  1. Just to add to my earlier reply to @arbitro When a player is sold, any remaining book value is amortised. This makes it possible for an accounting loss to incur even when selling a player for a fee. (If the fee is lower than the remaining book value).
  2. I believe the frequency of instalments is whatever the two clubs agree (as part of the transfer negotiations) it should be.
  3. Most, if not all, football clubs use accrual accounting for revenue (income) - this means it appears in the accounts when it is ‘earned’ as against when it is actually paid to them. The other option ‘cash accounting’ would mean the fees appearing in the accounts ‘as and when’ they were received by a club.
  4. When we sign a player the transfer fee (plus agent fee etc) becomes that player’s book value and is shown as an asset on the balance sheet. That book value is then amortised (depreciated) over the term of the player’s contract - this annual figure is an expense and contributes towards the loss (or reduces the profit!) for that year. For example if the cost of the player was £1 million and he joined on a four year deal then the annual expense attributed to him would be £250,000 If a player signs a contract which extends his stay at the club then the depreciation figure is adjusted to take account of this. I hope that makes sense!
  5. Derek And The Dominos - Layla
  6. The whole transfer fee appears in the accounts in the year the player is sold so will have offset losses as Chaddy (almost) said. Of course, cash flow is a whole different animal…
  7. I don’t think so (not as part of the ownership test anyway) There are requirements under FFP regarding future years but these are (I believe) a completely separate thing.
  8. The Venkys London accounts has the figure being £4.76 million. It doesn’t indicate whether this includes the entirety of the summer window (but it definitely relates only to the summer window)
  9. Fourth England manager to get one. Personally I’d scrap the whole system, but I’m sure that isn’t for this thread 😬
  10. He’s probably one of the very few who wouldn’t pass it. Hardly an endorsement mind - it needs a total overhaul. For a start it should be an ongoing test, not a one off ‘time of purchase’ thing.
  11. Gary Neville’s prediction of Man U finishing above Liverpool is starting to look sketchy.
  12. No, doing the first offers no guarantees for the second.
  13. I haven’t had that pleasure, but I have watched English tier seven football - maybe that’s similar 😄
  14. As someone who is from nowhere near Blackburn I’d be a hypocrite if I made you send it back. I was just curious as to whether Chaddy’s opinion stretched to international football too.
  15. I’d be intrigued to know the other choices on the ‘Gueye list’
  16. I didn’t mean to imply it was his fault. If it does turn out he’s shit at his job (too early to say) this would just be another symptom of the Venky disease.
  17. Oh I’m sure it’s a forlorn hope.
  18. Nope, I’m not sure how you could have drawn that conclusion from what I said 🤷‍♂️
  19. Shows how low the bar had dropped - let’s hope it is raised soon!
  20. Or have an opinion based on ‘windows to date’ but be willing to change said opinion based on future windows?
  21. Brought up in the hot bed of football (Buckinghamshire 😁😁) and was a (deep breath) childhood Liverpool fan (don’t reach for the ban button yet!) I was a huge huge Kenny Dalglish fan and was devastated when he quit ‘them’ One day I was looking on teletext and the headline was about Kenny joining Rovers - I thought who the fuck are they (sorry! 😳😳) I looked into this, and the first thing I loved was the kit - I started watching them at the pub (the only Rover fan there) - and that’s how it all started. When I was looking for what to do after Further Ed college I saw an advert in the paper for the next level of course at … Blackburn College. So I moved 200 miles from home and started attending matches regularly (and college occasionally 😁😁)
  22. I daren’t mention where I was born/was brought up (however I will confirm it wasn’t Burnley) 😁😁
  23. Could I choose to support (say) Spain despite being English?
  24. I’m hoping I’ve not jinxed it 😬😬
