  1. Both will leave big holes but id much prefer Lenihan to stay out of the 2.
  2. Also, what Woodgate inherited at Boro is much more similar than Bournemouth. He will be coming here with our top scorer set to leave, a key midfielder having already left, a key loan centre back having gone back and our captain set to go.
  3. Alan Myers isnt a good source, he said Unsworth was a serious candidate but says in the LT too.
  4. Lenihan leaving it seems, would be a huge blow.
  5. Thats the point, under our shit owners we are only after the desperate. Im guessing that you wouldnt be happy with Pearce, Cocu or Woodgate for example? Mowbray would be better which tells you everything.
  6. From what I have seen, Venkys have never mentioned FFP and its rare that its brought up in the minutes at fans forums or even by the manager, the recent line has always been the owners struggling in India with the pandemic. For some reason, those most keen to defend the owners have created an assumption that FFP is the only thing stopping the owners from investing more money. The pitch last season was an example of a crack in that fictional theory.
  7. I didnt say that you had personally recommended those candidates, I was saying that you had named loads who you think might be on this supposed list to hedge your bets. Your list was full of dross who id hope we wouldnt touch with a ten foot barge pole, then again with seemingly a small budget and strict limits on staff, the list becomes small straight away. Also add other dross like Grayson, Adkins, Ferguson, Unsworth, Pardew, there are loads of shit options around. Out of interest, aside from a bit of work in a totally different role working with the kids, how do you know that Johnson should stay yet the other 2 should go, how can you possibly be privy to their individual merits? Ultimately, any new manager should be allowed autonomy to decide which of the staff they want to keep and its a huge limiting factor not to allow it, but I dont get how you have individual opinions on our specific coaching staff members. I think the key is not to expect anything soon and to expect the worst with our owners.
  8. So it could very well likely see no appointment even next week according to that, and the staff issue is embarrassing and will really diminish any lingering hope of a decent appointment. The whole club has been run like this for 12 years. Waggott is seemingly not competent to do his role based on other parts of his remit so when he is tasked with this amidst big limitations (budgetary considering the fact that the staff are seemingly staying regardless) and also a total lack of autonomy as everyone has leading to big delays, its an absolute car crash. You've certainly hedged your bets by naming all of them, and quite frankly its a pretty depressing bunch, most of whom I would like to think will be nowhere near, especially Stuart bloody Pearce! What I don't get is that with Waggott and indeed with Mowbray, you only when really pushed give Venkys any blame for leaving these people in situ indefinitely. You speak as if these are chancers purposely ruining our club and Venkys are innocent bystanders with no power to do anything. You also seemingly are under the impression that Venkys willingness to spend is indefinite and for some reason, it is Waggott who is insisting that staff are kept to penny pinch and the owners aren't aware of it. Not even touching on the fact that Lowe for example has been here for twice as long as him. If Waggott recommended a good manager and he was appointed and did well, that would look far better on him than going out of his way to ensure that staff stay to penny pinch, that can't be his decision. Waggott would likely see his salary rise and strengthen his job security if we went up on the back of that.
  9. That I found it strange that posts especially that one from roverandout regarding "blubbering" that people have gone from wanting Scotland to lose to wanting them to win because Ukranian players keep crying about the war.
  10. You can say that across the board that you dont know for sure, in theory we could appoint Kean or Coyle again and there would be slither of a chance of a succesful season. But the prices Rovers charged and the time you need to dedicate to go every other week means that some people will be unsure from the start whether to renew. A cheap appointment not only reduces the chances (not eliminates) of success but it might also feel like a further slap in the face after 12 years that the penny still hasnt dropped and likely never will.
  11. So is the reason for people wanting Ukraine to lose that they keep getting upset over their country being war torn?!
  12. You are so keen to protect the common denominator in the last 12 years that you repeatedly come up with nonsencial conspiracies to deflect blame from them! Why would Waggott be so keen to pinch the pennies and appoint an inferior replacement (which isnt even his final decision) that he purposely pushes away better managers? It would surely look better on him to appoint someone good? The not signing a cheque statement is a running joke and obviously not true and the 20m is a necessity, not a choice. But its their continious processes and negligence even above regular witholding of finance that have run right through 12 years of woe, not individual members of staff, even if they are incompetent.
  13. Whats crazy is that there are people who haven't figured out the common denominator after 12 years and genuinely believe change is coming and the owners care. Mowbray was focused on, Waggott is focused on, the former was a steady manager who had run his course, the latter a seemingly incompetent CEO, but neither is or was the problem.
  14. Pardew wouldn't tie in to the idea that the second round of interviews most likely features people surely from the first round as he has only left CSKA today. That being said, he does fit the Venkys remit of a random desperado appointed from nowhere.
  15. Where are these people, aside from one on this forum has been swooned by their regular chats over a cup of tea and a biscuit?
