  1. Precisely! And they’d probably find they enjoyed the local experience - if they actually went!
  2. You can’t put Seaman in the same bracket as Hart and Green!
  3. In Cornwall and there was a kid with a shitty “Burnley in Europe” t-shirt on yesterday. Both he and his mum had southern accents! Amazing what being in the PL does for a club’s attraction from the floating/glory/underdog/generic/“football” fan! Venkys Out!
  4. @JHRover standing isn’t ‘allowed’ anywhere in all-seater stadia. Clubs continue to ignore the demand for ‘safe standing’ and effectively are force to turn a blind eye to mass standing - often with more people than allocated seats which creates its own issue. However, sadly, many fans cannot be trusted to stick to any rules that are applied or even requested (e.g. please stay off the pitch) so the chances of progress here is small. Although I’m a fan of the idea of safe standing in specified areas, and there is a market for it, if offered German style seating then some fans would simply stand three people where there should only be two. It’s always a minority who ruin things for everyone - largely because no one ever deals with individuals they simply apply draconian measures that affect everyone so there is no deterrent. People who choose to stand or ‘sit where they like’ at away games epitomise the lack of respect for rules. Nobody will trust these people with anything which requires a bit of responsibility. For anyone standing up, start from the person nearest to the front/aisle and remove them from the stand. Then move to the next person and so on. Start dealing with those who don’t have respect for the rules. Maybe then there can be dialogue and consultation with those who do.
  5. Hate waiting for the new kit. Always mock ups doing the rounds, some of them great, and the real thing will never be as good as the best of the rumour ones. The design must be known months ago. Don’t know why they don’t just put it out there as soon as the season finishes, and squash all the rumours early, rather than wait for player photo shoots.
  6. Depends on what is meant by strengthen. Some think it is enough that we upgrade the bench. For me, we need to upgrade the starting XI and have the shoe-instgis season fighting for a place. And I include the potentially distracted Dack in that.
  7. You think that with our current squad we are good enough for the Championship? I too think that people’s expectations are being distorted by our season in League One but in the opposite way to you. It is going to be a lot harder this time out. The opposition are stronger but the impact on players will be harder too. Mulgrew, Graham and even Lenihan will have their fitness tested far more. We need to upgrade our better players and not be reliant on those three. If they were out, we simply don’t have the replacements. We have no strength in depth anywhere but midfield and even that isn’t Championship standard.

  9. The current PL top 6 and any 14 others from 7 to 44 is the PL in any given season.
  10. That’s a pretty useful squad right there.
  11. Ex players top have a history of doing well at Rovers. I think they capture the imagination. Not sure Lampard has the acumen though. Managers don’t seem to need to prove themselves any more.
  12. You are looking at the Championship through a League One lens.
  13. How can we have the players for 3-5-2 if we need to buy/loan 2 players to make it work? I’m very concerned if Mowbray sees 3-5-2 as the future (which he seems to) as it requires three quality centre backs and 2 quality wing backs. We have one out of five - and his fitness is suspect at this level. And Lenihan has it all to prove in the Championship as a centre half. Potential 2/5 if Bell is up to it. I would put Bell in the undecided group as well. Has pedigree but odd that he made L1 team of the year yet he can’t get into the side ahead of a very average left back in Williams.
  14. Taking and missing that penalty seemed to be a turning point for him. Shame really. He seemed decent but he needed to be ready and consistent. He isn’t a young lad (in football terms) so won’t get time anywhere now. Needs to find his level and play regularly. Not convinced it’s at Rovers. From the very brief interaction I had with him, he seemed like a really nice, honest guy. Wish him well.
  15. I think a year is long enough to get a view. He wasn’t getting into a very poor Rovers side who got relegated. I never like bringing back players - although I did like the phonetic link!
  16. I’m sure he had a personal point to prove against us but look where Oldham are. Maybe he has found his level? I’d be very surprised if he came back and did anything for us in the Championship.
  17. You can’t write off what Nolan did this season on the back of one game, surely? And the same Jack Byrne who has already been with us and spent most of his time warming up on the touchline? Or have I missed a subtle spoof post?
  18. Well you are barking up the wrong tree aiming your ‘questioning of motives’ at anyone on here. They’ve lived through. YOU however have suddenly appeared post promotion. Ironic, no?
  19. Let me save you the heartache: they do. They just express it differently than you. Stick around and soak it up - eventually you’ll learn to enjoy the differences. For instance, a lot of people get mad at JAL. Personally I dig that he has these opinions. It’s also notable that he always stays classy with replies.
  20. Agreed. They were basically the same player.
  21. Disagree. He was foisted out on the left wing most of the time that he even got a look in. Beckham Lampard Gerrard... ooh, erm, well fit Scholes in somewhere. The irony is that his lack of inclusion probably made him the player he was at United.
  22. When you have that kind of group, the final piece is having a manager who is prepared to make tough decisions about the players he needs to drop to get the best XI. No England manager ever dared to drop Lampard or Gerrard to play Scholes where he could have dictated play. Lampard and Gerrard should have been competing for one spot not two.
  23. Supporting the team/club and supporting the manager are distinctly separate things. Of course fans are going to pass judgement on things, that’s not something exclusive to Rovers fans, but fundamentally it’s because they have the club at heart.
  24. I feel like there is a whooshing noise but I’m not sure if it’s for you or me!
