I've been impressed. Rovers youngsters have grown into the game. Had a couple of chances with good crosses. Always going to be second best on paper and still a tough 45 minutes to go but they've done very well.

I don't want to write off an alleged bad egg before he's kicked a ball (under a manager who can't handle bad eggs) but if they are the kinds of players he is placing stock in, I fear that we are going to go backwards even further before we can think about moving forwards. Being honest, give me a mercenary like Souness, Hughes or Allardyce any day - rather than a fan who does his best.

This is the problem though, only trying to develop the early developers is to the detriment of smaller players. By the time those players who looked good when they simply had a physical advantage are caught up by the rest it's too late. Then clubs complain about the lack of talent and buy youth from abroad. Not enough is done by professional clubs to develop youngsters and bring them through. They rely on community volunteers with minimal training, time and budgets then cherry pick the stronger ones, only to dump them later. Clubs should be investing far more in properly developing young talent.
