I think the difference must obviously be in the content and the direction that the dissent takes. One snippet that nobody has mentioned yet re:discipline is the 'spectacle' sign that Ferdinand made to the linesman near the end when he missed giving an offside against us. Most players in most leagues in this country would have had a yellow for that.

Yes he did and giving the foul against Kuqi was a weak decision by Stiles. BUT Bellamy's was obviously for dissent which is his own fault entirely. Stupid to miss the Mags game for such a ridiculous loss of self control. He deserves a right old bollocking from the rest of the team and the manager.

[Archived] Savage Bad Press
thenodrog replied to ihateburnley's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Rubbish EiT. the old RFW sussed us at half time and MU really came out of the traps well in the second half. They squeezed the pitch and closed Tugay down completely (as every team that plays against us should do). In the face of such a pressing game the defensive capabilities of Tugay, Bentley and to a lesser extent MGP who doubled up on Ronaldo time and again were found seriously wanting, which is nothing that we dont already know. Savage was getting swamped which makes Hughesy's late substitutions mystifying. Once Reid and Emerton came on our midfield stiffened up completely and the balance of play became much less one way traffic. -
Tell you what....... why don't you go to whatever matches you want and pay back the money when you start work? New Labour thinks it's a workable policy so BRFC may as well follow suit. Getting kids into debt before they start work is apparently quite acceptable to our irresponsible Labour govt.

If I understand things correctly that could be deemed a racist action. Couldn't it?

2 good points re:parking and not being able to move away from embarrassing / aggravating / uncouth beurks in all seater stadia. The latter must put lots of decent people with youngsters off. I go to fewer away games because of this but I'm happy with my ST position. Maybe many casual supporters who do not but ST's have been put off for the same reason. But the above para is the most imp imo. The need to identify the target market is paramount in this initiative. I have touched on this once before where given that Jack Walker is a 10 for example, the loyal fans who go home and away every game for decades are 9, the people that select between 10 and 15 home games a season are 5, and the ones who only but tickets when we are at the top of the Prem in April are 1. The above is not accurate I know just an example, but maybe if the categories were given more substance then information can be gleaned from it as to which section of support has drifted away most and which section should command the greatest effort in being enticed back.

I've a lot of sympathy with the axe. He stayed here for the Pompey game and has been potted as capt by his teammates and his manager leaving his new position in the team virtually untenable. I can understand them of course but it must be disappointing for him and his family and friends all the same. Worst thing is that unless we play 4-5-1 at which he excels defensively he doesn't get a look in. Must say I dont want to lose him.

awful draw. But I went to the opening day fixture and we played em off the park for 45 mins before capitulating weakly. We need Nelsen and Todd/Zurab to contain Harewood and Zamora, Todd and Mokoena were all at sea in August. We are playing better now than we have for some time, part of this is down to hard work and application from key players whilst part is down to suddenly getting the rub of the green. We can win this one but it's hard to call.

Lot of good work there. A few points imo....... 1. Less banging on about cheaper tickets. The club will hardly want to hear that and cheaper tickets to date have done sod all in the way of attracting more fans, Saturdays FA cup tie v QPR was proof of that. There is a sales concept which should be heeded and that advises against 'under-selling' a good product. Ultimately it devalues that product! Beware. 2. Another adage from the world of sales is that 'the hardest customer to attract is the one that you have just lost'. Take every effort to look after current supprter base. 3. I like the flexible ticket/internet stuff. It needs developing. One big change since the glory days is the number of people now on the 4 days on 4 days off shift system. There are lots, and by and large most of those people seem to prefer it. Problem is that many know they will miss some games and so choose not to buy a ST, this in turn leads to less commitment and a gradual 'weaning off' of the BRFC nipple. Any ticket policy imo needs to address the requirements of that fan.

Just as we are about to play the 2 teams that pays the odious El Hadj Diouf and the old RFW their wages it appears that the authorities are going to come down hard on the filthy and completely unecessary practice of spitting. I hope that includes a season long ban for the even more repugnant practice of players emptying their nasal passages! About time too! BTW Whoever is sitting close to the old RFW on Wed will they please keep an eye on him through the match and get him to wrap up his used chewing gum rather than spit it on the floor. It's a sign of his lowlife upbringing I know but a knight of the realm really should be setting a better example.

