Ronin Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Chelsea agree deal with Ancelotti's advisors. So we could be near a conclusion to this escapade? Plenty time for Rovers to get the right man in if it is.

nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sky Sports website - for what it's worth. It's the same story that was on here this morning - only Hughes's people don't go running to Sky to tell them their side of it. There are TWO bosses still in the frame for that one...
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I still believe Hughes deep down doesn't want that City job. What happens if Chelsea go with Ancelotti and Hughes doesn't want the City job? Williams will have a dilemma on what to do. He should in theory consider sacking him, but then there is the issue of his contract and i'm assuming the money that we would have to pay him would come from the money that was set aside for our transfer budget. The whoever comes in next will have less to spend. What a complete mess this whole situation is.
DanLad Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 So what's Maclaren doing in Salford? The food at the Lowry is great?
philipl Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sky Sports website - for what it's worth. Is this the same link that was posted by den and has not been described as an agreement? If AC get shirty about this which they probably will, Chelsea could find themselves up before FIFA. I suspect Rovers timed their agreement with City so they could shove the terms in front of Chelsea when/if they called.
nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Balls to the earlier embargo... Mark Hughes met Man City officials in London today. He told them he wants 24 hours to consider. The fee was agreed this afternoon too. Hughes is waiting on a call from Chelsea that he hopes will come. He would obviously rather go there. He is staying in London for that reason. Ancelotti is the other name left in the frame. His people realise there is a fight on, so they have gone public to try and stir things up. The final decision STILL rests with Abramovich who can't make his mind up - he is being pushed to take Sparky by most of his staff but there is one final obstacle. If Chelsea can get Sparky to meet Roman fast then that will be the next development. Otherwise Sparky needs to give Man City an answer tomorrow. It's all still up in the air.

That'll probably put him off the Chelsea job... maybe someone should tell Man City Hughes has said no to them... then someone make up a serious sounding story about Luigi De Canio leaving DQPR (and the country...) because of being mugged in the Chelsea area... Hughes then realises Blackburn is the right place for him to stay put. Ahh! the voice of reason!
Guest fernhurstblue Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Man City MUST know that he would prefer to go to Chelski and as they have no manager, hopefully they are lining up BFS-pass us a bung, who me?? That would be the best possible outcome for us imo ..... Hughes gets his move (even if it was a bit underhand), we lose Bentley at the most, but pocket £20 - £25 million and we don't get Mr Trotter to ruin our club with all his hangers on Then again, as the last 30 hours have shown, ANYTHING can happen is this once game of gentlemen.

PAFELL Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 There is a fair bit to report, but because I think someone has been lifting stuff from here and pumping it out to other areas I will save it for later. Sorry to have to do this, but there have been key developments over the last few hours. I can't slit my throat on this professionally. All I would say to those who have been putting bets on is to sit where you are - the news I can pass on about 9 tonight will NOT influence this. In fact, some of the events may make more sense in a few hours. OK? [Well, frankly, it has to be]. Not being a betting man - but what would you say the odds are on Mark Hughes doing a u turn and staying with Rovers if chelsea don't appoint him and Hughes finds the conditions at mad city unacceptable. Try hinting that to somebody as see if somebody on sky etc responds with the same. If somebody has been lifting things and giving it to 'other media parties' from this site they should be ashamed. To them it may be fun, to you it is your bread and butter.
Head Rover Heels Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I blame John Terry the stupid ****!! Definately. So what's public opinion then - If all this falls on it's backside for Sparky, are we content with him u-turning? After all, it's only gone on for a week or so - We (kind of) forgave Benni an entire season of it. Or, is it a different thing when it's the manager, and will the whole thing filter through in a catastrophic way to the dressing room? Undecided myself

If AC get shirty about this which they probably will, Chelsea could find themselves up before FIFA. Even if this happened they would only get a slap wrist. Chelsea are basically untouchable - no fine could ever mean much for them due to being loaded. Bad publicity - means nothing. Only a transfer ban for a season etc could be the only punishment that could have any effect - which would never happen.

nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 If AC get shirty about this which they probably will, Chelsea could find themselves up before FIFA. I don't think FIFA will be getting as upset about a Sky Sports report as all that... But the point remains AC Milan will be much harder to deal with than Rovers at this stage.

Looks like Sparky could end up with serious egg on his face. Not good news for the Rovers. Now he has played his hand we need him out of the door. If he stays sacking him and staff is going to cost 5m at least so we would be at a minimum 10m down on the deal. What an iditiot. Even if he doesn't fancy the Man City job in the end he should do the honourable thing and just go.
USRoverME Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 If this had not happened, Hughes was going to be linked to every big job open, hell he got linked to newcastle... I still can't see why he can't stay if Chelsea goes another direction and he tells sinatra to stuff it.
nicko Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 If you get money in the kitty - this £5 million that someone mentioned - then take it and move on.
Ronin Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 If he does do a U turn, what say more speculation arises when another high profile big club need a new manager. ie like when Newcastle came up etc.

Or, is it a different thing when it's the manager, and will the whole thing filter through in a catastrophic way to the dressing room? Undecided myself He has to go, no questions. I am one of his biggest fans but he is clearly interested in any job in the Premiership with a bit of money behind them. That means there are around ten clubs he would go to if not more. Therefore realistically we will be facing losing him at least within 6 months. His mind will not be on Rovers, and there is not value for him now in building for the long term. His relationship with the players and the board will have been seriously weakened as well. No option for anyone concerned.

To them it may be fun, to you it is your bread and butter. It's all rather dodgy. If Chelsea does not enter the fray, Hughes not only has his prospective employers (city) to keep sweet, but his boys Eddie, Mark II, Glynn and Kevin. If they are to follow him to City and it all goes pear-shaped they won't be happy. I shall cope if they go to Chelsea, but if they go to City it's fairly obvious that the plot to snare Chelsea has failed and I will be devastated. City is much closer to home. Still, tomorrow is another day. Please, JW, pull another rabbit out of the hat, there's a good chap.
Head Rover Heels Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Problem with that is the next time a `big` job comes up Sparky will again be linked with it and we go through all this again.Or maybe (I'm just playing Devil's advocate here) he'll realise how good he's got it here, and decide to give it everything he's got - It could work both ways (and in all honesty, i really have no idea) Someone mentioned earlier in the thread (or it could have been a different one) about what to do with employees that realise the grass isn't greener - It's an unfeasibly difficult decision to make, expecially when it would potentially cost us most of our transfer budget to sever the contract.
LeChuck Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 What an iditiot. Even if he doesn't fancy the Man City job in the end he should do the honourable thing and just go. Don't be daft, you seriously think Hughes would go this far with City if he didn't have intentions of taking the job if he can't get the Chelsea one? Hughes would want to go to City regardless of the Chelsea situation, the sheer amount of transfer money available to him will lure him there...just as it nearly did with Newcastle. It's amazing how quickly our opinions of a man change...one minute he's verging on genius, the next he's an idiot.
den Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 If you get money in the kitty - this £5 million that someone mentioned - then take it and move on. The sooner the better Nicko. This has already gone too far.
EwoodGlory Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Balls to the earlier embargo... I like your style What a couple of days, what will come tomorrow? and then we have the task of ourselves finding a new manager. Who will he want (hopefully it won't be a she), and who will Sparky want It's going be a lively summer.
