I just don’t get how that stops interference. Club A bids £700,000 whilst club B is only willing to pay the compensation fee. He talks to both clubs (as is his right) and if he chooses B they just pay the compensation figure.

A club could sign him and pay much less under the EPPP compensation scheme. This sets a fixed fee based on time spent at (and the category of) an academy. His fee under this would be around £40,000-£60,000 (not sure how part years count). Why a club would pay far more than they have to for him 🤷‍♂️
