v West Bromwich Albion (a) - 13/1/24

The state of that team. Obviously its on the owners how stretched we are. Only 8 subs including 2 who can only do 10 minutes each and one who will never come on. But weve just signed a left back and an attacking midfielder. When our first choices are ill, why not just bloody play them? Instead of playing 2 players out of position instead of Chrisene and Garrett as a number 10. West Brom look stretched too. -

Do you think Ennis, Telalovic and Leonard are better? Would you sell even if the money wasnt available to reinvest? -

Because amidst his limitations, he is am average Championship striker. Therefore a considerable improvement on any other striker we have. -

Business wise at a normal club, a fairly decent fee for a player with essentially 18 months left would make sense. Sell him on and replace. Here, people lose focus of the fact that firstly, Gallagher for all of his limitations is far better than any of our other "strikers" and that the money would vanish. So its a tough one. -

I didnt see such a post but if it did exist, I suspect it was as reputable as some of your pearlers. Nearly every prediction of yours is a thrashing either way. -

When you are looking forward to the likes of Pears, Gallagher, Dolan and Hedges returning and need it as soon as possible, it perhaps shows the current state of the squad. They would all genuinely improve not only the squad but the team. Gallagher is a lot better than the other 3 strikers who all shouldn't be around the first team, Pears is a mistake waiting to happen yet somehow is less error prone than the current clown, Dolan often flatters to deceive and Hedges likewise but is a step up from the underwhelming Moran. The problem is that its unlikely that they will come back and we will avoid other injuries that will still leave us short. -

Are you sure it wasn't just that our managers kept declining transfer funds that the owners had put forward each winter? Awful is over the top. He was a bit underwhelming, was not the type of player we needed (we now under Venkys get who we can not what we need) and he was neat and tidy without being stand out. We did amazing to finish considering 3 regular starters that I can think of (Pickering, Gallagher, there may be more) were quite so awful! -

What is the Rovers way? If it involves trying to cobble together a team full of graduates and whatever loans we can cobble together, then yeah he certainly has got to grips with it. -

That very short memory is obviously of a string of errors and a total breakdown between keeper and defence. Its hardly a blip after an excellent start. 2 poor keepers, we need a new one. Worth reverting back to Pears in the meantime as surely even he couldnt do any worse than Wahlstedt has been doing. -

For anyone deluded enough to think the current squad has a chance of the play offs. 40 points from 20 games would see us to 72 points. So we are looking at automatic promotion form for a play off chance. Better get winning! -

Is this something youve read and if so, from where? Or just a question you are asking without further information. These vague posts implying news but without context arent really helpful. -

Our social media creating videos celebrating a stream of young players we have borrowed from Brighton whilst our player borrowed from Bournemouth heads back perhaps is a nine indicator of the Venkys reign and how the tables of the 3 clubs including ourselves have turned. By the way, a sign of the quality of local journalism can be seen below. Proof reading non existent. -

It could benefit us long term as well as short term to not stick with our player just because we own him. Even if he was close to being ready which seemingly he isnt, playing 15 games elsewhere is better than once or twice here for his development. He perhaps should have been loaned out in the summer. But we was left having to peddle the "blocking pathways" crap because the owners slashed the budget to the extent that another senior defender was beyond our financial realms. Loaning out Travis now and Buckley in the summer are the sorts of deals that are more detrimental. Losing some of the few more senior and proven options in the squad purely because we have been left that brassic. And yet such has been the lowering down of standards, people justify such deals simply because they arent automatic starters, as if we only need 11 players. -
Im not convinced that hasnt been taken out of context. Its one thing trying to not be put under unrealistic expectations, the usual manager spiel, its a huge illogical jump to imply that he was turning down transfer funds. Which is clearly not true anyway seeing as he wanted Rothwell sold to generate some a week later. But even so, especially considering he has been gone for nearly 2 years. Surely your sole focus then would be on those owners who have seemingly not had a shred of desire since in coming up to 6 years to get promotion. More often than not overseeing windows in which we either had to sell more than we could buy or at least nominal funds were left available for transfers. For some reason, that is never your focus. You dont say anything against the owners repeatedly at all, you occasionally take on replies to your post with a brief admission of guilt on their behalf before deflecting back to Mowbray/Waggott/Broughton etc. It would have been in Mowbrays best interests to get promoted, he couldnt do it, he wasnt capable, but he clearly tried and fell short. Under these owners, any manager is up against the odds.

