Bristol City (H) - Saturday 20th June - 3pm KO

I watched Soccer Saturday and Jeff Stelling said we have dropped 25 points from winning positions this season. Just hanging on to half of them would have put us challenging Leeds and West Brom. Merson was full of praise for us and said what we all know that we have goals in us. It's the other end that has worried me for a few years. -

Always happy to win but today is sweet because of that odious little Bristol City manager who caused a ruckus at Ashton Gate earlier this season. -
A lockdown baby? ??? Congratulations.

Just seen the goal on Soccer Saturday. No pressure on the ball out wide, free header in between our centre halves and marzipan wrists from the keeper. Shocking all round defensively. -

And that riles me more than anything else about this farce they are now calling football. I know supporters who never miss games, one in particular hasn't missed a game of any description since 1973. But Waggott and the other suits are there in all their finery. -

Smallwood not even amongst nine subs and he's taking around £20k for an extra month. And the club are reluctant to offer refunds to ST holders. -

Well done once again Herbie. If there was a BRFCS award like Luminary of Lockdown I would nominate you ☺️. -

It will be interesting in the cup competitions still to play if any games go to extra time. They changed the rules recently so clubs could make an extra substitution in extra time over and above the permitted three. So potentially for any games that require extra time there could be twelve changes across both teams. That 60% of outfield players for each team. In my view that is bordering on farcical. -

Great picture Gav. Three special trains from Blackburn and costing three and tuppence return. -
When the Stoke manager found out he had tested positive he was actually at Carrington where his team were due to play Man Utd in a friendly. The game was called off and he went into self isolation but how did it get so close to the game when he found out. Had that call come an hour or two later the infection could have spread like wildfire around Carrington. My understanding was that this couldn't happen in the protective bubble they have around football. Had it spread Operation Restart and the 'protocols' would have had to be rewritten. Whilst precautions have been taken it only takes one player to slip through the net.

Eight positive tests across six Championship clubs. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/june/efl-statement-covid-19-test-results4/

All this sounds like a continuation of the general chaos of the last decade. The common denominator in that period is the owners. The dumbing down of everything we had come to expect as normal is now complete as something that should have been a relatively simple process is made complicated and seems certain to antagonise a large swathe of loyal supporters, many who might just decide enough is enough. The latest news almost seems that anybody requesting a refund will likely be means tested............for your own money.
-
And therein lies the difference. Rovers are simply not offering a refund or any other option but instead trying to make fans feel bad about asking for one. And there wasn't any other options. I can speak for several people I have had contact with In the last few days who to a man said that Rovers could have kept their money before that communication last Thursday. For us it's absolutely not about the money.

Having Championship football on Sky is almost like an add on the the PL deal in my view. Last time I saw the viewing figures for Championship games they paled into absolute insignificance against the PL figures. I remember the ITV Digital farce when they won a contract to show football league matches for three years. The uptake was so small that they went bust within a few months leaving clubs high and dry. The conclusion I draw is that in itself Championship football would not again be a stand alone deal for any tv company.
-
I will not be signing up either but it's not about a refund (or any other options being mooted) for me personally, it's more the principle and how Rovers have tried to make me feel guilty about it. I have said before last week's announcement I am just not interested in watching Rovers on a laptop.
-
I wrote on Thursday and whilst I didn't demand a refund personally I wrote that there should have been options. I sent it to Lynsey Talbot and got a reply that she had forwarded it to the Commercial Department. I subsequently asked her for a specific name of who I should deal with. A friend sent an email marked FAO Waggott and got a reply from a lady (Waggotts PA?) who pretty much said that everybody was busy sorting out iFollow and he would get a response later.

Leeds are doing the same and calling them 'crowdies'. The big difference between them and us is that it's an option to take in lieu of missing games having paid for them. Haven't we had several cardboard cutouts on the pitch for us recently though ???.
-
Barnsley, Birmingham and Bristol City have offered options rather than just watching on iFollow. It appears Preston and Reading treat their fans with the same disrespect that Rovers do.
-
What a refreshing article of honesty and written with some feeling. That somebody has actually put a name to it is also refreshing. I wonder who actually penned our communication. It is cold and unfeeling.
-
Check the Wigan, Barnsley and Derby websites. And I'm sure there are more who are offering different options rather than our one item agenda.
-
I heard this morning of a long standing Rovers can who very rarely misses a game and is self isolating due to a medical condition. He has never owned a computer and probably wouldn't know how to switch one on. He lives alone and with self isolating there is no chance he can watch Rovers on iFollow anywhere. The assumption Rovers have made is that one size fits and it is completely wrong and almost discriminatory. They have taken a lazy approach to this which sadly seems to be the norm in the last decade.
-
I don't disagree with your general point about the mindset but for the sake of a five minute email I think it might be worth the bother. My feeling is that if the powers that be can understand the depth of feeling they might change their minds about how they are going about this.
-
I have emailed Lynsey Talbot outlining my concerns and worries of the long term damage the statement yesterday could do. I have had a reply to tell me if has been forwarded to the Commercial Department. I also sent links to three other Championship clubs websites who ARE offering refunds. I would urge anybody who is aggrieved by this to email the club. They have to understand the depth of feeling.
