By all accounts Alan Mahon is really doing the business down at shyteville. Always quite liked the guy, but was unlucky that we basically saw him as cover for Duff who didn't get injured and was probably our best player at the time. I think Bumley are playing him in the middle though.

Just a thought; with our current midfield problems, perhaps we could borrow him for a while, decontaminate him and we have got ourselves a decent left midfielder. :tu:;)

Well, Wolves aren't flushed with cash and it seems unlikely to me that they'd take a reserve player of no great repute or hype off our hands for 150K AND a sell-on clause. A lot of reserve players from Prem clubs are disappearing into the lower leagues for free because supply is high.

I hope JJ celebrated his goal in a suitably provocative manner.

According to the LET, he celebrated wildly in front of the Jimmy McIlroy stand.

It also says that JJ played because of a calf injiry to Bothroyd and because Carl Cort was also missing.

McCarthy had chased JJ since his days as Sunderland striker.

Sack Hughes for letting him go!

I'm glad to see Jemal doing well. The Championship is probably more his level -- scoring against Burnley and Luton isn't quite the same as scoring against Premiership sides. I wish him the best, especially if the rumored sell-on fee exists!

Amazing what a bit of confidence does. Darlo fans were moaning that they'd rather have got Derbyshire on loan than Jemal Johnson, who finished his loan spell at Darlo as a winger. Now Johnson is starting to score goals in the Championship - although emphasis on 'starting'.

All the best to him. He always seemed to give his all though he never quite had that cutting edge. Maybe he'll be able to develop in the lower leagues and might one day find his way back to the top, if he does I hope that he finds his way back to the blue and white.

I've seen him play twice for wolves and he's been very good. Very pacy player. I'm surprised blackburn let him go if he's been hot in the reserves with 1 every 2 games goal ratio. For blackburn reserves against wolves reserves 2 years ago he was lively and scored goals. I hope his goalscoring form continues. Thanks for selling him to us.

I always wanted us to give him a chance. He did well in the reserves and youth team and it was worth seeing if he could cut it in the Premiership. The main issue with him was his size and he if had been bigger then he may have had more of a chance with us, considering how fast he was. I hope he does well at Wolves.

I know where you are coming from. There is a massive difference between the prem and the championship. But sometimes players need to drop down a division to find their feet. Jemal has only played three games for us and there is a long way to go. Preston fans said he has an attitude problem. I hope he hasn't got an attitude problem but time will tell. It's a gamble really because mccarthy hasn't got any money to spend because of the loss of parachute payments. Mccarthy tried to get alan o neil from newcastle on loan. O neil is a young winger, the fastest player i've ever seen when i saw him in the reserves and i'm peeved we missed out on him. But mccarrthy has got a got eye for a player.

We've taken a chance on jay bothroyd too who i believe played for yourselves and charlton and he's been incredible. He's quick skillful and a powerful shot. Scored two goals for us so far. Looked unfit in pre season but in the league he's been quality and only 24.

We're fifth in the league but we have to keep it up. Would be amazing if we could get in the play offs. Hoddle was awful, very aloof man and who thought he was too good for us.

Good luck to yourselves this season.

I have been watching Jemal Johnson for a number of years now in the reserves. Anyone who thinks he is slight / small now should have seen him when he first started playing in the reserves: he was tiny then and has bulked up no end recently!!. He use to be simply pushed off the ball by strapping by 6 foot 10 inche 16 year old centre backs. However, he always stuck to his task and developed a range of tactics to cope with this including spinning off the ball. He was always good at getting a shot in and sometimes was very direct often to the surprise of defenders. He was always one of the best 2 prospects that I saw in the reserves ( The other being Gallagher who had a great goal scoring record ). He really shone in the reserves and I was somewhat surprised that we let him go as I did not think that he had yet peaked. So good luck to him. I hope he does really well and I will be able to say that I saw him as a youngster and thought he had something special about him.

He got a good write-up in either the Daily Telegraph or the Sunday Telegraph. McCarthy said he had now paid back his transfer fee after scoring the winning goal in 2 matches. He also made a good chance for another player, who missed it.
