nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Anything new on the Preston/Burnley jobs Alan? Preston - still trying to confirm if their first choice wants it. Some interesting names coming out, but not the one I was told. Burnley - interviewed the first few candidates but not entirely convinced. Simon Grayson's name keeps coming up. But there is a very interesting new name - who could beat them all. I have to keep that one quiet. He's a mate. And DON'T probe on that one please. I don't think they will decide until after the weekend. From what I gather they have big plans and the money to go with it.
rossyste Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Mate whose on the staff at preston tells me russell slade (yeovil) is a definite contender for nob end.......nicko ??
nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Mate whose on the staff at preston tells me russell slade (yeovil) is a definite contender for nob end.......nicko ?? Just found out that the Brian Laws story is now out and official. He is the one they want. However I would not be sure he will get it because there will be compensation etc.

Let's just hope there are locks on the exits. I'd be happier if Mike Newell was being considered for the Preston job. I reckon he could bring them on, if he could keep his gob shut.
USABlue Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 No, briefly slipped into a 70s timewarp listening to a few CDs... Should be Vinyl for a true 70's timewarp.
USABlue Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 You just beat me to it Bish. I was about to say that I am now getting worried as to Reid ever making it back as a Prem player. It is starting to look like he just cannot attain and keep the level of fitness required any more. We have to trust the judgement of the Rovers medical staff and coaches, but it is not looking good. It's got me seriously concerned too, I feel for the lad I really do. He was playing so well, perhaps we need to ease him back even more slowly. I am pulling for him to make it I really am.
modes98 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 nooo! i was gona put 4£ on grayson for burnley at 25/1 but my account wouldnt let me cos i already had one or sumat and now i can the odds have been cut to 11/2! missed out there! I went on this morning and couldn't even find the market. Good news that laws isn't going so grayson should be top target now, well hopefully. Then £100 into the bank and a drink for nicko

Read Dingles had an approach for Laws kicked back, is he any good? does not seem to be setting things alight at Wednesday, a much much bigger club than Burnley. Burnley have big plans and the money to go with it??? PR smack?
DanLad Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 It's quite clearly Roy Hodgson for the Burnley job...

Good news that laws isn't going so grayson should be top target now, well hopefully. Then £100 into the bank and a drink for nicko The markets still available on skybet. Just because Sheff Wed have said no to Burnley - doesn't mean he's not going yet. But I'm hoping that the story going public will have soured the relationship between Burnley/Sheff Wed a bit. The chief executive said they approached Burnley for Cotteril and were professional about it - something Burnley haven't been. Loved the bit about "Why would he want to move to a smaller club anyway" Fair point Come on Grayson!
nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Should be Vinyl for a true 70's timewarp. Both, but you can play CDs louder. You obviously miss out on the charm of the crackle of needle on vinyl.

Then £100 into the bank and a drink for nicko Think we're getting confused here. Laws to Preston is the story. Burnley is still wide open - Grayson very much in there but there is a new face.

Burnley have big plans and the money to go with it??? PR smack? If Burnley get the guy I know about you will be playing them in local derbies in the Premier League... Brendan Flood is definitely up for putting cash in. He sounds like he might be a major figure in the future. Go on, admit it, it's better when you play them twice a season.
thenodrog Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 You obviously miss out on the charm of the crackle of needle on vinyl. Dont know why but that is a very comforting and soporific sound. I wonder why nobody made a full LP of that?
nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Now I understand the confusion...Burnley sniffed after Laws in the past few days...but Preston want him too. I think North End have the better chance.
thenodrog Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 It's got me seriously concerned too, I feel for the lad I really do. He was playing so well, perhaps we need to ease him back even more slowly. I am pulling for him to make it I really am. Unfortunately I cannot see Reid returning to the level he was when he got injured. I'm no expert on sports injuries but Reid was never a very skilful player and most of his game was based on his more physical attributes of pace, energy, stamina and power. It sounds like that is what he is now struggling with.

I think North End have the better chance. I don't want to "big up" our neigbours but surely burnley have more money and would be a better prospect than pne ? Is there any truth in cotteril going to pne ?

Is there any truth in cotteril going to pne ? It's a hard one to call between Preston and Burnley in terms of size of club. But in this case I think Laws knew he was only a candidate for an interview at Burnley. I think he may be top of the list at Preston... Last time I heard Preston's short list had two names on it - and both were managers in work. I think they are Laws and Simon Davey at Barnsley. I'm not sure about the Cotterill link for all of the talk. I believe Cotterill is being pushed for jobs by a very senior figure in the game...and fancies the Premier League.
LeftWinger Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Does anyone know if you can bet on the next Preston Manager? Can't find odds anywhere. Tried odds checker. Was interested in the prices if nothing else.

modes98 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Now I understand the confusion...Burnley sniffed after Laws in the past few days...but Preston want him too. Laws to Burnley is the story the BBC have and no mention of preston. I'm suprised that teams are so interested in him after the shocking start to the season and almost being sacked. Burnley market has now come back on odds checker with Grayson down to joint 3rd fav 11/2 with Paul Jewell.....? S Davis and M Newell are alot shorter odds at 11/4

He was asked and said no. To be fair to your neighbours they have been checking out a whole lot of people. I think the Laws story is out of date and possibly leaked by him as a 'come on' for someone else. But, then again, I am a suspicious and crusty type. But as of this morning Burnley is wide open. Grayson is a live one, but by no means a cert because of the other developments.

I will happily admit it Nicko; I have been advocating just that for yonks. Unfortunately though, there are a number of people on here that secretly fear this happening and the Dingles giving us a run for our money in the Prem.
