Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?
tomphil replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Pears is a cheap second choice keeper who doesn't play regularly but showed he was ok as that in a few league games. Then v Wigan he showed exactly why he's a second choice but lets not forget Raya in all this. Young keepers make cock ups and so do some of the better ones but we'd all feel better with better back up i think. -
And this is where it gets tricky ! You can bet your last dollar there are agents on the blower to Suhail and Balaji saying my man Nige will do it cheaper than Carlos. And you can keep the existing staff. We've been here before, this is a real watershed moment and my money is still on a random 30-1 shot.

What Does Next Season Have In Store ?

Do i get a special badge ? -
I'd rather have a bash at it for a couple of seasons with this fella than embark on another journey to nowhere. As long as they don't let him go stupid with money and wages where is the harm in it. If he was under a DOF he wouldn't be changing much in the background it would be case of concentrate on the the first 11. Try and get the best you can out of what we have and bring in a few decent players to help that. A guy like this should be able to operate in similar circumstances to what Mowbray did if there was a bit of a budget. Can always go back to the steady guy or young coach route if it doesn't work out.

Mr Waggot needs a one way ticket off this gravy train the guy has overseen a year on year decline in ST sales after hiking prices year on year. All our local rivals seem to have been cutting prices and selling more, some of them in the same division with smaller fanbases and problems of their own. Surely being a failure in this very important dept is a sackable offence ?

I think it's typical of people of this ilk to be all over it when something good happens but completely ignore it when things aren't going well. So it would be the same in front of their friends they just wouldn't mention the club and just boast about something else and i doubt he was any different. When i spoke to him briefly and politely albeit pointing out the mess i can assure you there was no concern or contrition. His answer was my family have shown they can afford to fund the club so nobody should worry. When i pointed out people were concerned about what was going on on the pitch and the managerial situation he seemed completely non plussed. Attitude was very much we've got the money and we'll get it right. Then i was blocked. This was a long time ago and maybe he has more of a grasp of it now but i wouldn't be too sure. I think if it was his own money he'd certainly have a different take on it that's for sure.

Not sure he'll have buzzed about the club for 11 years i bet he's never been here more than a couple of times. I remember his facebook page years ago had the Rovers badge on it but most of the football talk amongst him and his pals was Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man Yoo etc. We are just a toy in a large and diverse playroom.

Always thought he was a handy player to have around Tom Lawrence but i remember hearing at the time there was a bit of the old billy big bollocks going on. It was under Bowyers tenure though were a lot of players were taking the piss and always on it. -
Gibson at Boro probably does and the guy who set Huddersfield on the right path a few yeas ago, Hoyle i think it was. There are a few around especially lower down the scale but it's by no means a guarantee of success. Many are hampered by lack of enough finance or inherited debts. That's not really been the case here it's been a lack of common sense and making the correct effort to get to grips with what they are actually doing with the club. Too much personal wealth to cover mistakes without batting an eyelid, too much arrogant aloof assumption that the Indian business/family way is the only way to run an English football club. Too much relying on just praying and paying that'll it'll just come right of it's own accord. And of course too many snouts in the trough and wrong tongues i right arseholes. Common football sense needed in head office now to build on what is here and a director on the board who preferably knows the club and town. Two things that shouldn't be impossible to attain for billionaires with any semblance of a plan for the club.

Like i said earlier got to give him a chance and see what he's all about it won't take long to suss him out. It's not going to happen though they aren't going to let him be the whipping boy for the past 12 years. If he does get involved it'll be from a safe distance and the local press will be told what they can and can't ask.

The fact it's a big city compared to Blackburn not withstanding Bradford did heavily discounted STs years ago. Once you get them back in you can work on keeping as many as possible. We have a starting point of one of the smallest catchment areas alongside one of the most deprived boroughs in the country. Heap in year on year price rises and a perceived lack of genuine ambition before last season and it's not hard to see why we are still struggling. Burnley are retaining a lot of their Prem support, they will do for a while and so would we if they'd potted Kean. Wigan and Bowton alongside Blackpool are just off the back of their best seasons in years.
