  1. I think all people are happy for him. I went to the pub on Friday obviously expecting England to win, and was obviously dissapointed at full time. The pub then put Chile on and I was buzzing (of course aided by alcohol) when he scored. I dont see how my post was in any way snide. I do think both on the pitch with his initial couple of years where he didnt look like a footballer at all, coupled with the social media perception of him with team mates quick to make jokes at his expense, and then of course the strangeness to his recent exploits (if it was another player qualifying for say another country within the UK, not half as interesting as the player from Stoke playing for Chile v Bolivia) that when he does do something good, its just so easy to warm to him. I remember in his first season when we played Bolton in a dead rubber and he scored and I genuinely felt so happy for him, as did the whole stadium, contrary to the myth at the time that anyone "wanted him to fail." Of course a big compliment to him would be that last season has very much seen a level of output that his first 2 seasons didnt even hint at, whilst it was probably average all in all, he has very much made himself a much more important member of the squad with so much more to be optimistic about. Talk about being close to justifying the fee, well thats just getting caught up in Chile fever, but we should be prioritising a new deal which I never thought id say a year ago.
  2. Do people not sense the element of patronisation that comes with the current adulation of Brereton's eligibility for career? Because of his dreadful first 2 years in which case football seemed a foreign concept (obvious improvement third year without convincingly succeeding) and occasional clips of him off the field being painted as a bit thick has really all helped him to create this cult hero status.
  3. If we have people on the fans forum that are actively advising our incompetent CEO on how to best manipulate planned price hikes, then we really are screwed. For the young adult situation, it seems that the key is communication. The value of a £10 code per game will have already had, but make that clear last season, dont hide it in the small print. Waggott is a charlatan. The mosiac thing seems like a gimmick anyway but again, why discriminate against ages? If anything, younger people may want something like that more.
  4. Waggott always finds a way to scree someone over, seems that young adults are the primary sufferers this time. Personally, my season ticket will be reasonably cheap due to last seasons discount although that was not something that Waggott could legally wriggle out of and not something that warrants credit. Our minimum prices of season tickets compared to other Championship clubs do not compare particularly favourably. Waggott does not understand the fan base and the sooner he fucks off the better.
  5. You must see the hypocrisy in what you say. You dont need to justify not going under Coyle but equally you have no right for others who may make the same choice with Mowbray.
  6. 100%. He is nothing close to a legend, that word is thrown around so much. I would look at his Rovers career on the pitch, pretty decent for his first 6 months under Lambert, then unwanted under Coyle, then he had his best 6 months when Mowbray came in, scored 3 or 4 screamers that turned out to be false dawns, but in general was as good as anyone in that spell although it ended in relegation. I actually thought that his work on the pitch (his leadership was clearly important) was mixed even in League 1. Was fairly ineffective out wide for half the season before starting to become a utility man, he had that one game against Shrewsbury in the middle that he somewhat lives off, he then remained in CM and that Shrewsbury game seemed to be a flash in the pan, before he was moved to fill in at full back. Since we have got promoted, he has not been of the standard, I dont just think as a right back but anywhere. So for me, as a player, not particularly good, not even a huge signing at League 1. As a person, an exemplary professional who had the right effort and commitment to help swing the tide back somewhat. Wish him well though.
  7. Glad hes gone, cant doubt his effort or character but hes been well below the standard for 3 years. The inevitable outpouring of appreciation will be and is a little over the top. Good luck though. This amateur journalist sees him as a potential right centre back!
  8. It wasnt a great one for the team but it would have been even worse if Armstrong wasnt here. With not many goals in the squad otherwise and further saddled by "mediocre Mowbray" as you say, looks bleak sadly.
  9. I havent seen him a lot but saw him in the 3 play off games and also a couple of times during the season and he was pretty good. He didnt score when I watched but I was impressed with the way he led the line, showed intelligence in linking things and holding up the play. Lacks Armstrongs' blistering pace though and despite an impressive goal tally, got less goals in a lesser league. At the end of the day though, we arent going to find an alternative as good as Armstrong, or indeed as prolific. 28 goals (the most without penalties) in the league was remarkable and even if we had 5m/10m to spend, could we get a striker to score that many goals? No chance. Thats why with the same manager, its hard to add them up and end up with us improving.
  10. If there is one thing that is obvious, there is nothing we can do to influence our disinterested owners. Protest, boycott, planes, marches, nothing works. Out of interest, did you do anything at the time to change it?
