He was crap. A rare ball dropped there by KD but at least he didn't try and shoehorn him in just to try and justify the signing.

Great win and decent performance. Great credit for keep plugging away when it would have been easy to get nervous and frustrated. thought they did a good job of drawing them out a bit second half a creating a bit more space behind. Dolan is such a livewire it's good to see but he and a few others in that forward line need some serious coaching in the art of releasing passes quicker. Too many trying too much and being greedy we'd make it easier for ourselves to create if they got their passes off to teamates. Probably get tanked next week but hopefully a few more performances like this afterwards will keep us in the mix.

I was quite pleased when they signed him for 3 mill rising to 5 i thought he had a lot to offer. Not that i would have signed him if the money was there as we desperately needed strength elsewhere. Still think he has plenty attributes but since hes been back we've probably played 3 different styles. He's been deployed mainly to do the same thing in every one of them, just gallop about wide right. Occasionally coming inside and losing the ball or making a good tackle. I think to do that job it really didn't need 5 million and 15 grand pwk (min) spending. It'd be unfair to say he hasn't contributed this season but we are back to square one again now.

When he's been in the team because hes a workhorse and that's his job then as you say trying to get goals hasn't been a priority. Now it is the lad has no idea how to get himself where he should be regularly to get on the end of stuff and even less idea how to finish. He's just spent the last 3 years basically being like a defensive wide forward and presumably training that way everyday. Sadly though having a big rough center forward/target man/battering ram doesn't fit this fabled Mowbray 'footballing way'. The one millions of Sky viewers have seen not score one goal in the last 5 games and lose to ten men twice. The one that until this first half of the season has had us firmly going nowhere for several years.

Wasn't the one win 17 or whatever it was some sort of unwanted record as well ? These spectacular fall aways he has at most clubs hes been at cannot all be coincidence or down to the type of club. For me he's not too bad in the transfer market but his biggest fault is not addressing glaring issues when he can due to over loyalty, to what he already has. That seems a very common theme with him.

Is it only me who thinks Gallagher has got progressively worse football wise since hes been back here ? Never great but he's the shadow of the guy who was on loan here in a really poor side. Always works hard these days but they've literally just turned him into a workhorse. If they'd made him a battering ram up top from the get go instead of winger/wide striker i'm sure he'd be a lot better.

0-0 at best.

We have a track record of just bringing bodies in....all through this ownership. What we need is the odd specialist or luxury player to compliment the hard work and youth of the team. Think Daniel Ayala but an up front version. Failing that even a lower league striker or journeyman who has form for finding the net. We aren't hunting for the next Shearer we just desperately needed someone to help out in the box. Not around it but actually in it ! -

Only one person to hold accountable for that, some might argue it did work once over but it clearly hasn't for a long time now. How long ago is it the debate about Buckley not being capable of false 9 started ? The Gallagher one has been going on ever since he set foot in the door with virtually no evidence it works. It's ridiculous really but we know Mowbrays blind spots by now so as long as he is here and those players are the same thing will happen. Never get promoted with him, drop like a stone without him - that seems to be the split of opinion. -

That forms part of the valid argument with the Markanady signing obviously being another for the future to polish. To most the eyes and the money should have been on the present and what we really needed right now. Being totally honest at this stage of his career with very little if any pro experience he'd have been another Khadra / Povenda hit and miss player. If they put all their eggs in that basket they've learned nothing. However midtable comfort zone developing players suits this management and structure far better than where we managed to get to, that's obvious. -

He was backed to bring 4 players in in January, that doesn't happen here very often. Might as well have brought non in for the good its done so far. -

I'm sick of seeing people holding up the Spurs lads injury as a reason we've no striker. It's as daft as the 'we'd have made the play offs with Dack' myth the other year. We signed 4 squaddies again this Jan and not one of them has had any impact. The chance was there to put this window to better use but they just used it to fill out the squad again. That is having a bearing on this bad run make no mistake, just when the team needed a boost it hasn't got it. Just because we've unexpectedly over achieved this season doesn't give them the right to blow it like this and escape being questioned on it. We are back to being Mowbrays standard Rovers now make no mistake, absolutely zero idea or direction how to deal with these type of scenarios. -

