Saw enough there to be concerned that a couple of injuries to key players would be incredibly impactful. Kargbo livened things up for 20 minutes then disappeared. The defence looked brittle. The midfield largely overrun. The attack - anonymous for 70 minutes. Without significant signings in August this squad has us looking down the league not up. We can but hope that Sheffield Weds & Hull City book two of the places and Charlton/PNE/Oxford stumble else it could be a tough old watch. -

Should never read too much into pre-season…but that said, a lot of concerns expressed on here in recent weeks are being vindicated. -

Pears’s Instagram is worth a quick peep…on 15th June he posted 10 photos, he’s in 5 of them. In every one he’s wearing a cap. Last week he posted three more. In each one, he’s wearing a cap…😆 -

A manager of mine once told me (with a straight face) that being made redundant at 45, having not long moved house to take the job, was “an exciting opportunity for me…” -

Improving isn’t the goal. Cost cutting is the prime objective…hopefully whilst avoiding relegation. But… -

There aren’t many lower division clubs that break even…our role model now therefore is possibly Rotherham Utd. Roll up…buy your season tickets now… -

Semantics…but I think Venky’s strategy is “The losses* must not exceed X” & if the by product of that is relegation, then they aren’t unduly concerned. Rudy & Suhail are more likely to be targeted on financials than league position. Their task being to minimise losses recognising that if relegation occurs, the cost base needs to be cut even more dramatically. This explains short term contracts, no wage increases, no sizeable fees entertained, season ticket prices held (revenue is up yet sales have fallen don’t forget…). *the amount you want from us every season -

The stress under live recording studio conditions is significant…when they read out the answers you can’t help but slap your forehead. There was a VAR in this round…they initially said Diego Costa was wrong but Scott stood by his guns & after much Googling was proved correct…😁