It tells you how normalised us jettisoning important players has become that so many are championing us lending out our captain and one of a very small number of Championship quality players we have. Its all in the name of budget slashing. Any normal club would have looked to keep him as he is still an important player in the squad. He is our third best midfielder, has proven his worth over a long period as Championship quality and we are one injury away from either a graduate with maybe 10-15 league starts max or a young number 10 becoming a regular. And any normal club wouldnt have such a deficit of experience upon losing a 26 year old. -
Its just nonsensical deflection tactics. If he had achieved promotion he would have been in for a pay rise, it was in his best interests to get promoted. It shouldnt have been a case of "when we had the chance" anyway. What sort of ownership oversees a potential sole opportunity in over a decade to get promoted? The idea of Mowbray being granted a warchest mid transfer window and declining it is blatant rubbish. Especially when he was so annoyed that he wasnt granted the autocracy to get a fee for Rothwell to bring some players in. Do you hold any blame towards the owners for the current shit show this season, specifically off the pitch with the massive budget cuts and refusal to sign players of experience?

He mentioned when Travis went about his wages. Every decision at the moment seems to be driven by cost cutting, not about what is best for the team. -
We are in no mans land in the league, we would likely need automatic promotion from now until the end of the season to threaten the play offs. A big ask even if our squad wasn't as thin and poor as it is compared to recent years, so that isn't happening. Equally, even with us faltering lately, it would take one hell of a collapse for us to be in serious danger down at the bottom with a buffer and some crap teams down there. I would love us to put some emphasis on the cups, we have a winnable tie and I would go strong with the potential exception of starting Szmodics. Tomasson has a really good record in the cup, it is strange as he often makes wholesale changes, more than Mowbray did so it's not as if his teams have shown more respect necessarily to them but he has done well in them. A black mark last season was the team he put out at home to Forest. Fingers crossed we can go on another run as it could add a bit of excitement to an otherwise potentially underwhelming end to the season,

That would mean Szmodics and Moran in front of either Tronstad or Wharton, leaving one with even more defensive work to do and the other not playing. I think the Tronstad, Wharton and Szmodics combination is the one area of the team that isnt causing a headache. Moran should be adding competition but remains in the team week in week out from a wide role because the owners wouldnt allow the loan signing of a wide man that we had lined up on deadline day. -

He obviously wouldnt displace Szmodics and because under these restrictions the transfer policy is to get what we can and not what we need, we dont have any competent wingers bar Sigurdsson with Hedges out injured. -

People keep saying if he gets a regular run, if he plays down the middle, if he becomes more selfish etc year on year. He wont suddenly become a more selfish or more aggressive striker. He is what he is, an average Championship striker who will get you 8-10 goals each year. That still makes him considerably more useful than Ennis, Telalovic and Leonard, and our best striker, as frustrating as he is. A nice touch? Must not have watched the same player. -

Gelhardt is a name that came up a lot last season, absolutely not what we need. Another flighty number 10 type who struggled when played as a striker for Sunderland. Mind you, it is Nixon, still baffles me that people pay their hard earned to read the shite he spouts. O'Riordan again doesnt scream a solution now to our defensive woes. That will likely require a change of tact from the manager. We have a bunch of defenders some of whom are proven at this level but are our out of form and being left exposed. Gallagher would be a loss, but as ever finance is the primary focus. For all of his limiations, he is clearly our best striker just by being bang average.
