nicko Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 Nicko What is the situation with Jason Roberts? He seemed to want out at least on two occasions last season. Also Rovers were prepared to sell him. If this happens we will need to replace him. Roberts will be a hard player to move. His asking price is big and so are his wages. If he buckles down he might get a game, if not he will be shunted out - but the clubs keen on him [like Cardiff] can't afford him.

hawkiiz Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Many times but you must take the rough with the smooth. How about you contracting a builder to stick an extension on your house and him bguggering off with it half finished and you not being able to find anybody else able or willing to complete on the original estimate. If anybody breaks a contract a clause should be in place to re-imburse financially the aggrieved party. Breaking agreed contracts for no good reason (unless mutually agreed by both parties) is simply a cop out for weak minded individuals. a contract is an agreement yes. but it is no guarantee. why do you think players change clubs so often? there would be no transfer fees if the contracts where a 100% tie-up. they would just wait untill the contract ended and then find another club. if lets say liverpool want bentley, they say so. why is it so wrong for bentley to say he is open for business? rovers will get money for him, right? there you have your finacial security. if bentley really really wants to go, then let him.
Eddie Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Of course it is a guarantee! What do you think a contract is?
gumboots Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 You have not got a fixed term contract though gumboots. yet another reason why I said football contracts aren't like ordinary work contracts and you can't compare them as some people try to do.

It's wrong for Bentley to say he's open for business in the way he has because he's trying to have the best of both worlds. if he wants out he submits a formal transfer request. if it's not about money and really is about ambition then that's what you do. As barry should have done at villa instead of bleating about O'Neill to the press. It's not the wanting to leave that's annoying people as much as the way that the players seem to think anything that's to their advantage is ok and anything to the club's and therefore the fans is wrong.
Majiball Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Fine going forward?..... Emo?..... Brett Emerton? Good grief! emo can't get a cross past the first man, he cannot shoot and even when he is clear on goal he turns around. He's much better in defense. OK look at it logically, Emo was moved into a more attacking role towards the end of the season, Reid moving to right back, Emo has played all his life in an attacking role, his positional sense, anticipation of situations is poor, he linked up well with Bentley down the Right, but only really againast lesser oposition, who struggled to capatilise on the fact he pushes past his team mate every-time we attack, exposing our right flank consistently. All last year we were linked with a move for a RB, again this year, there must be something in it, Hughes himself said Emo gave us two attacking full backs (no mention of his defensive prowess). He has played most of his career on the right wing, If emo was so solid defensively Hughes would never have moved him, he would have kept him there, he did not, he moved him into a more attacking role where his attacking instincts would be better used. Ooijer also spent time last year at right back, he is a defensively minded player, Emerton is Not. Nicko What is the situation with Jason Roberts? He seemed to want out at least on two occasions last season. Also Rovers were prepared to sell him. If this happens we will need to replace him. Perhaps Derby, Fulham, would all be interested He's not good enough for a team with top 6 ambitions, Darren Bent is someone I think would work well with Roque 31 in 68 at charlton is a good track record, and he has pace, and is willing to work the flanks.
Iceman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 OK, I realise I must be the only person on this MB (nay maybe in the World) that does not know who the **** Spiderman is, and it is driving me crazy!! His name has been mentioned in at least a zillion posts today as having signed for Toon, and not one person has asked who he is, so everybody must know...........except me. Please someone for pity's sake tell me who he is (real name) and who he played for before Toon snapped him up. Thank you. Thanks Fife, you made it easier for me... i too didnt know who the hell spiderman is,and didnt want to look stupid by asking,so just went along like i knew who it was
modes98 Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 yet another reason why I said football contracts aren't like ordinary work contracts and you can't compare them as some people try to do. Fixed term contracts occur to us normal folk as well. I was on a 1 year deal here and unless they got the external contracts again the next year i wouldn't have been kept on. Shame i don't get a signing on fee. A contract is a contract at the end of the day. A legal device that determines your terms and conditions of employment (wage, length of deal, clauses, etc). Football contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on, the EU is allowing them to just get out whenever they please and screw over the clubs who have spent years building them up.
socngill Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Bent with Roque could work. he has lots of pace and a good eye for goal. i think they could complement each other well. However, I have a bit of a soft spot for dear old Benni and would prefer to see that partnership work and if used together in the right formation I think they could. Benni is no midfielder!
Iceman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 dunno if this has been mentioned yet...Nicko any truth in this? http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=761140
hawkiiz Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Of course it is a guarantee! What do you think a contract is? everything but a guarantee! it is a guarantee that you will have your man or something of the same value for a certain length of time. it is NOT a guarantee tha THE EXACT player is going to stay.
modes98 Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Liverpool make our mistake Mascherano off the the Olympics. Same with Messi and Aguero. They will miss games as well, unlike Mr Nelsen.
Eddie Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 everything but a guarantee! it is a guarantee that you will have your man or something of the same value for a certain length of time. it is NOT a guarantee tha THE EXACT player is going to stay. No. It is a guarantee that, unless the two parties agree otherwise (ie a transfer), that the exact player is going to stay with you.
Exiledfan Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 A lot can happen in a short space of time. And has. You still sure about that Nicko? http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...Celtic_striker/
nicko Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 You still sure about that Nicko? http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...Celtic_striker/ Absolutely.
BRFCGrez Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Absolutely. Hasn't Coyley just practically ended his interest in him?
nicko Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 Hasn't Coyley just practically ended his interest in him? Burnley have made an offer and are waiting on an answer from Celtic.
Iceman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 whats Brian Clough doing these days?just curious, havent heard his name mentioned in a long time.
BRFCGrez Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Burnley have made an offer and are waiting on an answer from Celtic. What about the Dutchman?
nicko Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 What about the Dutchman? Trying...along with several others.
Majiball Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 dunno if this has been mentioned yet...Nicko any truth in this? http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=761140 We need a specialist holding player, I hope its an area Ince looks at!
nicko Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 We need a specialist holding player, I hope its an area Ince looks at! Not at this stage. An attacking midfielder is what they want just now...along with a right back. And possibly a right winger, of course.
joey_big_nose Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Bent with Roque could work. he has lots of pace and a good eye for goal. i think they could complement each other well. However, I have a bit of a soft spot for dear old Benni and would prefer to see that partnership work and if used together in the right formation I think they could. Benni is no midfielder! What is this all about? 1) We can't afford his wages. 2) We can't afford his transfer fee. 3) Even if we could there is absolutely no way he would be value for money! I agree if used correctly he could be a very good player, but it just won't happen for us. He could well leave Spurs, but only if someone matches his contract, and that won't be us no matter what.
Manc Rover Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 We need a specialist holding player, I hope its an area Ince looks at! Well I think Vogel looked more than capable in that role towards the end of last season. Classic water carrier! Attacking midfielder is a must. Someone with Reid's engine that can pass and shoot!
Iceman Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 if ince agrees a swap with spurs for bent, with bentley going the other way,we wouldnt have to pay transfer fees.
