  1. Walker was a tax avoider - the worst kind of greedy capitalist because the tax he avoided paying would have helped to make the lives better of those who worked for him. Bill Shankly would have despised Walker.
  2. Quick wiki shows him resuming his career with other clubs after the first world war. Died aged 53 in 1947. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Dennison Great quiz by the way.
  3. Denise Coates is a conundrum She pays herself an obscene amount of money every year and the money is made by fleecing mostly people who can least afford it. However, unlike many billionaires she makes no attempt to avoid taxes by shifting money offshore or in dodgy tax avoidance schemes, she still lives locally and puts huge amounts of money back into the community through among other things, the football club. So it's 2 and a half cheers for Denise.
  4. Don't remember that to be honest but I enjoy the Law and Order UK series, made about 10 years ago with Bradley Walsh. Very slick and watchable and I even watch the repeats.
  5. Shetland was a favourite - I like the dark, broody stuff. The last series was slow and rather boring though, probably gone on too long. Some of the accents were undecipherable too, you have to really concentrate to make out what they are saying
  6. Line of Duty is very good with all its unexpected twists and turns but it's so far fetched - virtually every copper is bent! Cressida Dick hates it because it shows the police in a bad light and is unrealistic. She does have a point Bodyguard is another that promised alot but then got silly. I stopped watching after the 2nd episode.
  7. Completely out of order.
  8. FT is reporting that the PFA is resisting calls for players to take pay cuts in the coronavirus crisis https://www.ft.com/content/b2278645-eaf8-408f-bc9f-04478d32795c ....while MPs and others have accused them of living in a moral vacuum https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52120578 Barca players have agreed to take a 70 percent pay cut with no fuss and other La liga clubs have followed. Virtually all German and Italian players have taken at least a 50 percent pay cut. The difference is players in these leagues they may still be overpaid but they have the nous to realise they are part of something bigger. Discuss
  9. If you look in his "completed listings" some shirts are selling and others aren't. There are some extraordinary prices though - £4,500 for a Cantona shirt and £1,750 for Paul Scholes boots. The seller has 100 per cent feedback so presumably the buyers are happy with their purchases.
  10. Tbis is the one. Maybe Savage for Batty but the best players in every position.
  11. Head injuries after a fall in a pub https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51928263
  12. Vogel? Blimey, so memorable I'd forgotten him
  13. England cricket tour of Sri Lanka called off Turn up at Ewood tomorrow - might be the last live footy match we'll see for a long time
  14. Good post but the NHS has not been well funded over the past decade. Its funding has been cut in real terms and the pressure and cracks in the system are plain to see. I hope these scientists advising the government know what they're doing. We're very much out of step with measures taken in other counties and I think our scientists need to explain more fully their stance. Johnson had better get it right because he'll pay the price in political terms As for the football, it doesn't matter. The season's finished as far as Rovers is concerned.
  15. Has this team been approved by the government's chief medical officer? The government's chief scientific officer prefers 4-3-3. What do you think?
  16. They say what Johnson and the government tell them to say. It's a new government and they're petrified the economy will go into recession because of the virus - which it will
  17. Donald Trump, the US's chief scientific adviser, said coronvirus is a hoax so it must be true.
  18. Some people have had enough of "experts"; others choose to take their advice when it suits them https://www.chathamhouse.org/expert/comment/michael-gove-trouble-experts
  19. Yes, well done. Thinking of others, unlike some selfish folk including the one who is never wrong
  20. Sports ban coming https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/51859553 Bristol City match could be Rovers' last until next season
  21. You can't dismiss it so easily Rev. This is a serious global pandemic, and there's few signs of the infection rate slowing down. No one knows when it will peak or how many will ultimately die. Hence the progressing worldwide lockdown. Football doesn't matter
  22. Yep, it's a poor division this year. West Brom and Leeds the best teams (though not that wonderful) and the rest pretty average. The fact we're up there challenging shows how mediocre it is. However I'm sure the likes of Warnock would have made us a better outfit, even with the current disjointed squad. Consistency of selection would have helped - Mowbray's selections yesterday being just another another example of his muddled thinking.
  23. Thanks for the insight. I'll ask the cat next time
  24. Played so well at Charlton and Brentford but not turned up today. Someone explain please
