  1. Not saying Macca are blameless but the way the EFL hand kit punishment would be ‘inconsistent’ if it weren’t for the fact that they appear to favour ‘bigger’ clubs. On one hand: QPR, Birmingham, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby On the other: Bury, Bolton, Wigan, Macclesfield Anyone notice a trend?
  2. No money? I honestly don’t get this argument as a defence of Mowbray.
  3. They do. They just call them saucers Terry.
  4. Imagine cherry picking the facts to make Rovers current slump times seem like something to be proud of. No. Nay. Never. Ten years after Jack passed away we were a top flight team. We are here now because of Venkys.
  5. This is the football journey. Players come, players go. All part of the proverbial rich tapestry. The danger is when sentiment trumps logic and players stay longer than they should. The club suffers and the player suffers. A great servant during his short time at the club and his contribution in L1 should not be underestimated. We needed him and he needed us. However, he should have gone last season when we may have received a fee from a L1 side. Instead, his ‘loyalty contract’ will have made him unaffordable, even subsidised. Too many players leave this club at the end of their contracts or are even paid to go. Clubs who are scrimping and saving need to be more savvy in the transfer market. Signing a Dack or selling an Armstrong papers over the cracks of waste.
  6. Infamous at this point! I’m guessing people thinks it means ‘languid’. It sounds like it should.
  7. This supposed scouting network we have is a joke.
  8. All this does is encourage those clubs to become farms for the bigger clubs. Which all fine until you are the club being picked off - and thanks to EPPP you can’t even name your price.
  9. There is no argument, it’s Nicko. More scoops than an ice cream van at a Bank Holiday car boot sale.
  10. Where do you think Nicko heard it from? ?
  11. It’s interesting it. It can surely only apply to new contracts so some clubs will have a short term advantage. In effect though, it’s stopping players being able to earn more unless they get to the Championship. Is that a restriction of trade? Or is it the same as every other industry? Wage levels all over the world reflect the money going into the industry. It’s the exact same argument for why men and women don’t get paid the same for “the same job”. Driving a taxi for the general public or driving a rolls Royce Royce for a billionaire are effectively “the same job” functionally. It’s certainly been the divide between the 1st and 2nd tiers for a while now. Maybe L1/L2 standards (on the pitch) will go up as players with ambitions to earn more will have to move up, rather than move to a club recently relegated or being bank rolled. However, it further increases the gap between the haves and the have-nots. It will be interesting too to see how this plays out in the Championship. I can see a split between two camps: ambitious clubs who have had (and therefore need) PL football and those who haven’t. The full European Super League and/or a two tier PL and/or three tier EFL probably needs to come in to address the current imbalance.
  12. There are only coincidences in Venky world. There is certainly no plan. As soon as you think they have turned a corner (Lambert/Irvine/Kelly —> Warnock) they follow up with a clanger (Coyle).
  13. Not played a game for Leicester and has been loaned to Rotherham and Oldham but yeah an “expensive loan” to Rovers. Another novice with potential to cut his teeth at Rovers while learning his trade from a laptop. If we aren’t going to get an experienced first choice keeper the we may as well give Fisher and Hilton the job of one and two, and promote Eastham to U23 keeper. This Summer is the opportunity for an overhaul. That has to start with the gk coach and bringing in a seasoned stopper. I’d sooner give the loan fee money to Joe Hart for a season than on a 23yo - at least he will be able to share his experience with the youngsters. Instead Mowbray will prefer a novice. Unless you get extremely lucky (I.e. promotion) loaning someone else’s 23yo keeper is absolutely no use at all. If he’s good he goes back and we start again. If he’s bad then we suffer, not his parent club.
  14. Not entirely sure but I’ll bet it’s battered and deep fried.
  15. The “stupid protesters” were afraid of exactly what is happening to our club, happening. Shame not enough people cared then. These dark times ahead are where a loyal and committed fanbase would rally to support the club. Instead those same fans who snub, nay blame, the protests will likely just walk away: “Yer av aw-ways supported Stanley me. Born in Gret ‘Arwood ye know”.
  16. Back to the days of Ford Capris and semis but now it’ll be Ferraris and mansions. Jimmy Hill will be spinning in his... sponsor-funded washing machine!
  17. He just couldn’t take any more...
  18. Good point. Especially as we’ve now got another Bowyer on charge!
  19. That’s interesting but disingenuous. If we can get Dack for £250k (I thought it was £750 but ok) and Arma for £1.75m then we should be able to get BETTER players than even them for 6 times the amount paid not worse. Arma and Dack should not be the maximum we can expect - we should always be aiming to improve the quality, not increase the depth. Lest we forget that is exactly what got us relegated (twice). Netting off money wasted because of a couple of bargains (on the basis of current form in the case of Arma) is defeatist. We have precious little budget as it is and while sacking Mowbray for wasting a huge amount of money would be reasonable in other industries (and at most other clubs, frankly), looking for an angle to absolve him is nonsense.
  20. It’s like this every year. We moan we have money issues but don’t get STs or shirts on sale until the last minute. People want shirts before they go on holiday not after. If selling cheap products at top dollar is the only way then it has to be at the right time.
  21. Probably. It just looks cheap and nasty. It’s like someone has knocked off our iconic blue-and-white halves, and then has the cheek to offer it back to the club! And our lot lap it up because it’s cheap - and of course “committed fans”, “proper fans” will buy it anyway.
  22. Quite fancy buying a shirt this year. Hope they aren’t shit again. Home and away have been crap for years. The sooner we ditch Umbro and their cheap-not-cheap generic stock the better.
  23. I’d have been happier if we’d have kept Raya and sold Ben Benson.
