  1. Read the conversation back. You provided a link in reply to my not seeing anyone talk about Mowbray's dignity. The daft thing is that I was actually backing your point.
  2. A post-fact era? Describing a manager's achievements as "not being sacked after relegation" and by "topping the table... at Christmas"? Seriously? I think, as long as you are quoting facts to back your argument, just stick with "he saved Coventry from dropping into the fourth tier". But just remember that your benchmark, according to many people on here, is that Paul Lambert got Norwich promoted to the Championship and the to the Premier League and "he's crap" so it's not really saying much.
  3. Christ almighty. Rovers manager wears tie in the colours of the team's arch rivals and it's not allowed to be mentioned on a @#/? Rovers messageboard! Please please never offer to spend time in my presence, Joe. I'd need an advance list of taboo topics and a menu of subjects that meet your sensibilities.
  4. ^This is a typical BRFCS post. In the pub, it'd be... "Did you see Mowbray wearing that claret and blue tie?" "Aye, not the best choice really. Did you see Zlatan's elbow?" On here there's at least two pages of follow-up by rubber-neckers foaming at the mouth screaming "IT PROBABLY WASN'T THAT COLOUR AT ALL. IT WAS PROBABLY A ROVERS 100 CLUB TIE. ANYWAY WTF DOES IT MATTER WHAT COLOUR HIS TIE IS???? GET BEHIND THE TEAM / MANAGER / CLEANERS FFS!!!!!! Just let things drop. Jeez.
  5. Erm that's the point. It sure looked claret and blue on TV.
  6. According to this... http://www.onaverage.co.uk/money-averages/average-premier-league-salary ...that's less than your average League Two player. But as a strategy it isn't even consistent with the previous money spinning idea of growing our own talent and selling them for big money. To let Mahoney walk for a compensation deal would be very bad business as well as bad for the team and the fans. Hope you're wrong Dunn. Having just signed Raya they need to be prioritising talks with Mahoney this week. £3k per week is peanuts in football terms.
  7. As Rovers fans, this is the good bit, Gav. It lasts about 9 months and is preceded by 2-3 years of misery. Enjoy it while it last FFS.
  8. Sorry, still can't see the word dignity anywhere in there to describe him. Meanwhile... http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/16284988
  9. Interesting that. I must have missed the papers and TV shouting about how dignified he was. Maybe they changed the meaning since I went to school.
  10. Even the missus spotted that! Poor form but at least we've got a manager with a claret tie trying to keep us up rather than a claret with no tie managing only to send us down.
  11. Get the feeling the site has been infiltrated by a band of WUMs? It's a shame they didn't migrate to RoversTalk or the LT comments section. That would have been much more up their street.
  12. I don't mind admitting that I jumped the gun with Mowbray. He has won me over and is the right man for the club right now. I still think the Burton game was 2 points dropped, and I still think that once the new manager bounce wears off we need a better captain than Lowe, but right now he has the players organised, drilled and motivated. Long may it continue and I hope, if (and it's still an if) he keeps us up, that they find a way to back him in the Summer.
  13. Ha! Hindsight. When you call it before it happens everyone calls you negative and says, and I quote, "give him a chance FFS". Oh, and I was one of those saying the squad he had should be in the play-offs and we needed better than a 'steady manager' before it was too late. Guess what #1? I was told I was negative and to "get behind him FFS". Guess what #2? When he failed people talked about hindsight. I guess we are going to have to go through most of the last 6 years with you after all.
  14. There's hope for you yet. Now about debunking that 'gospel truth'...?
  15. Still giving you the benefit of the doubt, help me out then. What is your example that you know to be untrue but is repeated on here as gospel?
  16. I think it's fair to say that people haven't taken to you on here yet. Part of the reason is posts like the above. They ignore discussions and scenarios played out over a long long time on here. You say you've been reading for three years. You should be well versed in much of this stuff but you don't show it. For instance, FFP is widely felt to be an excuse - one of many - for Venkys not to put their hand in their pocket and reverse the decline they caused. We are the only club in this division who are as badly affected as we are. Nobody else comes close. Spending carries on, there are plenty of loop holes. We have seen plenty of 'proof' of a different agenda by those in charge of the club. There is a reason that this place is not like the official board or RoversTalk or LT comments. It's because things which put the club in a bad light are discussed, argued about, or chosen to be ignored, or in some cases beyond the intellect of those reading (not a dig at you), but they are not hidden or removed by admin. It's one of the reasons that this site has consistently been the busiest and best Rovers fan site. Some of that approach is changing sadly due to the current admin approach but most of this stuff survives. If it were untrue, it would be removed. But we have lived through years of this so don't expect not to get a hard time when you are posting things which in some cases have been well-trodden facts, the proof buried in these pages, and in some cases racking up old wounds and arguments. Please try to remember this and post more wisely. Maybe even give the board stalwarts the benefit of the doubt rather than short shrift.
  17. Are we really up to 7 years now? Frightening in more than one way.
  18. Good post. I would add that one of the further problems with such an arrangement are when players are brought in for reasons aside from their importance to the team and how the manager wants to play. For instance, they are the only players available for no transfer fee/low % wages or they happen to be from a particular agency - and need to be moved to generate income for agents. There is a high profile exception to this in recent times in Swansea (possibly Southampton to an extent) where there is a ethos at the club about the way they want to play and they bring in coaches and players who will be part of that ethos. They also happen to have the fans as part of the ethos by way of their supporters' Trust involvement. I'm far from convinced any decision at Rovers is taken with the fans in mind, and I'm not convinced that players are brought in for the good of the team. More wingers that we can shake a stick at, yet no right back and not midfield general. Gaping holes in the squad season after season, window after window, and "head coach" after manager.
  19. The only place I can find this unsubstantiated rumour is a post in the LT by a (notorious) dingle. Not sure how to check but if the rumour is true then nothing has changed. That said, such is the size of the stain on football caused by agents in general, we either ignore it or become the football club equivalent of Mike Newell. Oh, to be a normal football club.
  20. Quoted the wrong post! No idea how that happened...!
  21. This season we've done he double over Newcastle? Well crack open the champagne! Take a look at the league table, that double you are so pleased about looks to have given Coyle more weeks than he should have had. The same time that would have been bloody useful to his successor. But still: 'that double, eh?'
