January Transfer window

Sanderson apparently was brilliant under Eustace but his form dipped after he left. Forshaw not been great this season. Similarity? Both were playing in very unsuccessful Wayne Rooney sides. On paper they are underwhelming signings, but they are Rovers players now and until they’ve done wrong, let’s give them our support. -

Five loans allowed in matchday squad. 1. Beck, 2. ACD, 3. Sanderson, 4. Forshaw (possible) We still need a decent left winger and a striker, so unless we are spending good money, one of those isn’t happening, unless we are after Ryan Kent on a free. -

I think that’s what has been pivotal to our success this season, keeping the goals conceded down to 23. At this stage last season we’d conceded 47. If we can bring someone in that can score goals, we can be serious about the playoffs. Win that game in hand and we are back up to 5th. -

Another day of refreshing this page, hoping for a genuine transfer link! This window is starting to feel even more underwhelming than previous seasons, especially with winnable games approaching and our desperation for a goalscoring striker. We’ve had so many games where we’ve conceded only one goal and with an Armstrong, Rhodes or Sammie we’d have potentially gone on and won the game comfortably. Why the club hasn’t made this an absolute priority and got us a natural finisher in already is just laughable. We could be pushing for automatic promotion. Our current main fit striker has one league goal in 24! At this stage last season, Sammie had 16 goals. Current top scorers. 1. Yuki Ohashi 24 apps 5 goals 2. Andreas Weimann 20 apps 4 goals 3. Tyrhys Dolan 23 apps 2 goals = Danny Batth 22 apps 2 goals = Lewis Travis 20 apps 2 goals -

Consensus on the CC board is that he can be trouble. Similar said when he was at Barnsley. Positively though, they think there’s a decent defender in there and he gets on really well with Fadz so if he stays and can keep him in check, it could be a decent signing I guess. -

Morton I’d take back, but Kitching?? How do we expect to get promoted taking ‘out of favour’ players from teams below us 🤷🏼♂️ Edit: We are Blackburn Rovers….its what we do. It’s not worked before, so we’ll do it again. -

I read a few pages on Stokes forum earlier about his recall, and a few posters stated unless he plays further forward, he just drifts out of the game and becomes anonymous when played in that deeper role. -

Injuries to Tronstad & Brittain, could potentially see the need for JRC at right back and a midfield pairing of Buckley and Garrett. An 'average' Baker stands head and shoulders above those two. -

I don't disagree with you, its absolutely stupid, but as I said, for us to spend anything over £1m is going to completely buck the recent trend for the January window historically. I would love that to change, but if we are all going to sit tight and hope they are going to splash £10m in transfers, we are building ourselves up for huge disappointment again. Like most, I was actually duped into believing O'Brien and McGuire were happening. I'm not falling for it again. It just will not happen. -

The talk of offering a significant fee for Tom Cannon is wishful thinking. It's what other clubs might do to aid in a promotion push, but it's never going to materialise here. We'll do what we have done the last two seasons, and be looking for a new manager in the summer. Just doing some quick research using the 'soccerbase' website (which could be completely wrong, so stand to be corrected) list the last transfers we have spent over £1m during the January transfer window as: Ben Brereton 2019 (£7m) * Elliott Bennett 2016 (Undisclosed, so not sure on actual fee, but included just in case) Mauro Formica 2011 (£3.5m) El Hadji Diouf 2009 (£2m) Previous windows with the promise of O'Brien and McGuire would have seriously broken this trend, and I just don't see any different this year and we are dreaming if we think otherwise. If Kent & Schlupp are the best we can hope for, then let's get them in and at least bolster the squad for the run in. A goalscoring striker is what we are desperate for, but will be hard to come by, so if we have to take a risk on a youth player like Jayden Danns from Liverpool, then why not? Owen Beck hasn't done too bad! I personally still think Harvey Vale would be a great signing. Young, versatile and practically being pushed out the door on a free by Chelsea to thin their squad. A far better acquisition than another John Fleck type player. Yes he had a disappointing spell at Hull a few seasons back which was hampered by injury, but the Bristol Rovers fans raved about him last season. -

Take all that onboard. They were just a few examples of what is available and that they are being sent out on loan. Might be that the parent clubs want them getting 90 minutes of senior football in the championship, rather than sitting on the bench in the Prem. Anyway, if we are to make any loans, lets hope they are more like Beck and less like Fleck! -

