  1. Hope his wage reflects his age/youth then and not his ability!
  2. See, you say this but it’s not really a fair position. Every manager needs time, and everyone coming into a declining club will struggle at first. Mowbray got us promoted at the first attempt and brought a bit of pride back but... - His stock was low when he arrived - He had a lot to undo from the previous regime - He persisted with existing players trying to get a tune out of them (he had to), including keeping Jason Lowe as captain (he chose to) - He ultimately FAILED in that he couldn’t prevent us being relegated (which was the reason for potting Coyle) Lambert is widely disliked on here but he brought in a good backroom team and players like Bennett and Graham - his reputation alone enabling that - and he managed to sell Jordan Rhodes without too much unrest, and ultimately stood up to Venkys. He has gone to some basket case clubs in recent times and probably needs a season in League One to reignite his own career - and Ipswich.
  3. Brilliant result for Accy that in terms of the coffers. Ordinarily I’d be arguing that tickets should be valid but punters got 75% of a very good football match which “finished” in a score draw. Record number of fans through the door and the replay will probably be the same. I’d be happy to pay twice if I was an Accy fan at that fixture.
  4. I’ll be honest as much as he gets a lot of love on here I’d be underwhelmed with him back. Especially if we do have money - as the Brereton signing suggests we do.
  5. Sorry, it was emojiless sarcasm based on the amount of shit Mahoney gets on here. Mowbray doesn’t play wingers and Mahoney would have gone the way of Tomlinson. IMHO.
  6. I agree with this but I think Mowbray prefers to make players earn their place and rewards work rate, as well as loyalty. This is a good way to build a culture at a club and I do think it is a good approach. The negatives though are that it can take a long time and potentially waste money on unsuitable recruits who can’t or won’t conform - or be patient (has Palmer developed into Chelsea’s next first teamed - or sale? Not really so they will likely place him elsewhere. Has he done it for us - or earned his place? Not really). It can also mean that we have a lower quality ‘core’ team, which will likeky lead to ‘WDL’ form. The Championship is a much stronger division than it was 10 years ago, 5 years even, and it is getting stronger every season - especially if relegated teams don’t bounce back up first or second time. It is harder and harder to compete with the top 10 based on parachute income and turnover. We don’t even have the ‘12th man effect’ because on the evidence so far Waggott doesn’t believe that filling the ground is a priority. Without money, and/or an A list manager (with respect), time is of the essence and if we do have money to spend then Mowbray’s slowly-slowly approach may end up taking us to the same place that we went under Bowyer: an honest team but, ultimately, nearly-men. As a minimum we need a statement of intent in January. Reed signed permanently by making an offer that Hasenhüttl can put towards bringing in his own men. I expect he will have one or two hidden gems that he knows about that others don’t. (Our recruitment only goes as far as Dover). Brereton turning into the player we were expecting post-Forest-deal. And an experienced Championship player or two added to the first XI: a partner for Mulgrew and a replacement for an aging Conway. We remain tantalisingly close to the play-offs. We don’t expect promotion but at the same time it shouldn’t stop us aiming high or thinking big.
  7. If only Mahoney had stayed, we’d be playing a completely different way now.
  8. His absence has to be financial (during the loan period), surely? Anything else would be to criticise Mowbray or our scouting team - or bring suggestions of him being a Rao purchase not a Rovers one. I guess we will find out once he is signed permanently...
  9. Always frustrating when the game opens up as an opportunity and we don’t capitalise. No doubt we’ll have folk saying “great point away from home” but you have to take your chances when they present themselves. Fallen another place in the table with Stoke winning. We may be glad of that decent start by the time the season ends. That said, still only 4 points off the play-off shows how tight a league this is. It’s a result we’d all have taken at 3pm but I expect Mowbray will be disappointed this evening.
  10. Pretty strong bench that. It is devoid of Rovers youngsters breaking through though.
  11. I think that’s a good shout. The PL took on the FA and won. They should be able to step over Team Wembley.
  12. How long until the semi finals are held abroad?
  13. We’ll have to agree to disagree. In my view Mahoney would have been back in the reserves or out on loan. The games he played were when his contract was running down and Mowbray wanted him to sign a new deal. Same thing happened with Nuttall. He got a real sustained first team run and signed a new contract. Then as soon as one of Mowbray’s signings was fit again he was dropped despite being in form. ‘Too cautious’ is being very kind in my view.
  14. The ages of each are very similar. This was part of the point. Barely worth mentioning? That would have had to have bee your opinion of Mahoney if he had stayed. He would have been back in the ressies under Mowbray. We know this because it has happened to everyone else. The only exception is Nyambe who had already established himself before Mowbray arrived.
  15. I’ve given you some researched detail which shows it wasn’t the wrong move. He is a more established Championship player than anyone Mowbray has taken a look at.
