It’s a long time ago but the lesson is still valid…when I was in sales I had targets for sales volume, margin & fees. I also had “New, New Business” targets to ensure that I continued to grow my portfolio by bringing in new customers & I didn’t therefore just take a short term view and milk my existing customers to the point of extinction. If I owned Rovers I’d set the CEO demographic growth targets, loyalty targets & new customer targets. -

The DNSYE guys have become great football buddies, really enjoy going on their show. We don’t have concrete plans to do that sort of show as yet, mainly because of the workload involved - a weekly show would essentially takes 3-4 hours each week (including recording, editing, promotion) & of course ties up a host/editor each & every week. If we get to a point where our contributor pool is sufficiently large, willing to do it & able to do it (technically) then it would be great to produce something like that for sure. -

The match against Watford on Saturday 23rd December is once again #FanTakeover day. As part of the day's events, 4000 Holes was invited to Brockhall in order to interview players Dom Hyam, Sammie Szmodics, Harry Pickering, Harry Leonard, Adam Wharton, Sondre Tronstad & the manager himself - Jon-Dahl Tomasson. We explored various Christmas themes, childhood memories, first kits/heroes and family customs - the questions were posed by Ian Herbert & Roger Whiteside. Thanks to everyone at the club for their willing and enthusiastic help - especially Rob Gill. Buy your Watford tickets HERE Rovers fans and support the team as best you can. Links to listen HERE

I too can’t see them backing down. if you want a change in behaviour - uptake of digital ticketing - the way to do it is with incentives to adopt NOT to punish non-adoption. It’s an insane approach. “Buy a digital ticket & win a chance to sit in the Directors Box/meet the players/win a shirt” it’s really not difficult to come up with something to promote digitisation. I’ve spent over 40 years in financial services having to design and implement processes that enabled inclusion, allowed vulnerable customers to fulfil their needs and helping them to do so with minimum effort. This approach beggars belief. -

Back from Southampton an hour ago, one pizza & one glass of Malbec (large) to the good now. Right from the off it was clear we were on the back foot. Southampton pressed us hard and we struggled to break their lines. They looked sharper, more technically innovative and generally up for it. Their crowd was noisy, supportive and occasionally witty. Rovers looked what we are, a small squad, over-worked, lacking nous, given the runaround. The two late goals are both cruel but in fairness served to deliver a more realistic result. How we react over the next three games is what matters now. Got to say 1300 Rovers fans in St Mary’s this close to Christmas is terrific, but this result will hit next week’s gate you fear & as for the FA Cup tie digital-only farce, then we deserve a paltry crowd for the contemptuous way the club has treated its most vulnerable supporters. A thoroughly disappointing excursion. -

Of all the amazingly short-sighted proposals Rovers have come up with in recent years, this is the most counter-intuitive. Good for the environment ? Nonsense, as you can still print at home. This is clearly a measure to reduce workload in the ticket office & save costs. How an organisation can alienate potential customers so readily is beyond me. Inclusivity goes beyond race/gender/sexuality - it also includes age & those who are differently abled. This is saying to those without the hardware &/or technical savvy that they aren’t wanted. Absolutely bizarre. -

https://www.brfcs.com/magazine/podcasts/the-round-table-show-rovers-fighting-talk-2023-semi-final-1/39 In yet another shameless rip-off of, sorry, that should read wholehearted tribute to, BBC 5 Live's much loved 'Fighting Talk' show, the panel tries their hand at a Rovers version once again as a seasonal treat. This is the first semifinal & features guests Louis Gee, Ryan Hildred, Michael Taylor & Roger Whiteside. The questions are posed by Ian Herbert & the sound effects were curated by Stuart Grimshaw. Which two panelists will emerge to go through to January's Grand Final ?
