Oakland Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Smith at £6 million and £60,000-a-week, Roque at around £4 million or so and close to £40,000-a-week salary...what do you think is the better bit of business? I've read somewhere that Roque will get £25,000-a-week...
they_think_its_all_rover Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I think Taylor is a lost cause myself - he has actually deteriorated as a player lately. He got ill 18 months ago (or thereabouts) and for me hasnt recovered fully. I'm at uni in Huddersfield and Taylor was on loan for them last season.... all the Hudds town S/T holders kept telling me week after week "He played rubbish at the weekend!" & "He's the worst player I've ever seen at the cluib!"
doctorryan Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 On Benni, I would only be sure he was staying at midnight on August 31. I understand that thinking, but would use being European cup-tied (him being on the pitch on August 16) as the indicator that he was staying. If Benni wants Champions League football, he has to score enough goals this season to get us there. Amen.
Yerotsluap Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Nicko do you know anything about the clause in McCarthys contract mentioned in this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1779
Niko Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Some developments on the McCarthy/Smith fronts. Smith is going to be talking to Rovers tomorrow morning - with the clubs set for talks over a sensational Smith plus cash deal for McCarthy. Rovers would get about 3m plus Smith for the deal. Sources suggesting that Hughes could be keen on the deal. I'll post more when I've got it....
SuperStella Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Oh my god, what is the world coming to? A FAKE Nicko !!!! lol
Niko Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Damn you! Just seeing how many people would panic there!
Rover down South Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Just found this on the Whittaker story: http://www.eatsleepsport.com/news_details....id=1&t_id=5
Mozzer Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 niko you got me then, dont no why, becoz smith and 3million wouldnt get mcarthy i think if we recieve a bid more then 10million id sell..
modes98 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 If that article is right about £5m for mccarthy next summer then cash in for any offer around £10m now. If that's right then whoever put that in deserves to be out the door asap.
LeftWinger Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 If that article is right about £5m for mccarthy next summer then cash in for any offer around £10m now. If that's right then whoever put that in deserves to be out the door asap. McCarthy will be not far off 31 next summer. If we were to get 2 years of great service out of him, and then have doubled our money on the transfer fee - that wouldn't be bad business. If putting that clause in meant the difference between getting him and not getting him - then it was a great move. At least we didn't put a Bellamy style clause in it. To say the person putting the clause in should be out of the door is a ridiculous statement.
b12_simon Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Nice try, Niko with no C. Had me going. Niko (without C) you owe me a new pair of undercrackers!
roversmum Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I don't understand why everyone is so keen to sell our best players. Benni is the second best scorer from last season. Who are you going to replace him with and at what cost? Thank God Sparky is the Manager and not some of you lot
modes98 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 To say the person putting the clause in should be out of the door is a ridiculous statement. So we sign a player who we expect to have an impact for a very low figure of £2.5m. You then insert a release clause after half his contract for £5m, when in all likelyhood he will be worth mroe. Just seems ridiculas and a serious mistake by the people in charge of the deal. I'm sure they could have offered him a different option, such as more money! The bellamy clause was 50/50, whilst you knew he was good his injuries meant you could never be sure and £7m is a decent amount. McCarthy has always been worth more than £5m and i hope it's just wrong information.
Mozzer Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 ill explain why i think we should sell mcarthy at an resonable price... yes maybe every player would love to play champions league, but to come out and say "its not like i owe them my life", "ive repayed them with my goals", i think its disrespectful...i dont think his heart is in it with blackburn, i want people who want to wear the shirt and give their all... at 29, 10million or more is a brilliant price.. imo, i think benni mcarthy can be replaced, imo, its down to bentley and pedersen that mcarthy scores so many goals, and i believe who ever we would bring into replace him, would score goals..our wing players are brilliant, strikers can be replaced especially when you have brilliant wingers, but wingers cant be replaced(especially the ones with have now).. saying that if he stayed great..
LeftWinger Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 McCarthy has always been worth more than £5m and i hope it's just wrong information. It probably is wrong information - but no point worrying all season about it. Lets just hope Benni can score the goals to push us into a league position that he'd be happy with - and then maybe he'd stay afterall.
USRoverME Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 McCarthy has always been worth more than £5m except for when we bought him for half that..... right?
nicko Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Nicko do you know anything about the clause in McCarthys contract mentioned in this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1779 It's a new one to me, but I don't know how relevant it is. If he has that clause and can go for £5 million next summer, so be it. Rovers will have made a profit and can have had two seasons out of him. I don't think it would influence any decision on selling him now. If it was Chelsea or West Ham they would have to pay an absoluate fortune. End of story. He is under contract. However it would surprise me if Rovers had opened talks about a new deal when they seem to be holding all the aces. I remember the 'new contract' story came out before the season ended and Mark Hughes asked 'why?' when the press quizzed him. You just have to accept that Benni is one of these guys who moves about a lot. If he goes you make a giant profit. If he stays he will no doubt get another 15 or so goals. Give me that kind of crisis any day.

The ones that utter murmurs of discontent are mostly just jealous. Keep up the excellent ITK-style info!

Sorry mozzer but that is nonsensical. In Benni, we have a proven goal scorer- anyone else is a risk short of signing Tevez or Drogba. You have got to remember that goals equal points equal places equals prize money. A casual guess of not having Benni and lets imagine having an 8 goals striker (half Benni's haul) and you are looking at the loss of 8 goals cosing us 5 places easily. At £700K a place next season, there is £3.5m down the pan for starters. Then assume the Mr X Benni replacement didn't score the goal against Arsenal in the 5th Round replay and you an add not collecting £1m+ from not having the quarter and semi-final games in the FA Cup. Suddenly grabbing £10m for Benni now is looking like a net £5m. Then you have the calculated risk upside. Benni could help shoot us into the Champs League or UEFA Cup automatic qualification.
rover_groo Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I remember the 'new contract' story came out before the season ended and Mark Hughes asked 'why?' when the press quizzed him. Good man Nicko, nice one about remembering Hughes' comment. I can't recall this but will give you the benefit of the doubt this time, lol. You just have to accept that Benni is one of these guys who moves about a lot. If he goes you make a giant profit. If he stays he will no doubt get another 15 or so goals. Give me that kind of crisis any day. That's one of the most truest and fairest reflections that anyone can give about Benni. Very similar to Bellamy, but won't cause as much hassle. However, Benni is also more than capable of throwing his toys out of the pram and if he wants a move away from Ewood Park and become the 3rd player in recent times to use the club as a so-called stepping stone, then he can. However, it all comes at a price and I think a figure in the region of £15million will turn heads. Kind of reminds me of the day Shearer left with that figure.
nicko Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Shearer's departure was a disaster for so many reasons. It was also in an age when you did not expect that kind of thing to happen. It's easy for me to be philosophical, but I would say that there is no point in losing sleep on the McCarthy issue. Football has changed so much. I wanted to curl up under the bedclothes when Partick Thistle sold Jimmy Bone in 1972. Now, you just shurg your shoulders and move. On the Hughesy answer I know that's true because I was there when he was asked...and he gave out a rare chuckle!
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 In this current financial market why the hell are some of you dreaming up this low 10 million price tag?..... and just who the ###### do you get to replace a player of his goalscoring ability at the current prices? Darren 'two-bob' bent for a cool 16.5 million? Benni MUST stay this season and be a succees HERE at Ewood