  16. McCarthy finished 14th at Ipswich in his first season, having taken over in the relegation zone in November. He then finished 9th, 6th and 16th, it did go stagnant in the end but he was working on a miniscule budget, if I remember rightly the only fee he paid in the first 3 years or so was 10k for Tyrone Mings (I think) so he was working with miniscule resources. I don't want him here but he did a good job at Ipswich and they have only gone downhill since. I don't think Pardew's time at CSKA Sofia warrants much analysis to be honest. seems like he was only appointed on the 15th April. They have played 5 league games of which he won 1, lost 1 by 5 goals to nil and drew the other 3, lost a second leg of a semi final 2-0 but went through on penalties and then lost the final of the same cup.
  17. Pardew is one of the more depressing names I have read so far, not least because he would be on par with Nathan Jones as the biggest knobhead in the league and perhaps the country as a manager, because its all about results. But his recent CV does not suggest that he would be a good appointment, and is generally a massive mixture of doing a decent job at a couple of places mainly a long time ago and also littered with a few failures. You can't possibly know that. The lack of speed and proactivity going into the process considering that the owners seemingly knew months ago that Mowbray wasn't staying yet didn't bother to put a succession plan in place, plus even then, the second round of interviews, the additions to shortlists, its all painstaking, so its understandably been met with criticism heaped upon a lack of faith in the owners and the executives already. Surely that can't have helped his decision when he had a guaranteed job lined up, we don't know if he made the second round of interviews, he may have been fed up at the waiting, he was mulling over a 1 in 3 or 4 chance here perhaps v a guaranteed one elsewhere, he felt messed around, there is plenty of potential additional reasons that led him to go abroad. And yes I am sure money played a part, and Venkys seemingly will never appreciate the importance of allocating a decent budget on a manager. Why do you seemingly see going to a better paid job as a slight on his personality, wouldn't you? What do you get from the messageboard, a place whereby people share and debate their opinions on Rovers, if you look down upon posters as wannabee managers who should have applied for the job if they have the sheer arrogance to share those opinions.
  18. My point was that yes there were 60 applicants, but it wouldn't take long to whittle a large proportion of them down. I don't see the number of applicants as a major hindrance to getting the manager appointed in a timely manner, in fact I would presume that most if not all vacancies in the top 2 or 3 divisions see a large number of applicants as we seemingly have done. Whatever they were, as per usual, they werent carried out properly, hence my assumption that they don't really give a shit. If they ever intended to extend Mowbrays' contract (before you go off on a tangent, I know he should have gone) then they never bothered to communicate at all regarding that. If they didn't, then if they had any genuine interest in our football club, then they would have started to scope out potential replacements in advance. That clearly isn't the case.
  19. If there was a local mafia, surely that could still qualify under the "local company that employs local people that wants to sponsor its local football club" should it request a place on the front of the shirt? Meaningless twaddle. It seems strange to me to dismiss betting companies based on moral principles then only to incorporate a sponsor that presumably pays less but also is questionable on the morality issue?
  20. Pathetic as always, embarrassing as always.
  21. Out of those 60 applicants, it would surely take about 10 minutes to whittle out a huge proportion of dross. People like Grayson and Adkins probably applied, in 5 seconds there, 2 CV's in the bin, down to 58.
  22. Only in exceptional circumstances. Liverpool spent the majority of that season without any defenders, with Van Dijk, Matip and Gomez all injured. The owners clearly had no intention of extending Mowbray's contract months and months ago, so in reality, they have had months to have someone lined up. But why specifically today, may I ask, should the announcement have been?
  23. There is a lot of talk about how the new manager needs to really promote youth which to an extent is true but I don't think an expectation to bring loads more through imminently is fair or realistic. That doesn't mean that I think veterans should be brought in, players (often considered hard men) in their mid 30's well past their best, but players with good experience to compliment a very young core. Obviously much of this will come down to money so over to you Venkys... Forget the unproven kids for a second, the likes of Vale and Pike who have struggled in non league in recent times or players like Phillips, A.Wharton and Garrett, even Brown who is a bit older, if one or two break through then a big bonus but maybe the immediate focus should be on loans for many of them. But the bones of the squad still under contract are all predominantly young. Look beyond Dack, Kaminski and the lesser seen Ayala, and to a lesser extent Hedges and Gallagher who are in the middle. You have the likes of Travis and Wharton, established senior players at 24, (as well as Edun as a squad player) Pickering (and Brereton but discard him as he will be sold) is 23, Buckley is 22, Carter is back from a loan spell and is 22, Rankin Costello (although he perhaps needs to move on) is 22, Dolan is 20 and Markanday has less than an hour of senior football and is 20. We could do with 2 or 3 (maybe Lenihan is one) players perhaps in their peak years.
  24. Interesting does not accurately summarise a constant wave of people everywhere claiming to know who is being interviewed and who has got the job, only to constantly turn out to be false. Who cares who gets linked, think of all of the names that have been linked that turned out to be bullshit, the magical 47 managers, none of which will be at Ewood Park it seems next season.
