  1. I guess we’ll see.
  2. Nicked from Facebook but more proof that fans were right and Mowbray was wrong. We should have transferred Ben Benson and kept Raya with Walton in on loan as No 2 to push him and let Leutwiler forge a career elsewhere.
  3. I don’t see him retiring, he’s only 56!
  4. We are stuck with him for the foreseeable. He can’t simply walk away from the money. It’s a pretty defiant tone to say that he doesn’t feel he should need to justify his (failed) rotation policy. It will take the players to down tools and lose 10 games in a row to force the issue - but why would they? It’s easy street for them too. What I find odd is just how much Smallwood has fallen out of favour. He has been consistently poor at Championship level and yet consistently picked until some kind of terminal end to his involvement. A fall out or an automatic contract extension or pay rise after a number of games? The Adarabioyo mystery injury is still suspiciously like a contractual clause, maybe consecutive games triggering a payment to City. All very odd. Yet he remains bullish about his reasons for making 28 changes in half a dozen games. “Don’t question me”.
  5. Safety for fans leaving the ground on foot is paramount. Cars that manage to get away into the crowds are quite anti-social with passive aggressive clutch-down-revving-the-accelerator. One day someone will be knocked down. At £10 a game the club should be able to keep fans occupied for 20 minutes after the game to stop them being sat impatiently in their cars.
  6. He doesn’t believe in having a best XI. That much is clear. He thinks that picking whomever trains best for the next game is the way to achieve his goals. To hell with consistency and form - despite that being the root of his recent success. He needs to have a re-think. Interviews like this are exactly why I think he can’t take us any further.
  7. https://www.blackpoolfc.co.uk/news/2020/january/david-dunn-joins-coaching-staff/ WTAF??
  8. We have three central defenders; one of whom is on loan. We have no money to replace Lenihan, as, by the sounds, of it any money recouped has already been spent. Williams and Adarabioyo would not be my preference in a relegation battle.
  9. Just imagine selling Dack and then being told that the money had already been spent on those two! Probably as well he got injured! If we sell Lenihan then we are done.
  10. Under Mowbray, yes, we are a long way off but that is (and must be) the target “with the financial situation as it is”. A (new) financial situation that Mowbray has significantly contributed to by spending big while not improving our team with the money. Since our last embargo due to FFP we have been relegated and promoted while still posting huge losses. This certainly isn’t sustainable but we cannot afford to make such big mistakes in the transfer market. Not once (Brereton) but twice (Gallagher). Most managers would pay the price for that alone. This is such a tight division that the manager makes a big difference, certainly chasing that sixth spot. We are falling down the league but remain 4 points off the play-offs such is the congestion. Meanwhile players are edging towards the end of their contracts and we could be hit with a new embargo at exactly the wrong time. One thing is for sure, like Bowyer before him, Mowbray cannot get the right tunes from the players he now has to pick from. We are now in a position of hoping that we can avoid a death-spin run of form (like we had under Mowbray last season) and simply stay up. But then what? He will still be allowed to carry on again next season! Enough is enough. Last time we were here we had Jordan Rhodes to sell. This time our ace card is out shopping in the January sales rather than being part of them. Such a disappointing season and one that was so foreseeable based on what happened last season, and lack of improvement to the first team in the Summer. I expect we’ll still be hearing about one or two new faces needed ‘to help’ the ones we already have come June. We need a change of not now when some wheeling and dealing is needed then certainly in the Summer.
  11. I agree with more of this than I disagree with. I do think though that “Mowbray can keep us up” is damning with feint praise to say the least! The target is - and must be - top 6 or it is failure.
  12. Made me chuckle that (in a gallows humour way). I thought you meant he had very powerful headers that you wouldn’t want to get in the way of. Back in the day we called that a “Ten-Bob ‘ead”! (Even though I’m only old enough for 50ps)
  13. Cheers. Although I see him as a centre back, it surprises me that he was so poor at full back given his pace. I guess players don’t tend to run ‘at’ centre backs - if they know what’s good for them!
  14. And we won both games. He oils certainly add some depth to our defence. But it’s catch 22. You want him available as cover but you also want him getting valuable game time.
  15. Club? No, club would not want to be promoted to the PL...
  16. Even so, it would be very interesting to be a fly on the wall in the meetings, especially post-match, that I assume Johnson is party to...
  17. Hilton would be an improvement on both.
  18. That kind of this does go on - or did - usually from clubs who want to avoid increased costs. Not beyond the realms though.
  19. Since he came in we seem to have revolutions our training facilities. Someone posted an Instagram link. Is it a coincidence that has happened just after he stepped up. In any case, this is Mowbray’s team. How does Johnson influence who is picked and what the match tactics are? He can give his opinion but ultimately it is Mowbray’s decision. I will go off what I have seen with Johnson and the U23 side. He hasn’t suddenly stopped knowing how to set teams up. He built a team who played the game in the right way. Players like Rothwell, Holtby, Dack, Butterworth, Chapman would thrive in a side built in Johnson’s image rather than Mowbray’s.
  20. Frustrating is exactly the word I’d use.
  21. You’re new. This debate has been done again and again with different posters. They usually realise they are wrong but ignore the names put forward. Why would a manager come here? See the list of reasons I posted why Mowbray won’t walk. Blackburn Rovers is currently a manager’s dream job. Warnock applies last time!
  22. When Mowbray selected a consistent team we did well, and players like Adarabioyo were a part of that. When Dack was suspended, instead of keeping the team the sand and simply playing a different player in Dack’s role, he started meddling and hasn’t stopped since. We now look like we did when he used to meddle before the recent great, if short, spell. That’s no coincidence. We have gone from 5 wins in 6 to 1 win in 6 and are in free fall down the form table - and against teams that we should have been getting points from.
  23. The owners track record in recruiting managers is a close run competition with Mowbray’s track record of recruiting players. (Percentage-wise) We should not stick with mediocrity. We did exactly that with Bowyer and paid the price.
  24. It’s hardly new for people to come out with “We will never get better”. People even thought that about Owen Effing Coyle. It’s so weak, it can barely be called an argument. I would genuinely sooner have Johnson in charge. But there are certainly better managers out there. If we don’t trust Venkys to hire one then everything is an illusion and Mowbray is part of that so it’s a vicious cycle.
  25. Can’t see him walking. I’d bet he has never had it so good and never will again: - Autonomy - First class facilities - A CEO who is an ally - Financial backing (had) - Confidence of the owners (has) - Well compensated financially - No pressure despite £152m losses - Chops and changes players then blames them and no dissent whatsoever from matchday fans You can’t get that anywhere in football. What a job! What a life!
