Attendances: A cause for concern
tomphil replied to SIMON GARNERS 194's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
500 ? That's probably the amount of regulars Waggot lost in moving the family stand and closing the DE in the first place. There may have been a few more if we;d been winning but since the nerves set in it was always going to be difficult to shift a lot. £10 or 15 per ticket for one game was always the only way to go to get over a thousand in there although they probably would've had to offer Millwall the same. Would it really have done any harm though if they'd just given them a small allocation ? Hopefully there's a late surge of another 500, it's entirely possible there might be. -

I think they could have found a striker from somewhere in the loan market if they really really wanted to. Just don't think they did they've put all their eggs into the BBD plus help from others basket. -
Gallagher has been played wide for so long it's no wonder he doesn't have the knack of a target man. I think he was signed as a wide forward anyway so no amount of wishing on the fans part is going to turn him into Danny Graham. He should be used as a sub and come on centrally to attack balls whipped in when we are chasing games or a winner. He earns his corn coming on defending from the front and putting it about when we are trying to see out games to be fair. Starting with him though is often a lost cause and gives the team no balance going forwards. Yet it is something Mowbray has continued and will continue to do because he tries to justify it.

As usual it's just a shot in the dark they haven't given it enough thought, have they now just employed somebody to come up with these ideas ? It's a good deal especially when you look at the prices for younger people but it was never going to get big numbers in the DE. You need cheap one off deals to get 2 or 3 thousand extra in there. That's a proven fact as is bundles don't work so sadly i think this will fall a bit flat. A shame but not a surprise at all however if they get a thousand plus in half the DE lower fair play. Absolutely pointless if they are scattered all across the expanse of 5k seats. -

It's something we've moaned about on here for years so now we have it we should be thankful because we aren't really a defensive team. This system and these defenders give the team a good platform to attack he just needs to get the blend right at the front now. -
I can't believe i'm reading this after the last few seasons when the main problem was messing around with systems and rotating according to opposition. Countless times the guy reporting for the local press got ten mins into an away game and still couldn't tell everyone who was playing where, nor was the formation actually was. Yes we need a plan B but most of the success this season has come from having a system that suits and sticking to it. What we really needed was another good goalscoring forward. For me though he needs to start with square pegs in square holes and shame thing up from the bench when needed. The use of subs recently has seen us back to predictable like for like changes and getting people on for the sake of it. There's nothing inventive about chucking Gallagher on on 60 mins and just hoping or throwing Hedges on as right wing back with not long left. That needs to improve.

Qpr never have up here but Millwall have had a thousand plus plenty times in the last decade. I can see a few making the trek to make that awful howl they come out with. -

I think it's a result that stops the death spiral hopefully. Defend like that again Saturday and we'll get chances at the other end surely a goal or two is coming. -

We don't sign strikers we only sign wide forwards. -

The key to everything is scoring first and the earlier the better, For the best chance of this you need the best goal threats and creators on the pitch. GIles looks a good player, a lot of attacking is now coming through him but to date hes created nothing. We need to go back to what was working and also have that impact stuff available from the bench. -

Used as he should be Gallagher can contribute and help this team. Used as Mowbray wants to use him he's more of a hinderence. This one is on the manager more than the player. -

He did but then they tied to turn him into an apprentice Corry Evans which was never going to work. This season hes looked more like his old self but it seems hes been doing that much muck and bullets the other side of his game has suffered. If we played a different system you could maybe have Buckley with him as a poor mans Tugay and Savage. Not sure that works with the rest of this team though. -

I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who can't grasp how much better Travis is than Lowe was. When you're looking for any available stick to beat with though. -

Where's he going to play him though ? He's just yet another that wasn't signed for a specific job just to fill in in whatever place he's thrown on. This is the thing i feel Mowbray falls down on constantly and undoes some of his better work. He just cannot sign horses for courses and prefers 2 who can be chucked around the team rather than one who can slot his square peg into a square hole. -

Good platform this now to kick on with a few home wins, defense back on song keeping it tight. That was needed so carry it forwards and get a bit more inventive up top and scrap the non false 9 Buckley for someone who can play there. By the way where is the JRC fan club ? Meanwhile the guy he can so easily replace slotted in effortlessly in a center position ! -

He hasn't got big enough balls to try something like that, the number of times we've been close to signing another decent forward. Then left it alone and gone for another utility type or two is ridiculous. Imo he's terrified of having to relegate Gallagher to a regular bench man, exactly where he should be and where he does his best work from. -

Good point although i thought WBA were there for the taking. Mowbray really should have brought some fire power in to help our ONE regular goalscorer. Relying on Gallagher is like relying on a turkey to volunteer plucking and cooking itself for Christmas. -
Looked quite comfortable that half but created nowt as usual yet restricted them as well. However Bruce will probably outsmart Mowbray 2nd half. Chances of him blaming everything on Nyambe and hooking him 1st chance he gets ? Evens.

Stats would be interesting on this and i know there's plenty times in past seasons where an unchanged or minimally changed side has gone on winning/unbeaten runs. I'd like to see how many times a team with 4 or 5 unforced changes has had the desired effect in comparison. -

Looking out onto NO1 from high in the Jack Walker BBE side the impression i get is it looks better than it has done for years. Seems more vibrant and camaraderie than when i used to go in there anyway, you don't get the impression of it being toxic. -

It was the single worst thing they ever did for football fans in this country by completely closing standing terraces. You see more kids and middle aged man childs wrecked on drugs and booze now than anytime back then. Why ? Because the craic as it was and should be has been taken out of it, can't stand with your mates and the more voiciferous and jump and and chant. Can't do this can't do that etc so they just tend to get wasted instead and that has become the rule of thumb for the day. -

I'm surprised at the surprise they are so expensive as everything tends to be down there. I don't recall Fulham ever being cheap and given the area it's to be expected, also i presume home fans pay the same. Now if it was West Brom charging that i'd be spitting feathers. Yes it's too much for Championship football but they are very fortunate to be able to get away with it and still get full crowds in their tiny ground. It is though time for like for like pricing for the handful of their lot that usually make the effort up here, i think they paid £20 this season. They must have thought it was a steal off the pitch as well as on it. -
What do you suggest instead Gav ? The Mowbray Walkway behind the JW stand complete Shankly style gates ....😂

Man gets statue just for doing the job he's been paid millions to do ! It's a funny old game.

If you go back 5/10/20 years you'd see the same reaction between fans and opposition keepers if they start gesticulating winding each other up. Certainly isn't right people overstepping the mark on the terraces but they'll get dealt with, equally it isn't right professionals being paid thousands to be professional engaging in this kind of thing. He picks the bottle up reports it to the ref and the ref reports it to the club/police and they look for the goon that threw it, job done situation diffused. He wanted to take on the BBE that was down to him nobody else so to try and totally absolve him for his part in something that could have got a whole lot worse is nonsense. From what a few Forest fans tell me he's a bit of a character so as always in life if you want to be the center of attention you deal with what it brings along.
