The man's a twerp We're about to go 2-0 down at home in an Ashes series because of Bazball ideology Enough
-
We've not lost an Ashes series at home for 20 years - it's not looking good for Bazball at the moment
-
This series, the most important of all.
-
Bazball dictates that you attack at all times, even bouncers that normally you'd duck under or leave alone. Duckett's quotes after the end of play yesterday said as much. - "no regrets about how he got out". England have to come out and admit they have got it badly wrong instead of doubling down and insisting they're going to keep playing the same reckless way
-
Eight down. Even my prediction of 350 is looking a bit hopeful now Still, it's "aggressive" and "entertaining" so the fans are happy
-
From the BBC Many of the Australians in the press box have always been intrigued but doubtful of Bazball on their first exposure to it. Today they're just shaking their heads in disbelief, feeling entirely vindicated. Giving this lot the chance to crow is the most infuriating of all.
-
Stokes gone in the first over..... and now Brook too Bazball in my opinion is epitomised by reckless cricket. In the first Test England at times batted recklessly, giving their wickets away needlessly; the declaration was reckless, ultimately costing England the match. The session yesterday when Australia were struggling and run out of ideas and resorted to bouncers, England decided to take them on and gave away 3 wickets in less than an hour. That was reckless. According to the laws of Bazball, draws are not allowed apparently so there looks to be only one outcome in this match

The proof of the cricket pudding will be in the eating England haven't lost an Ashes series at home for 20 years. If we lose this one Bazball will be rightly discredited and should be binned along with McCullum Sir Geoffrey, playing with a straight bat as always, summed it up when he wrote in his column for the Torygraph that "England have got carried away with Bazball and seem to think entertaining is more important than winning." Thank you.
-
The first innings declaration in the first Test didn't make sense at the time (and still doesn't) and contributed to costing us the match. Root's dismissal and a few others at Edgbaston could definitely be classed as "brainless". At least 3 of the 4 dismissals today were totally unnecessary. This is the Ashes - you beat this lot by not giving them a sniff and grinding them into the dirt, not offering them a way back into the game all the time.
-
Has anyone suggested England should bat all day to make 120-1? There is a happy medium here and it is possible to play attacking cricket without the gung-ho mindset that now prevails.
-
Some of the best Test matches I have seen have been draws. Some of the best games I've played in during 50 years of club cricket have been draws. Fighting to save a match against the odds is just as satisfying if not more satisfying as winning. And drawing is certainly better than losing
-
It's one and the same. The Bazball mindset caused them to play those shots. I like seeing attacking cricket but giving your wicket away is an absolute sin in my book. And those wickets today (and many in the first Test) were given away
-
Michael Vaughan sums up the craziness of England's Bazball approach Well said Michael "That's not entertainment, that was stupidity. England were dominating, did everything you wanted them to do. Baseball batting into St John's Wood. That's not entertaining, that's stupid Test match cricket"
-
Duckett and the other 3 wickets were arguably all given away. Good day on balance for England but it should have been so much better
-
Root gone. Commentators on the BBC says they cannot believe what they are witnessing. England were in pole position but throwing their wickets away as if it were a one-day match. Senseless cricket and I do not enjoy it.
-
Now Duckett fails into the same trap as Pope....... on 98.... why oh why? England tails starts at No 8..........350 might be a good score.
-
Pope gets out when well set with another brainless Bazball shot. That's not Test match cricket and this is the Ashes - you just don't do that. Root lucky to survive too with another silly shot.
-
Crawley given his wicket away - the stupidity of the Bazball mindset. There's no "excitement" in poor cricket. It's a 5-day game. What's the rush? Sir Geoffrey would have set his stall out to bat for a day and a half, and it was fascinating to watch a master craftsman at work. Each to their own I suppose, but Bazball to me typifies a generation isn't prepared to do the hard slog.
-
Contrary to the spirit of Bazball the convicts failed to declare in their first innings. I wonder why. England facing a rearguard action from the off, no silly shots or giving away wickets please
-
Far too polite. England have been rubbish. They threw away the game at Edgbaston and now they're fighting to save this Test - and probably the Ashes. Bazball hype and nonsense. The other lot will be laughing their convict heads off.
-
Ask Baz
-
50 no. Good call One wicket in first session in favourable bowling conditions England to bat last on a wearjng pitch
-
His Test record is poor compared to Root's but then most batsmen's are. That doesn't mean he's not entitled to comment. One of the best commentators I enjoy reading is Steve James in the Times. He had a long county career and played only a few Tests but his writing about batting techniques and the difficulties facing top-class bowlers is excellent. A must-read for me over the likes of Michael Atherton
-
Top player in his day, a bit more than decent. He's right though isn't he? Playing "exciting" cricket is pointless if you lose
-
Long tail as stated and Bairstow fumbling more catches and stumpings Woakes has an excellent record at Lord's and would have been my pick instead of Tongue Not good.
