Well, not really. Its just one persons opinion against another, not what will happen. No, and thats the point. No one has seen Duru play senior football. Gent at least has a bit of senior experience, but I dont agree with reducing the number of signings assuming that youngsters are ready. We did it with Batty last season and he wasnt ready and we left ourselves short. We did it with Vale and he wasnt good enough. We can't just assume that young lads who have never played are ready, based on pre season. If they come through, bonus. £7m is unrealistic because we have terrible owners, with history of not reinvesting sales, and crucially at the moment fighting an ongoing legal case of their own making which wont be cleared until at least August. We need to gut the squad. We need 2 goalkeepers really but at least 1. A couple of full backs as we only have 2 senior full backs. One or two centre backs. A couple of wingers. A couple of strikers. An attacking midfielder and maybe a central midfielder. We wont get all that, or even close, but thats what is needed. Szmodics was £2m, Brittain £900k and Hyam £1.5m I think. According to the LT. Deciding to have only one senior player in any position based on the youngsters performances in pre season is incredibly flawed. Pre season is all about fitness, the games are uncompetitive and often against lower league opposition. We saw 2 years ago that Vale scored a few in pre season and he turned out to be nowhere near good enough. To a lesser extent Leonard played much of pre season last season but wasnt ready to play as much as he did. Its also very limiting to just rule out signings from abroad as you are then fishing in a very small and crowded pond. Youve obviously got to do due diligence as weve recently signed players like Telalovic from very poor levels, but it shouldnt be "British signings only" as a strict rule. It doesnt help having to wait for our terrible owners to communicate a budget allowing other teams to steal a march. Talk of £7m being spent seems beyond unrealistic at this stage.

The lack of a left back and the void of central midfielders aside from Rice is a huge concern. As is the inevitable selection of Maguire. We really need to hope that Kane isnt either carrying his injury into the tournament or even misses out entirely as that would be a potentially fatal blow.

Jackson is purely guessing but we certainly wont spend above £7m, that is a very safe bet.

Rashford shouldnt be anywhere near the squad and if he is it would be as much of an issue as Henderson, who at least is in a position of weakness. Same for Grealish. Out wide we have Saka, Foden if he plays there, Gordon, Bowen, Palmer should go and can play there. Maddison is another who would be very lucky to be included.

He seems quite oustpoken so yes, if say a Prem club had gone to sign him, then pulled out and arranged a loan, then messed up the paperwork in such an unprofessional and for other clubs (not ours sadly) unprecedented way, denying him a massive pay increase and the chance of a life time. The money gesture was clearly tongue in cheek, but yeah, the financial benefit of coming to England would be a big one. Just as it would be if someone offered to considerably multiply your wage (and give you a platform to potentially better yourself) and then a move fell through for unacceptable reasons, you would be bitter.

Even with the likes of Wharton and Mainoo, they are clearly talented but they cannot be considered on par with the very best in Europe. I think Holland have a good squad. They have a brilliant set of centre backs, probably the best in the tournament with Van Dijk, De Ligt, Ake, De Vrij and Van De Ven, Maatsen and Frimpong as wing backs who have had really good seasons and some really good central midfielders. Their issue might be in attack, players like Depay, Simons, Gakpo and Malen give them lots of pace but they arent at the same level as the attacks of England, France etc.

They are one of few exceptions that didnt feel the need to invade the pitch to be fair.

I do get the arguments about the spontaneous game that has been somewhat left behind. But if we scrap it we are accepting a massive decrease in accuracy. So its whatever people feel is the lesser of two evils. There is no non VAR alternative that will significantly turn the dial in terms of correct decisions.

I dont doubt that it can improve, but maybe that is partly based on unrealistic expectations that no errors will ever be made using VAR. The argument Wolves put forward was specifically about how it affects the game, apparently anyway. Not about its accuracy or the decisions.

Semi automated offsides would be a big one. Communication is hard because the only way of truly doing that is to show it on the screen but that risks adding pressure to decisions. If you want accuracy, you keep VAR. If you want a quicker game/players able to freely celebrate etc then you scrap it. As far as I am concerned, if it is scrapped, people in favour cant then keep moaning about bad decisions. Pie in the sky ideas about former players are not going to make much difference even if they are willing to do it, but I dont see how failed footballers could be able to profess to "know the game" anyway.

Why would a 20 year old player who hasnt made professional levels have judgement better than his peers to the extent where it would make any significant difference? And even if it did, are there a pool of these that would want to become referees? The stuff about the game being slowed and/or losing the spontaneous nature is a seperate argument. But using technology is the only way to considerably increase (not to 100%) the accuracy of decisions.
