  1. We had a great record at St. James' Park. We won five on the spin there from 2006-11. This one was particularly sweet. Can't beat a 90th minute winner:
  2. We were that club. Right up until the bastards arrived in 2010, we were reaching cup semi finals, with experience and quality across the squad. They and their advisors threw it all away. Swag can FO with his "generous owners" bollocks. What Brighton and Villa are doing today is what Rovers were doing for years. On Brighton, their recruitment has been fantastic and it's good to see them upsetting the big boys, and playing good stuff whilst doing it too. Their hierarchy cares, properly cares, and they are serious about doing well. No bullshitters there, no waffle, just action. A bit like a club I used to know.
  3. That Spurs defeat was tough to take. We were excellent for most of that game and certainly didn't deserve to come away with nothing. It was an important game in the race for fourth place and that defeat felt like a big blow. Had we beaten Spurs that day we would have been joint 4th with them, with 10 games remaining. Instead, they opened up a 6 point lead over us. It all sounds wild now, but a Champions League place was truly up for grabs at one stage that season with Arsenal faltering and Spurs being Spurs. What a season overall though, with Bellamy playing a big part in us being in the mix. I can't decide which goal of his I like more, his second against Boro or his first against Portsmouth with his left foot, shooting across goal. The other two in those games are quality in their own right too.
  4. A gobby get, but he was superb for us during his one season stay. Talk about having a cutting edge upfront. Exciting times, they were.
  5. I had the same thought when I saw the new recruitment team and their backgrounds in the game, as I do now seeing the Head of Marketing. Amateur hour. Is it any wonder the marketing side of things leaves a lot to be desired? Is it any wonder this brand spanking new recruitment team has nothing much to show for the last two windows?
  6. Gallant failure in the end, is what it is. It will likely be dressed up as being a terrific effort from a young side, who just missed out, in some quarters. If we had finished in this position after occupying a mid table/lower half position for most of the season, I would agree with that. But not like this. The reality is, it was in our hands, and we threw it away. Yes, they did well to get into that position in the first place, but personally, I can't look at the way the season ended and hold a "nobody expected this in August, what a great effort" outlook. Brereton disappeared when it mattered over recent months, we conceded late goals when it mattered over recent months, we squandered many great chances, Hyam turned nervy at pressure moments, the Sheff United cup defeat was a body blow. All of that is what did it for us, not today. It was a good second half performance today, we looked better without Travis in the middle, and we could go on to achieve something if JDT is backed with the right signings. The latter is the entire issue though. He might have seen enough already in January with that fiasco, to think "I'm out". We aren't far away, but the running of the club is a mess and is what is costing us over and over again. It's a sickener to see us come back from two goals down to win a game TODAY, on the final day, when it ultimately counts for little. Where has this been all season? It's a sickener that BBD turns up today to score twice after months of no shows. Where has he been for months on end? It's a sickener to think that simply holding on to a 1-0 lead against either one of Preston or Coventry would have been enough for us to make the top 6. It's a sickener to see Mowbray sneak a 6th place finish and for us to help him do it. Sickener is the word. I'll tell you what else is pissing me off. The thought of somebody sitting in his office hoping that the January debacle is soon forgotten about by the fans. We won't forget. Silvester out. Waggott out.
  7. Utter shit. Game gifted to Millwall. A disgrace to the club and the shirt these players are.
  8. Beauty from young Adam. That lad is class. Millwall are rocked here. Game on again.
  9. Weird feeling, as there is some excitement based on the fact that there is still a chance. Then I remember the dismal run we have been on leading up to this and the golden opportunities we have thrown away. That's when the hope starts to fade. We've had far too many meaningless final days, so the fact tomorrow has everything to play for is a big plus. However, I can't help but feel disappointed at how we have got into this position from where we were. We should have been sat comfortably inside the play offs with all the chances we have had. I can't console myself with "nobody expected us to be in this position" or "it's about next season". We have been in a good position for most of the season, credit to JDT and the players for that. Once in that position, we should have seen it through. It's not all on the manager though, as he was severely let down in January by those above him. For once under this lot's reign, let's hope something big goes our way tomorrow. I'm not expecting us to do it, but there's always that small chance.
  10. Absolutely. Even Sky Sports are showing up the bullshit for what it is. "There's nothing special about Blackburn Rovers" (Fielder) "Nobody wants to watch us in the Championship" (Some Rovers fans) "We're punching above our weight in this Division" (Some Rovers fans) "We're lucky Venky's are still hanging around, otherwise we could be like Bolton or even worse, Bury" (Some Rovers fans) Sky showing us 20 times this season, miles more than most of the others in this League, says otherwise. Why are they showing us? Maybe it's because we aren't the tinpot, "woe is us", small outfit that the tossers at the club have been trying to condition us into believing for the last 12 years? Maybe it's because Blackburn Rovers still carries some weight? We've had Sky pundits call out the bullshit of Gally playing wide right, they've questioned where our urgency has been in certain games, they've questioned the tippy tappy football when we've needed to look for a winner in recent games, they've even questioned the "adding player value" spiel. Sky can see through the bullshit and are showing it up for what it is, so why are some of our fans lapping up the PR spin and sob story bullshit from dickheads like Waggott?