  11. Why would there be no point in moving? Fulham are just coming down with a far superior squad and presumably with a big chance of promotion. We are going backwards as shown in our league position and closer to the bottom than the top. Regarding your question, I pay little notice to tittle tattle regarding where he may or may not go. All I would guess is that it will be late in the window and without adequate replacement.
  12. You may well have answered this so apologies if so and I appreciate that this isnt directly the point that you are arguing. But, putting any predictions as to what would happen after regarding who we appoint or moreso who Venkys would appoint to one side, if the decision was down to you, would you sack Mowbray or keep him, does he deserve to keep his job in your opinion? For what its worth, like yourself and despite my own pessimism at the moment around the club, I dont intend to change my spending habits either. I will get a season ticket when they finally pull their fingers out of their arses, and I dont buy shirts or overpriced rubbish from the club shop anyway. It makes no difference to the club anyway in that if season tickets were very low it wouldnt make a difference. The owners dont care, that is obvious. I feel like there is a sudden surge of hypocrisy and also people retreating to their ivory towers again all of a sudden. I got a season ticket even when we had Kean and Coyle, I dont have those levels of despair but I am struggling to be positive and indeed am enjoying the distraction of the Euros. I dont like how some people try and question other peoples support based on whether they continue to attend etc. It should be the clubs desire to get those fans in, not the duty of some fans to shame others.
  13. The hypocrisy of such words from someone who refused to attend under Coyle surely isnt lost on you? No one has to justify their attendance or moreso lack of to anyone.
  14. I suspect that he is at the top of our wage structure coming from Newcastle and it hardly sounds as if we could offer much if anything in the way of a rise. Its hardly as if we rescued him from the scrapheap, we loaned a young player who made a big contribution in our promotion and has scored plenty of goals at this level for us. Its a short career, you cant expect blind loyalty from a player when he can see that we arent going anywhere fast when he could get a big move to play at a higher level on a higher wage. Ambition is the order of the day for a player/person in that situation.
  15. I suspect that me and you would be close to the Gibraltar squad if we was eligible.
  16. Out of interest, based on what we saw last season on the pitch and on a wider scale just everything about the club at the moment, negligent owners, failing management, impending sale of key player, CEO incompetence etc, would "justified pessimism" be antagonistic in your eyes or understandable considering everything? I think personally that Rovers are a bigger club, bigger stadium, training facilities, recent history etc. Sideways step I meant as in from one Championship club to another. We are more established as A Championship squad but run by aforementioned shit owners who dont care enough to stop an incompetent manager from taking us backwards. Blackpool have a bright and talented manager and new ownership who seem to really care. Hes a central player there literally and metaphorically who would probably end up on the wing here. I would say that our squad at the moment is better so theres pros and cons for him. Ultimately all of the above reasons are of little importance compared to the main reason to go from one Championship club to another, money. Id like to think that we can offer a Blackpool player more should we want to but with their new owners and our managers every other word being "covid" then im not entirely confident of that anymore. We have strikers that could get 20 plus goals at League 1 level in our academy at this moment in time? All touched on above, I struggle to muster enthusiasm on how Mowbrays new side minus our key 3 attackers will shape up next season at this moment in time. You seem to have reverted back to type on the subject which is your choice.
  17. Yates impressed in the play offs and looks a good all round striker. But he might consider it a sideways move, and would we pay the money? End of the day, he seems to have an active agent but even if he did sign, no one will equal the goal output of our departing striker. With the same manager, that spells further regression sadly. Thats before you consider the loss of Elliott.
  18. With a year to go and our club totally rudderless, he would be crazy to sign a new deal.
  19. Newcastle have got a pretty shoddy squad of players, hard pushed to argue otherwise in my opinion.
  20. Would take half of that personally which is still a decent amount and more than I suspect that he would generate.
  21. Very peculiar story but interesting to see how this comes back to his Rovers career. Doubt that hes done loads to attract other suitors but with a year left on his deal, will he want to sign any longer? Will these breaks hinder him or help him? I must say and this may be me being miserable, hes a big money signing who has done very little over a 3 year period, obvious improvement last year granted, but the "we couldn't be more proud" nonsense on twitter from the club seems over the top to me. The Chile angle obviously provides the mystique. I think Keith Andrews has shared an international pitch with Messi!
  22. Since he signed, he has done more on social media than he has in a Rovers shirt.
  23. Whether you see the logic in anyone buying one or not, there are people who are waiting to buy one ready with their money. It shows how disorganised the club is considering how starved of income they will have been during the pandemic. That is before you come onto the conversation of keeping fans in the loop.
