tcj_jones Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 If Spurs are looking to offload Defoe and there is some truth in the clause in MCarthy's contract, then Hughes might see a deal involving Defoe as the most convenient and value for money opportunity that is likely to rise. Right now, I think our strike force is superb and should not be touched, but if McCarthy is to go for anything less than a massive sum this summer, then I say do it! However, I doubt very much that there has ever been any communication between Rovers and Spurs for Defoe. I wouldn't be too surprised if the calls were being made the other way, regarding Pedersen, mind you. Also, I think that it is far more likely that United would be after Defoe - Ferguson has wanted him ever since he was at West Ham.

tcj_jones Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 The Defoe medical "story" is just made up rubbish posted on a 606 forum. It has no substance and just isn't true.
nicko Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Shabani Nonda has just joined Galatasaray. That's another blow. Backed them for the Turkish title.
-foreverrovers- Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 why o why o why would we swap defoe for pedersen?! it makes no sence watsoever, why are we even talking about it!!? it does make me laugh how fans of other clubs seem to rate pedersen so highly!,all of my friends seem to think he is our best player!,personally i dont want him to go,we have seen what he can do it fits and starts.if he continues his patchy form into january, and we get and offer of 8-9 million for him,id take it,so long as we had time to spend the money on a decent replacement. ....and hughes hinted in his post match interview there maybe a late loan signing today,so he has something in mind surely?! nicko...what do u mean our chairman has gone hiding??...maaaaybe he is locked in a dingey room glued to the phone like the DOND banker trying to tie up a last minute deal?... if something comes up...great,if not then i dont care...(as long as none of our big players do 1 at the last minute!!)
nicko Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 nicko...what do u mean our chairman has gone hiding??...maaaaybe he is locked in a dingey room glued to the phone like the DOND banker trying to tie up a last minute deal?... There is another matter going on at the club just now. The old takeover has to be sorted out one way or another...
1864roverite Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 JW's car allegedly is at the Tickled Trout hotel right this very minute !
nicko Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 The leading trustees were at the game last night, which is unusual. Normally if there is a pow-wow they all meet up in Jersey. I think the takeover decision may be very close. I hope so.
1864roverite Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Its that bird who was right behind you last night Den, the one with three eyes, a seriously lardy bottom and hanging mama's !!
Eddie Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Excellent! Don't you love the smell of desperation (from afar!) ;-) Personally I still think we have a major gap to fill and it is unlikely that we will fill it. I think we are working overtime to convince ourselves that we don't need another central midfielder when there is the prospect of one of the best central midfielders in the world signing for our rivals just down the road. Instead we'll see how many games we can scrape out of Tugay.
Eddie Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Riquelme. Obviously it hasn't happened yet so it may not go through and there may be some people making more out of it than there really is, but at the same time there is obviously something behind it.
LeftWinger Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Who are you referring to, Eddie? Gravesen? lol - I think he means Riquelme
Eddie Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 By the way, I'm not saying that we should go out and sign Riquelme. I think he is a world class player and I'd be delighted to see him sign and it would be odd that if we didn't at least ask about him, but I do understand if the fee and the wages aren't affordable for us. However, what it is least an example of a player who could fill that gap and it looks as if we aren't going to do anything about it.
speeeeeeedie Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Riquelme. Obviously it hasn't happened yet so it may not go through and there may be some people making more out of it than there really is, but at the same time there is obviously something behind it. Riquelme has gone to Atletico Madrid.

Daremz Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 You could have always just read a few pages back Sorry! Simon Cziommer (AZ Alkmaar) to Rovers? Would just be the creative midfielder we need...
