and not losing confidence. I thought Charlie should have given him a quiet word of encouragement at that point. Five minutes extra time? Obvious really. Six substitutions which I believe are 30 seconds each is 3 minutes plus 2 for a lot of Villa time wasting at throw ins. Very, very happy with the manager and team performance. We grow in to this league with every game that passes.
  4. It's precisely the same. The item is lost and there is a replacement cost. Whether or not one choses to break the law by not replacing a driving licence is irrelevant as it's a separate and personal decision. You can similarly chose to stop watching Rovers by not replacing your ST - the only difference being legality. Apparently the £10 charge is in the T&C's. Like the vast majority I've never read these, you haven't as you'd be aware of the charge. The T&C's will be published by the club. You complain you weren't informed of these charges. Do you want to be read out a series of statements when you purchase a ticket as is the case with insurance etc? That's the alternative. It simply would not work. Imagine buying a match ticket over the phone? As a general point, rather than the specific ST charge, the club is a business. It needs to do all it can to at least cover costs. It seems a section of the support find this unreasonable and expect those costs to be funded elsewhere. Every effort to cover costs is criticised by those who believe they know better ways to run a football club. I'm still waiting to see concrete proposals on this. It makes no sense and is unrealistic to expect the club to be run in any fashion other than attempting to cover costs.
  5. Just a few replacement costs at random Senior rail card £10 Driving licence £20 Passport £75.50 Oyster card £10 GMPTE £10 Sadly our house has done the first three this year. Never mind let's kick the club at every opportunity.
  6. A very sad state of affairs. I for one hope Bolton find a way out of this. On the basis of the two links I'm struggling to understand the situation. Blumarble are owed a sum, £4m?, plus interest which Anderson claims to have offered to pay. Unless Anderson is offering substantially less than was originally agreed how/why would Blumarble put Wanderers in to administration? I imagine they would then receive less than the reported offer. A twelve point deduction would very likely finish their season. It will be interesting to see if the EFL have the balls to do it. The future? If this clears Bolton's debt someone will step in with a cheap offer claiming to bring a new beginning blah, blah. 'Twas ever thus and will ever be. Modern football is a cesspit. Blumarble to buy from the administrator? Surely one day those who run the game will grasp the need to bring order to an industry which is out of control and ultimately heading for oblivion. All that keeps "English," no such thing in truth, football alive is Sky. If they ever pull out who would save it? Amazon quite likely. Hard to know which company is the more despicable.
  7. No. I agree with you in regards to the need for professional athletes to look after themselves. The photograph and other incidents indicate Dack isn't doing this and it could lead to the situation Egyptian Pete described. I don't believe the photograph had any influence on the team's performance at Bristol - it seems to have been a typical Rovers performance with the difference being in this league we'll get hammered. Last season we got away with wins and draws when we only turned up for one half. Nowt to do with photographs and everything to do with the mystery of why we do it!!!
  8. I haven't agreed with, and still don't, what @Stuart has been posting about Dack in relation to the photograph and it's influence on Saturday's performance. Where I would agree with him is all footballers need to look after themselves properly and if this photo is one indicator Fack fails to do so then the quoted price has to be the real worry. I think TM is wise enough to ensure Dack's antics don't adversely influence the squad. What will be a big test will be checking his behaviour and if he can't then getting a high price in January. Even at my very low amateur level I can feel the difference in my cycling when I'm carrying a free extra pounds. Goodness knows what it's like for a professional athlete.
  9. To answer the question in the last paragraph, I could not care less. I read 442's article on how it works. Seems enormously complicated and if the intention is to provide competitive games what is there to show nations will take it seriously? The international break simply gets in the way of watching Rovers.
  10. I never feel this is a valid argument. Raya is part of the team it's his job to stop us going 2-0 down. I haven't seen the game but I'd wager he's not the only one who contributed to this position.
  11. I always feel you're entitled to your view and admire the way you stick at it in the face of much criticism. However with this assessment I think you're flat out wrong. Palmer does chase back and tackle but what I've noticed is he doesn't chase lost causes in this situation. He's certainly not shy about trying to win to the ball back, especially when he's lost it either side of the halfway line. He will prove you wrong but he's never going to be the all action, high octane player you compare him with in Rothwell.