There's a Chelsea player Sunderland are looking at, which means we'll probably not stand a chance. His name is Harvey Vale and supposedly oozes potential and can play a number of positions, left back, left wing back, attacking midfield and forward. Out of contract in the summer, so could be a great investment for the future, with a loan to sign on a free in summer. A few loan options could include: Jayden Danns (Liverpool, Striker) - Just back from injury, but they could be tempted to send out for remainder of season. Cardiff & Plymouth both enquiring about a deal. Toby Collyer (Man Utd, Defensive Midfielder) - Raved about and considered future Casemiro replacement. Van Nistelrooy rates him very highly and rumours Leicester want him on loan. Could provide cover for Travis. Jaden Philogene (Aston Villa, Winger) - Excelled at Hull and Villa looking to send out on loan. All a bit ambitious, which doesn't match our clubs profile, so not sure why I've bothered, but if we want a successful run in, these are the types of players we should be tracking. Harvey Elliott and Owen Beck have shown there are exceptional talents out there available for loan and we clearly aren't looking to spend big on transfers. Anyway, that's my pointless input on the topic, I'll just sit back and await the next John Fleck!! -

I’m a massive fan of John Eustace, but poor decision starting with Gueye. One league goal is not good enough. Obviously need to bring a goalscorer in, but Leonard must be given the starting position up top until we do. -

Winning run was always going to come to an end at some point. Still sitting in a position none of believed we’d be in. We just need someone clinical in front of goal. Gueye (1 league goal) and Ohashi (no league goals since September) just aren’t up to it. Both may offer something but goals isn’t it. -

Reading the positives about Travis & Tronstad and completely agree, both have been superb this season. But are they the ones we should be worried about potentially losing in January? Losing one or both would completely derail our season. -

John Eustace and this squad have got me loving Blackburn Rovers again. I think we all thought after Sammie went we’d struggle. What a job he is doing. I know Venkys & Waggott will do their best to f*?k it up again in January, but at the moment I just cannot wait until the next matchday 🔵⚪️🔵⚪️🔵⚪️ -

Feel more confident of three points in this fixture than I did in predicting the previous four, so……..3-1 Dolan, Travis & Baker. -

Great support from the travelling fans. Fantastic to get another three points and clean sheet. And what a job John Eustace is doing. Of course the players deserve credit, but he’s got this squad fired up and the ‘togetherness’ is a delight to see. Venkys need to back him in January, I truly believe he is the manager to get us promoted. -

Weimann/Leonard Cantwell. Baker. Ohashi. Tronstad. Travis. Beck. Batth. Hyam. Brittain. Pears. Subs: Toth, Pickering, McFadz, JRC, Buckley, Hedges, Siggy, Weimann/Leonard, Gueye. If ACD fit, then he goes on the bench for one of either JRC or Hedges. No place for Dolan either, so its him or Siggy I guess. Would like to see something like the above. Gueye causes defenders issues with his physicality, but with no goals in 14 league games, I'm not sure we can keep persisting with him. No doubt, sooner or later he'll get one, but there is no way if he plays every minute between now and May, he's getting double figure returns. Ohashi has now gone two months without scoring, and despite those four goals early in the season doesn't look like he is going to be the answer as our main striker either. He does however give his absolute all for the team, displays some good football intelligence and can make some encouraging runs, so maybe, Portsmouth at home would be an ideal opportunity to see if playing him as one of the three behind the striker would benefit both him and the team. If it doesn't work out, there are options on the bench. Main striker for me has to be either Weimann, who showed on Saturday he can get into the right position to finish those chances or Harry Leonard. With AW unlikely to last 90 minutes and Leonard returning to fitness, it's maybe an ideal opportunity to give them a half each. Just feel more confident of those two scoring than Ohashi or Gueye at the moment, but as soon as the January window opens, this position should be a priority. I think Lewis Baker deserves to start so would play him centrally of the three behind the main striker. Would get stuck in a bit more than Dolan or Siggy too and proved Saturday, he has a good eye for goal. I think Pears (looks better recently), the back four, Tronstad, Travis and Cantwell pick themselves at the moment. Just my opinion!!
