Eddie Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Can you have a word with Hughes and tell him that we need another central midfielder?

herbergeehh Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 It's not exactly major news, but young Tony Kane looks to be making an impression on the management. The right back was wanted on loan by a couple of clubs last week but the word came back that he would be involved with the first team squad. He may get a month out on loan later on, but at the moment he is seen as being first-team potential. Looks the pick of the ressies any time I see him. Actually, that is major news. Or at least it's interesting news.. Seeing as Ooijer apparently (I have unfortunately not watched any of the games yet this season due to work) has played badly at right back (?), it would make sense to make him 3rd central defender and let Tony Kane and Bert fight for the right back spot. I for one like Ooijer, but he is a bit on the slow side.

rover6 Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Can you have a word with Hughes and tell him that we need another central midfielder? We have Mokoena - the world's first specialist defensive midfielder who mutates into Darren Peacock if shunted into any other position. Why would we possibly need anyone else?
mike at picture Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Can you turn that into English as it seems to concern me? Who is map? "mike at picture" is a fictional call centre based character who features in an annoying daytime loan advertisement. I couldn't think of anything else at the time! Given the pm I've had I think "Mike" may have run his course so I'll go back to lurking for a while before returning with a less confusing usernane. Anyway back on topic........
Walls Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 NO prediction for the Arsenal game, too difficult. You never know what side Wenger is going to pick. They will have an advangate NOT playing in midweek. If Rovers get ahead they could win this, but I am a bit wary of the Gunners starting bright and scoring. I am pretty sure the manager will be thinking that too. By the way I am told Benni will play. Arsenal did play in midweek. They played one of the Prauge teams I think - although they have had any extra days rest having played the match on Wednesday. As per the last few posts I really hope that Hughes is only resting Emerton and that Ooijer is not his 1st choice RB. Apart from aerial ability Emerton has so much more to offer the team.

Correct - half-asleep. Still too difficult to call.
eddiewac Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Well, i wonder what Wenger is trying to say here... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_2668643,00.html I think he's trying to imply that Hughes tells the team to go out and foul, idiot, i can only guess he tells his players to go out and cheat their way through by any means of diving/play acting and not forgetting intimidating the referee, and usually succeeding
Pugg Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 At first I thought he actually believed that we still play like we did a couple of years ago when we were fighting relegation, but I think he knows exactly what he is doing. He knows we don't play like that anymore but by bringing it up again, he is trying to put pressure on the ref to give them decisions and feed the southern based media who don't do their research.
Mozzer Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 is there any chance blackburn will put a cheeky bid in for bellamy hahaha... liam rosenior has been told he can leave, we should go for him, but seems like tony kane is going to be given a go..

I for one like Ooijer, but he is a bit on the slow side. Agreed, herbergeehh. Reading between the lines, it seemed as if Hughes & Co. had gone quiet on young Andy Taylor, especially when left fullback became a problem area last year. We've also heard nothing from Eddie Nolan, though it would admittedly be difficult for him to break into the side with Nelsen, Samba, Ooijer, Zurab and Mokoena (at least in Hughes' mind) ahead of him. But with right back being somewhat of a problem area, it would make sense to get Kane involved with the squad if they do indeed feel he's good enough. I wonder if that means we'll not be looking as hard for a specialist right back?
Dunnfc Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Emerton is our number 1 right back, then its ooijer and then khizanishvili. Tony Kane is after those 3/4 imo. This is how i see it, Emerton - fantastic at rb, lacks an aerial threat tho but thats not a really big problem unless we play newcastle. Ooijer - slow and more of a cb but it isnt likely hes always going to play rb. Khizanishvili - Mr versatile, can play rb,cb,cm so gives us optitions. Kane - On the fringes of the first team incase the is a injury crisis in defence.
broadsword Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Are you sure those first 3 really are any cop at RB? I think that places you firmly in the minority here ...
Eddie Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I'm happy to see Emerton at right back, although I'd have no complaints if we could find an improvement, but I don't like seeing Ooijer there. I'd actually rather see Zurab playing.
thenodrog Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Emerton would be one of the best right backs in the world if he could defend. He's excellent at getting forward and supporting a winger which blinds us to his dodgy defending.
Ste B Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Emerton would be one of the best left backs in the world if he could defend. He'd be a better right back though.

Dunnfc Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Hes a good full back imo, he suits our style of play and in this transfer market probably worth 4 million. Ooijer is more solid than Emerton but lacks pace and an attacking threat, he also makes Bentley look very poor, but he makes up for this by being an excellent tackler and his distrubution is brilliant. Id rather he plays tommorow so he could stem Arsenals attacking threat.

I know it`s early in the season and at this stage i am too much of an optimist, but i think Arsenal should worry more about OUR attack, than we should theirs.

Also, did not know where to stick this, too scared to start a thread. Has anyone thought of or is anyone interested in a general match thread of some sort where we can all discuss events from the other premier games in one forum. It seems like a good idea to me. I have come on in the past wanting to mention a few events, ref's decisions, over the line incidents, cracking goals etc but never know where to put it so typically I don't and just end up telling the dog what's on my mind. What do the rest of you think?

Seriously though; I think it is a great idea. Just go for it and I am sure it wont be long before it becomes one of the longest threads on this board.
