Pretty much my thoughts, too, Rev. In fact, I’m quite warming to the appointment, assuming it’s Tomasson who gets the nod. He has an outstanding pedigree, albeit mainly on the playing side of things. He’d probably be the first to admit that his first foray into management/coaching was a relative failure. He then corrected that by serving an apprenticeship, as a number two for several years, with the Danish National side, before trying again with Malmö and delivering two championships. A move to England, or similar standard, would be seen as his natural progression up the coaching ladder. It has got to be reiterated that we have Venky’s in charge who have a history of penny pinching (and wanton waste) where managers are concerned. With the candidates interviewed so far, it’s clear that they have not changed their modus operandi, so who did we honestly think we would get? Under the circumstances, I feel he would be a decent choice and certainly better than most of those on the managerial merry-go-round of mediocrity. With the choice of Broughton as DoF, it also feels that Tomasson would be a good fit with regard to bringing in young players, developing them and then selling on for a profit. Something he worked on at Malmö. Both Broughton and Tomasson singing from the same hymn sheet. Nothing would please me more than Venky’s throwing in the towel and off loading us onto fresh owners but it seems like this move to DoF and Head Coach is the first positive from them in twelve years. It may work, it may not but I’m cautiously optimistic.

With due respect, 1864, it doesn’t. Once again, it’s vague, wishy washy and has no specifics. Not sure what you’re trying to say in your fourth paragraph. Are you suggesting folk on here believe he has the power to overrule the owners, because I can’t ever remember that view being put forward. He may well have got the DoF bit right but, there again, it may well turn out to be a damp squib.

Some folk on here like to put the boot in from the off. With inevitable hindsight, they can then tell the world that the appointment was wrong, should that person fail to deliver. I was rather sceptical of the abilities of our hierarchy to get it right. So far, with the appointment of the DoF, things are looking quite good. It may work, it may not but, for me, it’s a step in the right direction. Broughton seems to be a thinker with this akin to a more continental type of approach than we have previously been used to at Ewood. For me, that rules out Ainsworth with his type of football, Ferguson too and logically, you would think Knutsen would be next, given that the two of them have worked miracles at Bodø/Glimt.

Whether or not it works out is one thing but, credit where credit’s due, Waggott & Co seem to have done very well here, very well indeed. I think we can also agree that our academy has been a success here and this appointment should improve it even further. Wonder if Deila’s/Knutsen’s odds will shorten now?

Should have come with us Ossy. We all said we’d just have a few before the game but that went out the window as soon as we got to our hotel. By the time we had been in a few pubs on the Gallowgate, I was pretty much bladdered and I’ve regretted it ever since. Can’t remember a thing about the game. At the time, after the match, there seemed to be a distinct lack of pubs or eateries in the city centre (or at least we couldn’t find any) and we ended up in a Chinese in the early hours, after being refused entry to a couple of clubs. A great couple of days in good company, despite the defeat. -

Little bit unsure on Delia. Was ok at Celtic but only just ok, winning three of the six trophies on offer, during his two seasons there but without having Rangers in the same division. Don’t think Celtic fans were over impressed either. The pressure, I think, got to him and he stepped down after having won his second league title there. He was only 38 years old when he went to Scotland and will obviously be more experienced now. I would give him a 6 out of 10.

Uncle Jack, William Bancroft, Bill Fox, Alf Thornton and Peter White will be looking down with rightful contempt on the utter sh!t show that has become Blackburn Rovers. The calibre of our owners, through to senior employees at the club and on to those at the local ‘rag’, has been dumbed down to levels that previously would have not been thought possible. The bulk of our support should also take a good, long look at themselves in the mirror. The 95% that simply shrugged their shoulders when they could see the impending disaster that was about to unfurl. You reap what you sow.

It’s being done to death on the ‘reject manager’ thread. Do we really need another? -

I know it, Andy. Drove right through it last month, the day after the game, but didn’t realise that it was a Protestant area. -

I believe there is a Rangers pub, relatively close to Celtic Park, but I’ve never seen it. I used to go up to Celtic a fair bit in the 1980s with a lad from Chorley who was a keen Celtic supporter who had a soft spot for Rovers. I was the other way round. We always went in the Springfield Vaults, an absolute rough hole, on the corner of Springfield Road and London Road, two minutes from the ground. The regulars were spot on, though, and we never had or saw any bother. I was surprised to see that it was still there, when I went in April, but it looked in a sorry state. Once went up to Hampden for an evening semi final and went in what was an obvious Rangers pub before the game. We were made to take off any Celtic colours and were given them back on the way out. There was a real tension in the place and I was glad to sup up and get out of there. They’re a decent set of supporters these days and I don’t think that Rovers fans will have any problems, either inside or outside the ground. Wearing colours in the local pubs should be ok as well. -

Nothing yet on the Celtic website. For anyone driving up on the day, there should be ample free parking at the Forge Shopping Centre, which is just a quarter of a mile north of the stadium, off the Gallowgate. In April, I watched the Celtic v St Johnstone game and parked there. The Gallowgate is a long road, running east out of the city centre and finishes just beyond the Parkhead district, before becoming Tollcross Road. Plenty of decent pubs along its route. The stadium is roughly three miles east of the city centre, easily walkable from Glasgow Central, which is what our group did when we played Celtic in 2003. -