  11. Shearer was unbelievable in a Rovers shirt. The excitement of going to games at that time was something else. As a kid seeing Shearer at Ewood, I thought it was normal for us to have a striker that good. You do, at that age. It's only later that I truly understood how special it all was and that I had seen the best. Seeing Davies, Ward and Blake a few years later came as a shock 😁. We had some very good strikers after Shearer too, to be fair, but none were quite like him. I always find myself smiling when I hear talk of Haaland, Kane, Rooney, Suarez, Aguero, Henry etc from teenagers or young adults who didn't see the Rovers version of Shearer. All of those players are/were superb in their own right, but we have our own to top theirs and what a feeling that is. I could not believe that he was booed by some on his return to Ewood with Newcastle in 1996. I still can't believe it 27 years on. 112 Premier League goals in four seasons, firing Rovers to a Premier League title and ensuring that Rovers will forever be in the Premier League record books... Alan Shearer. Legend.
  12. A battling striker, who never gave defenders a moment's peace and who could score a few too.
  13. He got a bit of stick at times, but Morten was a class act. Two brilliant goals here. Also a sad example (for us) of how owners can completely change the face of a club. City struck gold, whereas we...
  14. Fair enough. It probably is nostalgia, but I quite miss it myself. I can remember the ground rocking on many an occasion to "barmy army" alone, especially when we were putting the big guns to the sword. Oh well, in with the new then. The main thing is to get an atmosphere going and for us to get out of this Division.
  15. You're right, those two chants are separate and are still around. I'm referring to two other chants though. For as long as I can remember, from early 90's till recently there was a chant where just the words "barmy army" were repeated. "Barmy army, barmy army, barmy army". It now seems to have been replaced by: "Blue and white army, blue and white army, blue and white army". Small thing, but I was just wondering when the latter had started up.
  16. Nice to see Cole come back and the lads having a laugh trying to recreate a couple of his famous goals. I presume he met JDT during this visit and if so, I can imagine how JDT might have felt. Fantastic club, fantastic training ground, but the best striker to have set foot in the building all season is a 51 year old visitor. Andy, please stay! Have to admit, it was a bit embarrassing seeing Dack struggle to name a Rovers player from Cole's time at the club. He guessed at Henning Berg because he (Dack) is/was a United fan.
  17. A minor point, but when did the "barmy army" chant get replaced by "blue and white army" instead, amongst the Rovers fans? I first noticed it during the Sheff United cup game and have been hearing it since, including against Luton. Is it a recent thing?
  18. Yakubu was the last top striker we had, in my view. I view him as being part of our collection of excellent strikers over the last 30 years. Due to age, that collection starts with Shearer for me and ends with the Yak (for now, until these owners piss off and we have an actual will and desire to look for quality again). For him to score 17 League goals that season during such a dark time for the club, with all kinds of problems on and off the pitch, and that odious tosser in the dugout. It says a lot about his ability. It's a shame we didn't sign him a couple of years earlier, before the mess, as I feel his time here is often overlooked. Not due to him, but due to the state of the club at that time and the bad memories of that season. Imagine if we had a 17 goal Yakubu in 09/10 under Big Sam, when the club was still healthy and ambitious. That League Cup could have been ours again.
  19. These days we struggle to score more than one goal a game, but looking back, we have dished out a few impressive beatings in our time. Here are just two of them. Two classy goals from Hakan Sukur in this one: Then we have this from St Andrews. A Tugay stunner and two fantastic assists from Cole:
  20. His first touch was abysmal at times, and he wasn't the cleanest striker of a ball, but I liked how he would use his strength to back into defenders and roll them. Couldn't really be relied upon for goals, but he was a handful whilst Roque and Benni did the real damage alongside him. He did score a few himself too, to be fair. Levels above a lot of the crap we have seen since 2012, a couple of exceptions aside.
  21. A classic from the star of BBC Sport's "finishing masterclass" production. Would still have him over any of our current options, though.
  22. Still alive! Come on, now is the time to complete a comeback.
  23. It's a disgrace that some of these are wearing Rovers shirts. A shocking set of attacking options. Still time though for us to sneak a win. Luton have their minds elsewhere and are there for the taking today. Dack has got to come on at some point. It's set up for a Dack winner.
  24. We won't miss BBD one bit, based on how his time with us is ending. We're playing well up until the final third, where there is sadly no end product or killer instinct. On Luton, they are nothing special and are absolutely doable in the play offs. We need somebody to score a couple for us before that though! Dacky, it's all on you. None of the other attackers can be relied upon.