Yep and all we really needed was a decent striking option up top just to try and complete the jigsaw. Like i said before though our premium signing is Gallagher and TM will play that right sided forward fiddle until he finally gets a tune out of it. I refuse to believe these owners wouldn't have backed him had he wanted to go down the loan route of a striker. I don't think he wanted to, they looked at Maja and probably a few others but option B (TMs favoured option) would always have been multi positional squaddies. Giles and Zefuik i can understand but Hedges ? Just one for ones sake i think. People go on about FFP as an excuse not to spend but there's a few quid tied up in those 4 signings in terms of wages, fees and signing on. -
Attendances: A cause for concern

Ref - Yeah clear the snow i'st only an inch and it hasn't been freezing so it should be fine. 1hr later Ref- Have you cleared it all yet ? Er, not quite. Give us another 45 mins. Ref - ffs! Didn't you make plans for this the weather forecast was there for all to see. We're doing all we can ! Ref - Right i need to test it at 2.15 at the latest the i can get home fore my tea for once if it's off. 2.15 - it's just about ready. Ref - Look at the state of it underneath i was expecting better, it's off. Oh, we're going to get some stick for this, it's all your fault you barsteward in black !!! -
Thing is with Gerrard he come across as single minded and driven i bet he can be ruthless. He was a hard competitor on the pitch and despite all the media fluff and love that gets poured on Liverpool he could be a nasty git when needed. Unlike Lampard i don't think he's too bothered if everyone likes him outside of his club. Strikes me that's the kind of things you need to be a decent manager. How he is tactically iv'e no idea though but he isn't in the pub league now so it's a new learning curve.

They rushed him a bit last time by the looks of it when TM was under a bit of pressure so i doubt they'll make the same mistake. We need a fit and firing Dack next season whatever league we end up in. Rovers SHOULD have got in proper striking additions in Jan. -
It was better than struggling every season obviously and we needed a bit of stability. Have to say though it was probably the most boring period in all my time watching Rovers. You could predict what was going to happen virtually every game and we seemed to draw all the time. That's why it was so frustrating to see it creep back similarly with Mowbrays sideways and backwards experiment.
-
That doesn't mean we shouldn't try and improve on it or him because recently hes been ineffective there. Not just the odd game either its been going on quite a while.

Masters football returns

Probably just down to who asks first for most of them, then again it maybe agents and fees dictating 🙄 -
He has looked good when hes dropped back a bit in games hes spread some nice passes around.
-
I'd like to see Hedges given a start in his proper position to see what he can do. Maybe in a home game rather than away.
-
Yep if Bucko was a proper false 9 instead of a midfielder being played there we probably wouldn't need these debates.
-
BBD was out on his feet before he even went to his last Chile call up so at some point he needed rest and he needed help on the pitch. I think we've seen the pressure on his shoulders recently his body language has shown frustration. The forwards haven't been scoring them though have they and the evidence always suggested they wouldn't it's more hope than planning. Even Mowbray seems to think if he says they need to step up they will, he's been in football long enough to know it rarely works like that. Pecking order is a fair point to mention as there is an elephant in the room there in the shape of big Sam G, he's very high in the order. I'm not as down on him as some are but again it's like TM and the rest of us are just praying he hits a run of scoring. So in my opinion in order to give us the best chance of keep competing at the top something should have been done that resembles something with a bit of scoring pedigree.
-
They aren't strikers or have any previous between them for notching. One is a punt on another youngster for the future the other is just another squad player. Maybe playing a forward in his forward position would help !!! So i stand by my point we have no other strikers in the entire club with any sort of scoring ability and that's poor. I don't know why you cherry pick Mitrovic as your example he's a luxury player only a club with loads of cash can sign. Meanwhile lots of other clubs around the country manage to find back up strikers for their squads. We should have been looking for final pieces of the jigsaw to get us over the line whilst being in such a good position. It's always a gamble whoever you sign and i'm certain the loan market could have thrown something up. It might cost wages short term but they've been happy enough to do that in the recent past when the manager has presented Downing, Holtby and the like. Even if a short term loan costing 20 grand a week only scores 2 goals he might be labelled a flop. Not if those 2 goals win 2 games or similar and yield 4-6 points, absolutely vital to where we are. Mowbrays preference is always multi positional squad players, the recruitment depts preference is always youth. Sometimes you need to think a bit more square pegs for square holes. Wouldn't matter if we were say were we usually are in mid season but we aren't.
