yes I remember him as seriously good player in an excellent Villa team - the only other beards that come to mind immediatelyaround then were Frank Lampard and Bob Latchford - im sure there must have been others.. -

The Keith Fear thing always makes me smile - got on to the Longside 20 mins late Rovers 2 up - no one could see much and everyone around saying Jack Lewis is unrecognisable today - they hadn't realised we had signed Fear on loan - from that distance they looked similar ! -

Not sure about Dack on the left of a 3 there - doesn't have Tony Parkes' work rate - not sure how he would gel with Mckenzie either. Kaminski might be as good as Arnold and Nyambe v Branagan might be close. Mick Rathbone - yes every time! -

I think that was before the reorganisation of the NHS - I always heard it as F******g ambulance though I prefer your version - just needs a mission statement after along the lines of 'patient professional and caring ' or some such twaddle -
TRANSFER THREAD - JANUARY 2021

With apologies to our younger viewers and acknowledgement to Victorian musical hall ditties... Oh Mr Mowbray what shall we do We are in need of a decent left back But we have loaned him back to Crewe If you need an explanation Im sure Tyrone or some of our senior members will explain... -
For me I always thought he was slightly better than Shilton - more athletic and quicker though Shilts went on too long -lots of You Tube Vids for those that havent seen him About 10s in....RIP no age

Rovers vs Reading at Virtual Ewood
grinder replied to Lancs Rover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
What I cannot cannot cannot understand is that I rememberMowbray as a tough uncompromising centre half - no nonsense no messing yet in his time here he has not engendered that into any of his defenders - its almost as if he wanted to be something else and can't accept it - totally weird.... -
I throw this one in for the 70s crowd Ken Beamish v Luton 76 From memory Faz ? won ball somewhee near Rovers goal line at Darwen end- passed to Metcalfe - passed to Parkes took it over half way line passed out to Kevin Hird storming up right wing - clipped cross in met by Beamo on the voley into the top corner at BBE - (ok it may or may not have sliced off his foot being Beamo ?) Whole move was probably less than 10seconds Am I the only one that remembers this??

Berkovic definitely Thompson too really good for us - carsley maybe but played out of position sometimes. I'll throw in Tony Parkes and at risk of board meltdown Grabbi who was never played in his best position or maybe managed optimally...

Opinions on Mike Newell
grinder replied to IrelandsRover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Might be a bit controversial but I thought he was a more natural foil for Shearer than Sutton who used sometimes played into Shearers space. Newell was more of a poor mans Teddy Sheringham but actually a pretty good player. Didnt he get a European hatrick or is my memory playing tricks? -
What are your favourite sports books?
grinder replied to Bigdoggsteel's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Since this is Sports books not just football books and the topic of mental illness has already been aired Coming Back To Me - Marcus Trescothik - the cricket fans on here will have already read it - if you havent its worth a couple of days of lockdown time..... -
Very impressed Tyrone- I'll need to read my book more closely - remember Dad talking a lot about warps and wefts - sad fact of how little of this knowledge remains in what was once a textile town, still have a few of his designs though There are some videos on British Pathe too including Dad in the design studio - albeit in Burnley........

From my Dads 'Modern Textile Design and Production' 1949 Edition 42 Shillings !!....... Maybe Tyrone can explain - I haven't a clue !
