Elliott Bennett Tests Positive For Coronavirus
jim mk2 replied to a topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Elliott always maintained strict social distancing anyway when it came to marking opposition forward so his absence shouldn't make too much difference if / when Rovers start playing again. Hope he's OK BTW. -
Crisps known as "chips" in the US? Are chips are their fries. And it's poor cheese too - gooey and of course adding alot of salt to the taste. . You haven't mentioned their tea making. Travelling round Pennsylvania a few years I must have had tea made 5 different ways - and none of them were the right way. They haven't got a clue.

And not a patch on steak pudding, chips and mushy peas smothered in gravy from the local chippy. Jambalaya muck by comparison. Meanwhile, the Westminster menu as grisly as ever: more Tory corruption. https://evolvepolitics.com/tory-housing-secretary-admits-helping-billionaire-ex-tory-donor-save-40m-in-tax-with-unlawful-housing-decision/?fbclid=IwAR0Ozkabu9E6LNZwOxB120lbpF2f2Wb0D_xZ7n7t9FCfpnZXbQSXCJibRY0

How about a hot, sweaty fast bowler pumping out spittle and sweat within a few inches of the poor old umpire?

It was a friend of Keith Andrews or Keith Andrews himself - certainly someone who would not tolerate any criticism of him.

Jack Walker hated ManU as much as the next man, and he saw a chance to antagonise Ferguson by snatching Kidd. Unfortunately, by doing so he also damaged Rovers because Kidd was never manager material. Rovers were badly managed by Walker after we won the title in 1995 - he failed to invest in players when we were the top dogs (Zidane and Dugarry anyone?) and a he made a hash of a load of appointments after Dalglish left (which he would not have done, if Walker had continued to spend). A championship winning club should never get relegated 4 years later, and it showed that Walker's BRFC was built on sand.

Money rather than health has been driving the government's agenda in the wider country from the start - not just football The herd immunity strategy was always designed to minimise the effect on the economy at the expense of people's lives. I don't blame football authorities for this - they need a lead from government. France provided it by banning all football until September

He's a £2 million a year embarrassment. No wonder he's hanging on

Another top Leeds player from the Revie era dies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52479100

Robinson was definitely a centre forward. Don’t know why he was at Liverpool for only one season because they won 3 trophies that year including the league and European cup. Good player without being top drawer.

Bobby Moore would never have got a cap if Duncan Edwards had survived Munich

Sad to see one of the iconic footballers of the 1970s go in this way. Happily, the BBC recognised his importance as a player with a tribute on the 10pm News tonight. I liked Norman Hunter.

You can change one result in Rovers' history....

Rovers 1 Coventry 2 late 1966-67 season We were relegated from the old first division in 1965-66 and were pushing for promotion straight back up (no playoffs and only 2 promoted in those days) Crunch game against promotion rivals Coventry (managed by Jimmy Hill) went badly wrong with Mike Ferguson sent off and a loss that effectively put us out of the race. It had huge consequences. Rovers went on a downward path for the next 25 years and only got back to the top flight in the early 1990s, while Coventry won promotion and were in the first division for two decades. I -

Coronavirus - Football Pay & Moral Vacuums
jim mk2 replied to jim mk2's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
No doubt about that but it doesn't make it right that as an ultra wealthy individual he chose to avoid paying tax that pays for public services including the NHS, police, armed forces and schools by going to live in the Channel islands. Alot of people couldn't give a flying fig about football or Rovers - they're entitled to be miffed by the actions of him and other wealthy folk who avoid paying the taxes that the little people pay. Anyway, back to the coronavirus moral vacuums -

Walker was a tax avoider - the worst kind of greedy capitalist because the tax he avoided paying would have helped to make the lives better of those who worked for him. Bill Shankly would have despised Walker. -
Quick wiki shows him resuming his career with other clubs after the first world war. Died aged 53 in 1947. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Dennison Great quiz by the way.

Coronavirus - Football Pay & Moral Vacuums
jim mk2 replied to jim mk2's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Denise Coates is a conundrum She pays herself an obscene amount of money every year and the money is made by fleecing mostly people who can least afford it. However, unlike many billionaires she makes no attempt to avoid taxes by shifting money offshore or in dodgy tax avoidance schemes, she still lives locally and puts huge amounts of money back into the community through among other things, the football club. So it's 2 and a half cheers for Denise. -
Don't remember that to be honest but I enjoy the Law and Order UK series, made about 10 years ago with Bradley Walsh. Very slick and watchable and I even watch the repeats.

Shetland was a favourite - I like the dark, broody stuff. The last series was slow and rather boring though, probably gone on too long. Some of the accents were undecipherable too, you have to really concentrate to make out what they are saying

Line of Duty is very good with all its unexpected twists and turns but it's so far fetched - virtually every copper is bent! Cressida Dick hates it because it shows the police in a bad light and is unrealistic. She does have a point Bodyguard is another that promised alot but then got silly. I stopped watching after the 2nd episode.

Completely out of order.

FT is reporting that the PFA is resisting calls for players to take pay cuts in the coronavirus crisis https://www.ft.com/content/b2278645-eaf8-408f-bc9f-04478d32795c ....while MPs and others have accused them of living in a moral vacuum https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52120578 Barca players have agreed to take a 70 percent pay cut with no fuss and other La liga clubs have followed. Virtually all German and Italian players have taken at least a 50 percent pay cut. The difference is players in these leagues they may still be overpaid but they have the nous to realise they are part of something bigger. Discuss

In case you didn’t know (eBay)
jim mk2 replied to IrelandsRover's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
If you look in his "completed listings" some shirts are selling and others aren't. There are some extraordinary prices though - £4,500 for a Cantona shirt and £1,750 for Paul Scholes boots. The seller has 100 per cent feedback so presumably the buyers are happy with their purchases. -
Rovers best ever Premier League 11
jim mk2 replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Tbis is the one. Maybe Savage for Batty but the best players in every position.
