And Stockport have a gimme in their last match at already relegated Nuneaton while Chorley host Bradford Park Avenue. Chorley will probably be in the playoffs for the third year in succession.
-
I thought his running style with and without the ball was like Phil Foden's. I thought he was looking to get on the ball and get things happening. Seems to be a confident kid.
-
That was just about as comfortable as winning a football match is. Bolton just didn't want to know and if we had played with more intensity could have had five. Good to see Brereton score and he could have had a hat trick with a little more care. Travis and Rodwell ran the game and Rothwell continued to excite the crowd albeit running a little blind at times. Really good to see two hungry young players come on as Buckley and Butterworth looked to get on the ball, played quickly and looked for give and go's.

Villa 1-0 up against Millwall and looking for a tenth straight win, incredible form. If Millwall lose and Rotherham beat Big Club they will be level on points with two to play.
-
At any normal club that would be the case. Mowbray was due to go out in November last year but didn't go and no reason was given. Significantly we didn't spend much. I'm probably stating the obvious to a lot of supporters but whilst they are here we will never be a normal club.
-
Mowbray having to go to India to meet them implies (to me anyway) that he doesn't know what his budget will be. His comments are worrying.

This is the full itinerary. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2019/april/matchday-timetable-bolton-wanderers-h/

Either way it will be a great finish with both teams so close but looking at Stcockport's resources against Chorley's they have done remarkably well. I believe Stockport are still full time too.
-
I felt for the lad. Listening to some Chorley fans around me I picked up that he had recently played for them and left under bitter circumstances.
-
I went to the game yesterday and enjoyed the occasion. Chorley deserved to win but at 1-0 I saw the worst miss I have ever seen live. All the Stockport player had to do was side foot the ball into a completely empty goal. Be put it over from four yards - incredible. Chorley have it in their own hands now and have to win their last two matches but National League North aficionados tell me they are two tough ones.

Having seen every minute of Rothwells games I have seen hardly any evidence that he is doing anything 'ugly' at all. I think Mowbray realised he got too personal after the Sheff Wednesday game when he said he plays like a little boy (or something to that effect). The vast majority of fans are genuinely excited when Rothwell gets the ball and if a small by product of that is that he sometimes doesn't offer cover to a full back then I am happy to to see us taking that risk. Do we want to see a functional Conway or Bennett as opposed to an exciting Rothwell? Hopefully Mowbray feels the same way.

Why not have both a commanding centre half and a keeper who dominates his six yard box as transfer targets? These in my book are the two main areas of weakness and strengthening here would reduce the number of mistake riddled goals we concede.
-
I don't really know too much about Ben Benson but I think the best goalkeeping coaches would struggle with our two. In my opinion their mistakes are elementary evidenced by the goals conceded at Forest and QPR which are primarily down to poor decision making. I just don't think any coach can greatly improve any players decision making. It's a natural trait in my view and knowing when and what to do. The old saying of making a silk purse out of a sows ear is applicable.

Bolton have a host of players out of contract in the summer. Given their troubles with getting paid this season I'd be surprised if any of them want to stay or will even be offered new deals. Maybe Parkinson will throw in a few kids. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bolton-wanderers/vertragsende/verein/355
-
Just on the train back and I have to say I was surprised that none of the kids were involved despite the assurances from Mowbray that once we were safe he would. It seems crazy that two weeks running now we are coasting with a two goal lead and two different keepers make ridiculous errors and put us under pressure. For me now it is the number one priority to bring in a decent keeper. Williams was again outstanding at centre half and played what I feel is the pass of the season. A sixty yard ball over the full back and straight into Armstrong's stride. Lenihan wasn't far behind him again. Travis once again excelled as did Rothwell.

Probably two of the stand out individual performances of the season were by Reed. I thought he was excellent at West Bromwich and at home to Derby. And who can forget his celebration in front of the Riverside when he won a tackle late in a game (possibly Leeds). I don't think he will be player of the season but you could make a strong case for him.

Easter Monday sees us lock horns with an old foe from t'other side of Bull Hill. I have to be perfectly honest and admit I don't really care too much for them. Almost certainly this goes back to the 70's when a visit to Burnden Park could be intimidating. I was actually chased back to Trinity Street station by some Bolton fans because we had the temerity to beat them in a crucial Division Three game. For anybody of a certain age Derek Fazackerley scored a late winner. I used to meet him frequently on the football circuit and I always reminded him that he was almost responsible for an early demise for me. Another reason I disliked them was because quite often they used to beat us. Players like Paul Jones, Sam Allardyce, Neil Whatmore, Warwick Rimmer, Peter Nicholson, Barry Siddall, Frank Worthington as the names just roll off my tongue and I was envious. Over the years they have a marginally better record with 70 wins to our 63 with 38 drawn. Hopefully we will seal their relegation on Monday and be able to laugh at them from our lofty, smug mid table security. They have really had a season to forget with late payments to playing and non playing staff, a pre season players strike and more recently players refusing to train with some games only being confirmed at the eleventh hour. At this point I ought to give them some grudging praise that they have taken it to within a few games of the seasons end before relegation is confirmed. There is some real concern about their new owner, Bassini who has bought the club from the snake oil salesman that was Anderson. I can't help thinking that it will be out of the frying pan for them. Their nickname is The Trotters which is quite apt really when you consider some of the Del Boy like characters they have had running them. Sadly Jason Lowe is out for the season but aside from him they still have some experienced players to call upon so whilst I'm not expecting a cakewalk I will be disappointed if we don't win by two clear goals. Hopefully our boss is as true as his word and we see some of the excellent young players who have impressed this season in the under 23's. It would be a good time to blood them. For older supporters John Byrom will probably be the most famous ' played for both teams' player. But from memory these weren't too bad: El Hadj Diouf Alan Ainscow Gordon Taylor The infamous (in Darwen anyway) Mark Patterson Scott Sellars Matt Jansen And Big Sam managed us both. Enjoy the game and the Trotters wallowing in their own misery.

About age not size ?

And the lumbering giant Scholes? Or Sterling? Size, like age doesn't matter.

Boltons game against Villa on Friday might not go ahead. Hopefully it's off and we send them down on Monday. https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/17578334.boltons-clash-with-aston-villa-yet-to-get-the-go-ahead/