[Archived] Rovers 3 - 0 QPR. F.A. cup

Bob was employing heavy irony there mate. Todd hardly reacted in fact his 'celebration' was even more laid back then Gerrards was for Lpools first goal. Clayton Green? £12 tickets? FA Cup? Why didn't you go? -
Good bloke but I think it's cause of Wigan exceeding all expectations. Maybe under pressure he might change. In the meantime he seems content to let his boss do the whingeing on his behalf.

I dont think that there has been a better strike anywhere all season than Reidy's waggy but imo MGP's was a better goal technically. Less margin for error, from where he was a few inches either way would have missed the target. -

Good grief. anyway.......pondering further, I wonder who has actually been pulling the strings on this sudden urge to quit? Unless I am mistaken this situation has been manipulated from outside. ("Now then I've had a word with our chairman lad. He knows that it's been a struggle for you since summer having to manage on just a few thousand quid each week. So if you can get yourself a free transfer from't Rovers, and are willing to make your own insurance arrangements and come on an appearence based arrangement we'll take a chance on you and pay you what you are asking for.) No doubt we'll find out soon when he declares where he has decided to go over the past few months. -

As my mate says...."He's never been to see me when I've been badly". He'll have earned more since he bumped his head than most of the supporters are likely to earn in their entire life. Still feel sorry? -
Why are our players allowed to speak to the press if this is the consequence? Players are players simple as, they are not diplomats, managers, PR execs and not trained in media speak, so a total ban on speaking to the press and media by the clubs will stop any future problems........... ............. and in the process earn the Prem, the FA and the Referees assoc a right old shafting from their paymasters the self same press and media. What goes around as they say.

[Archived] Rovers 2-1 Portsmouth

Sorry LD I dont usually do 'cutting', But I do prefer to do accurate and inaccurate. Has Shillito ever seen Enckleman play? Or does he want us to waste our valuable transfer kitty strengthening the wrong area? Jansens off leaving us with just 3 strikers and he craps on about a guy that the majority of teams in the prem would still like in their squad. I wonder what it is about so many supporters that means that they live strictly by the give a dog a bad name theory? We have seen critics of the likes of Sherwood, Carsley, Davies, Wilcox, etc etc etc who once they make their limited minds up refuse to change their opinion no matter what. Well personally given the benefit of time travel I wouldn't mind any of them in our squad at the moment. The whingers are small minded and pathetic individuals for the most part. Crowned of course by that complete tosser-in-chief Vinjay. PS If you ever need a break I could do your Tuesday column for you! -

What game have you been at numpty? Swap him for Westerweld would you? Their free kick was far better struck than ours yet Westerveld was nowhere near saving it and our second goal was down to another simple error by Westerveld. Brad also saved a cracking snap-shot from Pompey and performed a few superb stops at Wigan. He may have declined from the superman that he was 3 years ago, but he hasn't declined as much as your intellect........ or your manners. -

Lets get the game won first and think about sentimentality second. Name him as sub if at all. He's hardly likely to bust a gut for the Rovers cause now is he? Personally I'd much rather see us play Benni McArthy upfront! -

If he had made a complete recovery he would still be worth big bucks. Thats the only reason that he was given such a long time to recover imo. We cannot afford to chuck money away but in this case we have. Hindsight now dictates that we should have potted him asap rather than waste all those wages and no one no matter how sentimental they are can deny that now, but foresight is what was needed and that is much much harder to come by. -

Unfortunate business all round. We owe him nothing, he owes us plenty and make no mistake if he were still good enough he would be going nowhere. Time to turn the page. -

How can you name Flitty and Amoruso in the same context? There is nothing wrong with Flitcroft's contribution to this club. It's his last year, he is still available for selection and he has been an excellent servant. Whats wrong with that? Oh and to the best of my knowledge he has not wilfully and stupidly broken the terms of his contract and negated any insurance claim that we may heve wanted to make has he?
