I didn't want to sign Savage, I think we paid too much but now we have him I wonder if part of the problem he is trying too hard and that another part of the problem is he is not fully fit.

The ref has downgraded the red to a yellow.

Amoruso was only "effective" when he returned towards the end of his first season and Souness had developed a more defensive formation. I very much doubt if he could hack it in 4-4-2. Another player who I don't rate but might be a cb alternative is Matteo. -

I was disappointed when we signed him and I thought we paid too much for him by buying him in January.I continue to totally have no idea why we signed him but Scotty, whose opinions are often spot on, thinks he will turn out to be an excellent signing. -

[Archived] Premiership Final Table Prediction

Rovers fans seem a lot more optimistic than the experts who almost invariably have predicted a bottom half finish for us.And just wait till Jim gets going! -
Kimberley-if you were able to read Scotty's posting about the prospects for last season-which might have been kept in some archive within the messageboard- you would be able to read one of the very best postings ever on this board.Jim is also very good-but watch out for him winding you up.

I don't agree.

Would it be fair to sell him a defender who is coming back from injury and who is in the last year of his contract?

[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales

I think the figures are quite positive-it had sounded that they could have been a lot lower. I also think it's a brilliant opportunity for the club to go out and sell itself to those fans who have not renewed-" yes we appreciate the disappointments of the last three seasons, but isn't it worth giving us another go now we're playing our part by bringing in quality players" or something along silmilar lines. -
That was my reaction last week but then it sounded as though the fee was on the high side and the wages were stupid. Again.

[Archived] Stead Completes Sunderland Move
92er replied to LeChuck's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Last season Stead had loads of chances to score more than the 2 goals he achieved during the season. The only match he looked comfortable as a lone striker was Crystal Palace at home. The team is not strong enough defensively or in midfield to change from 4-5-1. Hughes has got £1.5million, maybe rising to £1.8. According to the LET he now has a transfer fun of £3-£4 million pounds. Maybe Stead will shake off his poor form.Maybe he will score a lot of goals. Maybe it was good business. -

[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales
92er replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
The LET yesterday said that Burnley are slightly up in their season ticket sales and that they are ringing up anybody who doesn't renew.I wonder if we'll do that.It also said that the phone calls produced quite a considerable number of people deciding to renew. -
He certainly did some good crosses for Shearer. A lot of fans didn't like the way he left the club, but the rumour I heard was that at the start of the season he left, he told the manager he was going to have to leave as he was getting married and his bride wouldn't leave London. It might seem a bit soft now but it seemed reasonable at the time!
-
My opinion is that we have seen nothing since his signing to suggest it was the right thing to do in January. He has missed a lot of games, when he has played he appears not to have been match fit and I still have my "headless chicken" image of him. If his fans, and there are many on this board,as well as Hughes, are right, I suspect we could have got a player who is likely to have no sell on value for a cheaper price in the summer.

Tony Kane 317217[/snapback] Lee-I thought the announcers said that Donnelly came on and the LET seemed to suggest he had replaced Kevin Hird.Did he not come on or did he play in a different position?
-
When Souness went there, Shepherd said that a transitional season would not be acceptable. The players were in place and success had to be achieved. He seems to have back-tracked.
-
I also thought it was great to see Kevin Hird. He looked as though he hadn't played for some time, but I really enjoyed watching a full back who could control the ball. I don't agree about Jonathan(you're having a laugh)Stead. On the way to the ground, I was listening to Radio Lancs who were interviewing Craig Short. He is not to be offered a new contract. It also sounded as though Nils-Eric will also not be offered one but that Amuroso will be staying.
-
I've bought my 2 tickets. In advance.
-
For cash. To give supporters the impression we're on the way up again. To help season ticket sales.
-
I seem to remember that in one testimonial-Noel Brotherston's?-some of the stupid fans in the Blackburn end booed Jimmy Quinn. I hope Alan Shearer gets a huge welcome back.
-
Mark Hughes said in the LET recently that nobody's position is secure for next season. It doesn't seem to have got through to the players.