  12. To call him a show pony ignores much of the work he does, making himself available, regularly winning headers, etc. Yes, he's too clever at times, playing passes which put the receiver under pressure which I think shows he expects others to be at a higher level. From what I've seen of Dack this season he's been quiet, especially judged against last year. The big difference is he has two or three opponents on him, as often occurred last season, but at this higher level it will be much harder for Dack to beat them all, not the case last year. Where Palmer comes in is that he can be equally dangerous on the opposite side. As our season develops I believe our opposition will realise simply stopping Bradley Dack won't stop Rovers. This should force teams to spread their defensive play across the pitch rather than simply crowding out Dack.
  13. No he should not be coming in to replace Graham, he's here to prove he can be our best striker and earn the right to replace Graham. Danny Graham is one of, possibly the most, influential player at the club. Presumably Brererton will be given opportunity to show he can replace him but till then Danny should be first choice.
  14. Comedy gold in here today. Thanks to the posters who appear to have been at the game for some excellent reports.
  15. Good sense. The photograph doesn't give a good impression of the player and so reflects on the club. Any discussion of drink is irrelevant because no one has evidence he was drinking.
  16. I appreciate this but my point is a player is arriving with a reputation - my only knowledge of this is words on here - and he should be granted the opportunity to show he's changed, presuming he has. Tony is, I feel, old school in his thinking if Rodwell has issues Mowbray will be aware of them and believe he can manage the player.
  17. From what I recall Craig Bellamy had a poor reputation when he arrived at Ewood. Jack Rodwell may have issues surrounding him but let's give him the benefit of doubt. I had forgotten him until my lad reminded me of who he is.
  18. @Mattyblue it's a question to which there probably isn't an answer. I imagine most ST holders wouldn't object to a small number of games but suspect there is a point at which that would change for some. Personally I don't care, within reason, what others pay and I'm not influenced by the squad make up. I've good seats at a competitive price. I'd very much support @Lancaster Rover in his idea. That would work well for many fans.
  19. I understand your argument but it would be an administrative nightmare for the club and longterm lead to complications and complaints. At what point would a deadline become a deadline? The club did it last year, why not this? Etc. It's important to have clear, set deadlines.
  20. It doesn't look great but it didn't look so good with at most 2-300 huddled in a back corner. That's not a criticism of the fans. There's more noise from the BBE than for several seasons and this will increase. The JWL area is very quiet and I doubt will last much longer. If I had been in the DE and had moved to the JWL I would now be looking to moving to the BBE.
  21. I completely agree with you. I may not have chosen my words very well re Villa, Boro etc. I don't mean they will show us our real position or put us in our place like little upstarts. I meant the matches against these sides would show us our position and strength relative to sides some would suggest are better placed to challenge for promotion. I didn't mean to put the club down. We deserved our promotion, the promoted side has so far shown it is good enough to compete in the Championship. There may be a concern over strength in depth but yesterday began to disprove this, there is no way Brentford could be considered a better team than the one we put out. Yes we lacked creativity but were solid, worked very hard, didn't concede late and took pretty much our only chance. A tried and tested recipe many have lauded on here - but when talking about other teams!!!! I think we need to strengthen for a sustained challenge but as we stand I'm very confident of top 10 and even sneaking in to sixth. Hell Preston finished 7th and I hear no one raving about them. Millwall and Brentford, 8th and 9th, couldn't beat us. I'm full of confidence in the team, manager and club. No question about it. If Tony really fancies Brentford, I think there's an element of talking things up, he must feel very good about his Rovers side.
  22. In which case I'll be disappointed if we don't meet them in the playoffs. If Brentford are as strong in this division as people suggest, this is the first time I've seen then, I believe Rovers have every chance of matching their league position. Brentford only finished 9th with 69 points. Personally I feel Villa, Boro, Derby, Leeds, WBA, Swansea and perhaps Forest or Norwich are going to show us our real position. Those are the days I'll feel nervous as we come down LBR.
