Scotty Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 So all of the other candidates have been approached and sounded out because... No idea. To make a killing on Betfair? To throw the media off the scent? To ensure that Russia's preparations for the Euro's aren't disrupted?
Eddie Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 But they could have just kept Grant until after Euro 2008 and then sacked him and put Hiddink in place and they wouldn't have disturbed Russia at all.
nono91291 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 So all of the other candidates have been approached and sounded out because... Is Spalletti a serious candidate or is it another case of throwing a name out there because the majority have no idea what is going on?
modes98 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 No idea. To make a killing on Betfair? To throw the media off the scent? To ensure that Russia's preparations for the Euro's aren't disrupted? Perhaps Roman is laying against them all on betfair, whilst secretly betting on Hiddick at a pound a day. Wouldn't Roman be shot if he nicked the russia manager?
T4E Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Sorry I didn't get the chance to tell you about the Hun bidding for Reynolds at Motherwell yesterday. I meant to but in the heat of the unsensational day that it was I forgot... Funnily enough I was just reading the report on the Beeb. Decent player, could end up being more Broadfoot than Whittaker though. King Carlos needs a long term partner, he could be the man for the job. Any news on the Miller deal? I have a few texts to send once that one gets done......
Billy Castell Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 No. He'll be poisoned with some radioactive material in his tea after itbeing made clear his business interests are to be taken over by the Russian state, and he will be exiled.
Ewood and I Would Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Bit random nicko with what's going on at the moment, but any Newcastle news? I'd have thought they'd take the prize from Chelsea for most bizzarely run club!
AndyC Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Perhaps Roman is laying against them all on betfair, whilst secretly betting on Hiddick at a pound a day. Wouldn't Roman be shot if he nicked the russia manager? he pays for hiddink, so i'm sure he has plenty of goodwill!
Iceman Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 What will be funny,is that if Abromovich decides you know what, screw you Hughes for using City as bait to get the Job at Chelsea…ill take Mancini or Rijkaard instead..Then Frank says, okay so Hughes, used us to get the Chelsea job,mmm lets rather give the job,to somebody else….JW,then says sorry Hughes I don’t want you back, and he heads off into the distance to coach Burnley..wouldnt the fans be up in arms if that last bit should happen lol
rover6 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Not sensational? The current biggest talking point on this thread is Sparky and where he will end up. T4E, you will remember the summer that the biggest talking point on this messageboard was who the mystery trialist was who scored for us in a friendly against a Swiss fishermens' eleven. Remember Rej/Rey Volpato? We know that he's been using Man City as a pawn in his game to prompt Chelsea to act. We've all been waiting to see if it would happen - and it looked as though it might - only for Abramovich to decide he's going to wait, leaving Sparky high and dry with only Frank to turn to. I think your falling for the hyped version of reality there. Hughes appears a man of integrity. He may have wanted to join Chelsea but to use Man City as a pawn, seems far-fetched. ALmost as far-fetched are those that are convinced that Abramovich disagreeing with Peter Kenyon is the stuff of a mixed race man taking a major step to becoming the next president of the USA. Just because Abro has disagreed with Kenyon, are we to assume a spectacular fall-out? Maybe in the tabloid world of melodrama, of course, but in the real world where people vehemently disagree and then get on with things? Interesting - YES, of course. But not sensational. Stick to talking about football buddy - you're pretty good at that. Needless sniping however is not your strong point. Okay. I think I better because a few more ignores and I may be on me lonesome.

mattyboy6000 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Alan Mahon is a Championship class player only don't know where that came from Nicko's take is good in many respects- as a Rovers Fan, I think Hughesy MUST have only been using the City job as bait - he CAN'T have been serious about joining them, they're @#/?. (or could he?)

nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Mark Hughes took a calculated gamble when he asked to speak to Man City, hoping that Chelsea would then make their minds up. You can check that with people close to him if you want. However he also knew that he was as good as shutting the door on Rovers when he did it. He may not be going to his first choice club if he signs for City - although that won't be admitted obviously. You just have to face the fact that Hughes fancies something new and that Rovers didn't put up much of a fight to stop him because they realised that too.
Eddie Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Hughes is a man of integrity? I think if you look hard at the last year you may change your mind about that. He wanted to jump ship for Newcastle. For Chelsea. Is going to for City.
Head Rover Heels Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Can't argue with that. If what we believe has gone on, actually has (And i've no real reason to doubt it) then it doesn't show much integrity at all. Just a whole load of wheeler dealing, and quite a lot of lookatme-ing going on
nicko Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Hughes is a man of integrity? I think if you look hard at the last year you may change your mind about that. He wanted to jump ship for Newcastle. For Chelsea. Is going to for City. Don't start calling him. He did a good job but felt that he couldn't take it much further. If Rovers slip next season - as he obviously feels they might do - then it is as well for him to leave and the club to find someone who is not worn out by their financial restrictions. He may regret it in time, but so it goes.
Billy Castell Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 We'll come roaring back when the TV money dries up and the league becomes as dull as the SPL (if it isn't already). Football is in a bubble that will soon burst if the dre economic forecasts come true.

Hughesy Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Except for the gloss of finishing 7th, let’s be realistic about what actually happened last season. It wasn’t a great season and the manager should take quite alot of the blame. We started off very well but then faded after October for months. Key players were out of form (Pedersen, McCarthy & Nelsen) and but for our great start we wouldn’t of finished in the top 10. We also played several players out of position (Like McCarthy on the left, Derbyshire on the right, you could even say Reid at right back) Look at some of our results last season. We scraped a win against Sunderland home & away, derby away, Bolton away, Newcastle away & Tottenham away. Could only draw with Reading. Could only draw with Fulham Home & away. Failed to beat Birmingham when it would of clinched Europe. We got hammered 4-0 by Villa, 4-1 by Coventry (and possibly our worst performance for 3 or 4 years), Lost to Larissa (Another Trelleborg), Conceded 5 to Wigan, Lost to Arsenal Kids at Home and still cant beat West Ham. So out of the Uefa at the 1st Hurdle, out of the FA Cup at the 1st hurdle and out of the league cup in the quarters to a bunch of kids that we should of beat. The good points of the season – The good start, the fact we ended up qualifying for Europe, Roque signing. Finishing 7th and the good placing money. Main good points are still there without Hughes, we got Roque (HE WONT GO), we got good money for our placing and also several players have progressed into better players.
ihtd Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 We might as well face it, we are a small club, in terms of the Premiership we are one of the smallest clubs in there. Forget about us winning the Premiership in 94/95, we are a small club these days. We have very little money, a smaller stadium than most and cannot fill it. This in the eyes of non Rovers fans, makes us a small club. We punch above our weight every season and i think in a couple of weeks time, we'll look back at the job MH has done, thank him for a job very well done and move on to the next man. Its easy to slag MH off for wanting out of Rovers but to look at it with the Rovers blinkers off, its a good move for him to Man Citeh, he'll get money to spend, he'll be at a club that other people look at as a big club and if he does a good job, could put himself in the frame for an even bigger move in the future. Its a risk he is taking but that is only because of the chairman. Maybe at the same time it is not a risk, with this Garry Cook guy in at City, he obviously wanted MH and maybe he persuaded Thaskin (SP) around March time that he could get MH if he sacked Sven and he could have known Mark was unhappy here. Forgive me if i'm incorrect but MH and Cook are good friends. SSN say now that an announcement is expected this afternoon.
