  1. Pro footballers run on average 7 - 10 miles during a game. Pre-season training is very hard and intense and involves a lot of distance running to get the miles in the players legs to see them through the long, nine-month season. Most amateur players would collapse in a heap after the first day. Once the games start and the players begin playing often 2 games a week the hard stuff eases down and much of their' time is spent ticking over from a fitness point of view, concentrating on match fitness and resting and recuperating from games. Even so, if the squad isn't playing well or had a few bad results, managers often send players out to do the distance stuff again. All sports require different types of fitness and participants train accordingly but to dismiss football as "not physically demanding" is plain wrong.
  2. Dack's body shape is not that of "natural athlete" and he's the sort of lad who needs to work hard at his fitness and playing regularly to be at his best but coming back from two ACLs would be hard for any player. If you're saying he didn't work hard to get back on the pitch after 2 career-threatening injuries you're clearly wrong As far the rest of the post there's so much wrong it's difficult to know where to start. The bits in bold are nonsense.
  3. This is most diaappointing Mike. We were reliably informed by the experts that Bologna are deffo playing at Ewood as part of a pre-season tour.
  4. Good shout. Usually worth the admission money alone - a wonderful player in his pomp. But apparently he didn't like Rovers fans so, fuck him eh?
  5. "Where did it all go wrong, George"? asked the hotel porter on delivering champagne to George Best's room and finding him with Miss World on a bed covered with his casino winnings
  6. And the stones fall far and wide
  7. And some fell on stony ground.....
  8. Deffo another cockup by Rovers. They could have arranged a nice little preseason trip for fans to enjoy in lovely Bologna but instead we’re off to the delights of Barnsley. This lot can’t get anything right can they? Deffo
  9. Leach now ruled out of Ashes series with back injury. Anderson and Robinson have injury issues Stokes obviously unlikely to bowl because of a knee problem Archer ruled out for the summer (again) And then there's the walking wicket (against decent bowlers) of Zack Crawley Typical
  10. Looks like we're lucky to have Mr Waggott running our illustrious football club. Rovers fans are so ungrateful
  11. Excellent letter and an object lesson in how to communicate with fans, although I'm not sure they will agree that the "journey" is going well at present. And no, I can't ever see any such missive coming out of Ewood Park under the current regime
  12. Brian Clough always said with the advent of live TV that eventually they'll have to let football fans in for free
  13. Yes I was going to post the same. Good wingers were always exciting. Alf Ramsey had alot to answer for
  14. Lovely player was Waggy. Left foot like a claw, beat a man and cross the ball. Great passer too. Never won an England cap which is a shame considering some of the dross that won multiple caps in the years since he played. Died 10 years ago, aged 70. It's a shock to see him in the youtube video.... this is how I remember him.
  15. Blimey, where do you begin when the whole place needs a shake-up from top to bottom? Rovers as a club needs a reset and nothing will be achieved by tinkering at the edges. In an an ideal Venky-free world and decent funding, I'd start at the source of all the problems and and clear out the entire management team.
  16. Poor Barnsley. They didn't deserve that
  17. Sky commentator: on the disallowed goal ......."the greatest goal at Wembley never to count and the greatest goal celebration never to count" This man is a genius
  18. Barnsley goalkeeper made "one of the greatest saves in the history of Wembley stadium" Sky commentator in hyperbole shock
  19. I worked with some Sheffield Wednesday fans - like many supporters of "big city" clubs they had an over-sized view of their stature and importance and they didn't have a good word to say about Rovers too. On the basis that town clubs (even Yarkshire ones) are generally preferable to city clubs, Barnsley it is.
  20. Brilliant technique with all of those goals, balance, poise, head down, toe down, hit the laces through the ball. Sheer brilliance
  21. Football history goes back alot farther than the "Premiership" It matters BTW, the Premiership doesn't exist any more. It's the Premier League (not EPL)
  22. Domestic League First Division/Premier League Champions (9): 1890–91, 1914–15, 1927–28, 1931–32, 1938–39, 1962–63, 1969–70, 1984–85, 1986–87[99] Runners-up (7): 1889–90, 1894–95, 1901–02, 1904–05, 1908–09, 1911–12, 1985–86 Second Division/Championship Winners (1): 1930–31[99] Runners-up (1): 1953–54 Cups FA Cup Winners (5): 1905–06, 1932–33, 1965–66, 1983–84, 1994–95[99] Runners-up (8): 1892–93, 1896–97, 1906–07, 1967–68, 1984–85, 1985–86, 1988–89, 2008–09 Football League Cup Runners-up (2): 1976–77, 1983–84[99]
  23. I'd hope Rovers fans would do the same - shows they care
  24. Luton Town in the Premier League Looooton chuffing Town. And Bournemouth. And Brentford. And Brighton And some of our "supporters" say we're at our right level and should be thankful Luton I give up
